I was hesitant to buy this style of tile cutter after reading horrible reviews of similar ones, but for under $10 I figured I'd give it a try. I was also hesitant because I couldn't risk wasting tile --the tile was left over from a renovation years ago (12 inch floor tile) and I couldn't get more. This was a repair and I didn't have much tile left. The instructions say to only score the tile once. I did this and I could just see that the groove was not deep enough for the tile to beak along it. So, II disregarded the instructions and very carefully scored it repeatedly until I could see a significant groove. This did it. The key is to be very careful not to move the tile once you have made the first score, and this is not easy. Do this on a solid table top in good light and be patient. Also, my tile was not porcelain and I wonder if this would work on porcelain tile or stone. If I was doing a job that required more than a few cuts I think I'd get a better cutter, but for the few cuts that I needed it worked fine.

I bought this cutter to do a small 12X18 sq. ft. floor. Following the instructions from the manual exactly. 3 out of 4 tiles broke before I got mad and quit. Buy an electric wet saw and do the job the right way. This QEP cutter is worthless.

I bought this to cut 12" porcelain tiles and it would not snap the tile at full length. I broke several tiles trying. Only the smaller pieces would snap sucessfully (4" or less to cut). I tried all kinds of tricks like wetting the tile and running oil down the cut line, but nothing worked to make it snap a 12" cut without breaking perpendicullarly half way down. For large porcelain tiles I guess you need a wet saw that is specifically made for porcelain. Getting one tonight.
Probably works great for softer materials and/or smaller tiles. I didn't like the rubber guide though, as it sits partially under the tile so the tile won't lay flat. Its also very hard to keep the tile in place while scoring.

really had my doubts about this tile cutter but had no problem with 12 inch tiles making 1 inch scores and broke clean.
