Answer:
Set the tape with the thinset being used for the tiles, with the smooth edge of a trowel, prior to tiling. (The backer board is to be set in thinset mortar as well) I prefer the 'fortified' thinset for floor applications. It has the strength and some flexibility.

Answer:
Geoloop-
Please contact your local Home Depot to define what job you are using the backerboard seam tape for. Depending on the job, will determine what thinset to use. The seam tape does not define which to use, rather the job does.
Hope this helps. Should you have any additional questions please feel free to contact us. Thank you for choosing Roberts!

For a tub surround being retiled with new backerboard installed, does it require a "hydro barrier" applied to the tape and the cement board screws?

Thanks!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by fair It did not stick well and made instalation bothersome March 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked as expected. Great self stick. If you followed previous reviewers tip to wipe clean the seams with wet cloth or sponge and let it dry then this product has absolutely no problem self sticking to hardie backerboard. It doesn't say that on the product packaging to make sure seams are wiped clean prior to applying it, but you need to and this will work great. February 27, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sticks fine.... For HArdiBacker , you need to wash the seams with water to get the dust off. Let dry and it will stick great. Not sure about Durock but I would assume the same. January 13, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Seams it can do better. tape does ok, but lacks enough stickiness to make it the go to tape. January 20, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not self-adhesive The product description says it is self-adhesive, but it doesn't to HardieBacker board. Not sure how to use this product. September 28, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does what it's suppose to I just used this on kitchen, dining, and bathroom floors; over hardibacker board. This was my third tile job in 5 years and I've never had any issues. It is self adhesive, i'm not sure why so many people say it didn't stick...maybe they didn't clean the subfloor before laying it down. April 29, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by terrible I've never written a review about anything until now. It doesn't stick. I do this stuff for a living and have used many kinds of tape, which all work fine. This stuff won't even stick to horizontal surfaces. JUNK! January 31, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to Use This is easy to use. Strong! Cut with knife, etc. slightly adhesive. Use care when going over it. August 13, 2013
