Product Overview

QEP Natural Cork Underlayment is ideal for reducing sound transmission from upper levels to lower level living spaces. Under ceramic tile, on a 6 in. slab with a suspended ceiling in the floor below the acoustical ratings for the 1/2 in. cork are STC 89 and IIC 88. These ratings are outstanding since architects typically require minimum ratings in the 50's. Natural Cork Underlayment can be used under ceramic tile, porcelain tile, stone, marble, engineered hardwood and laminate floors. Natural Cork Underlayment also acts as a crack isolation membrane that resists the transfer of cracks from the subfloor into cracked tiles on the finished floors. Natural Cork Underlayment also reduces thermal transmission, increasing the effectiveness of floor heating systems. Install like a professional by using Roberts 7250 Cork Adhesive.

  • Sound and crack isolation underlayment for tile, laminate and floated wood floors
  • Natural cork from Portugal
  • Comes in 1/2 in. thickness to maximize sound reduction
  • An outstanding sound barrier, cork reduces sound transmission from both the surface of the floor as well as through the floor to living space above or below
  • Natural cork increases the effectiveness of under floor heating systems and acts as a crack isolation membrane that resists the transfer of stress cracks
  • A natural substance, cork helps repel insects, pests, mites and termites
  • Easy to install with Roberts 7250 cork adhesive (sold separately)
  • Naturally hypoallergenic, cork contributes to creating a healthy indoor air quality
  • STC 89 and IIC 88 with 6 in. cement slab and suspended ceiling

Just remember that gravity will not be your friend and you will have to experiment a little to find out how long you have to wait before putting the panel in place and how long you have to hold it place until it has set sufficiently to hold the panel permanently. I wedged a rigid panel with 2 x 4s to hold mine in place until the adhesive cured sufficiently. I would never want to be a Navy Seal carrying a utility poll over my head everywhere I went.
I really liked how well it insulated sound. I also like the look of raw cork so I never covered it or finished it in any other way. Read Less

One review mentioned that these panels are square, when the specs say they are 2'x3'. What are the true dimensions?

2' X 3'. Perhaps the reviewer was trying to say that the product has 90 degree corners. I hope that helps.

I would suggest creating a new email address just for this kind of communication using a service like GMX.COM who provides confidential, free email services. You don't to ever leave your main, personal email address in the open to become the target of spammers. I keep a separate email address just for the purpose of reviews an activity in a public forum.
In the near future I hope to take on a project that will require 42 panels to complete. At that point I would be willing to part with a couple of panels to help you out. Read Less

Answer:
Cork is naturally fire retardant. It's also mildew resistant and insect proof. I don't know what your fire codes are or what you want to use the product for, but you're probably ok.

Customer Reviews

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by 23 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product I needed to raise a new engineered wood floor by half an inch to meet the hallway tile. This product worked great and preforms better than the 1/8 inch foam padding. It leveled out the low spots and feels like solid wood when walked on. It also has higher acoustical rating than foam. The sheets are easier to work with than the rolls. Cork is expensive but gives an overall better feel and sound than padding. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by here is my product review used it to lay down over vinyl tile under new raised subfloor. The room is warmer and quieter and the floor is soft. looking to use it over much of the rest of the house as I pull up the carpet and lay new solid flooring. February 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The Cheapest Solution I purchased this 1/2 in. cork underlayment to go on the wall in my office/music studio. The other Studio quality solutions would have looked much better but ranged in price from $600-$1000 and this entire package of cork ran me $200 plus the cost of the bucket of adhesive to place the cork on the wall. I have a new house in Alabama and here they do not insulate the "Inside walls" just the outside ones. Well let's just say if somebody is snoring in the room next to my studio I can hear it 100%. I placed the cork on the wall and the door that faced the inside of the house so as not to disturb my Wife when playing music or my guitar. I also put some behind the washer/dryer room that is next to my office. All I can say is that "It Works" It doesn't black out 100% of the sound but it does more than wall insulation would ever do. Now if I had this house built I would have put the sound barrier they sell in the music stores online to block out even more sound. I still have my sound diffusers on the wall so every little bit counts. April 24, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by User friendly, foot friendly Cork should be a standard underlayment for all click and lock flooring. It is a real pleasure to walk on it, glues down and cut easily... July 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by pretty good stuff! Was looking for something to put on wall in our game room to replace some wall tile that previous owner had installed as an 18" accent on almost 80' of wall. After removing tile (and unfortunately much of the drywall skin), wanted something inexpensive to cover it. I shellaced the cork, then painted it .spread some of the adhesive on wall first, then used long finish nails on top & bottom to hold it up while it dried. Put corner moulding on top & bottom and it looks great. Pieces came undamaged, are easy to cut with a good razor knife and are actually m ore rigid than I thought? Very Happy with product. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Loved this cork! We installed this cork on our closet walls to help with insulation. The quality of the cork sheets is top notch. Every sheet was in perfect condition and super easy to work with. Our 100 lb Doberman jumped on top of a few of the sheets that were on the bed and even she didn't damage them! They applied very easily to the walls, were a breeze to trim and seem to keep the closets a bit warmer. We even painted them once they were installed and you would never know it's a cork wall now. Excellent product. Used a few finishing nails to help secure them but probably wasn't necessary. February 12, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by a liitle pricey, but I ordered the cork panels online for a wall project in my son's room. the delivery came to my front door and the box didn't look all that promising but every panel was intact, crisp clean, straight edges. It installed nicely, cut easily and looks great! I have more than enough to do the side of my pantry cabinet in the kitchen with still more left over. Maybe I'll make framed cork boards as gifts for family and friends. September 23, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great value, functional, and decorative I was looking for material to install a cork wall for pinning up notes and artwork. Many cork suppliers I found were too expensive for too thin of material. But this stock that Home Depot carries is perfect and was the best value I could find. Installation was fairly easy. I used a combination of strong, removable adhesive strips and some nails for added support. I had to shave the edges of some of the boards, but that was due to irregularities with our wall. We ended up laying out the panels to span an entire wall at a height of four feet. Although it serves a primary functional purpose, it's added a nice warmth to the place. I'm thinking of painting a stencil over it or even doing a mural piece. It'll be interesting to see how the cork holds up overtime. May 17, 2013
