Customer Questions & Answers

Would I need to use additional adhesive on this cork if putting down peel n stick vinyl planks?

Asked by: Anonymous
Never thought or heard of this type application. Would suggest you contact your vinyl plank supplier for applicability and use. Not sure the cork would be secure enough for this type application. Have seen a thicker cork that may be more rugged.

Can I use this product adhered to a sliding closet door (instead of a mirror on the door) for my daughter to display her art work?

Asked by: Cassie
Cassie, knowing full well this is cork flooring underlayment, I bought a roll to line my toolbox drawers and what ever else I can think of. It works very well for my application. The cork pieces are a little larger than what you would see on a small framed cork note board but will hold pins quite well, it is cork after all. The roll is enough to do quite a lot of covering but the cost per square foot was much lower than small "corkboard" sheets sold elsewhere. There is enough to cover a small wall and I would suggest glueing to a sheet of hardboard, the thin dark brown sheeting that is tempered. This would allow you to remove with little damage later on. Use the right glue for applying the cork, forget the name, but it is that yellow "snotty" roll on adheasive I think from 3M. Make some for friend and family, because ther is a lot of cork for the $! Hope this helped.

what is the difference in sound transmission between the 1/2" and 1/4"?

I want to move a grand piano into a condo/apartment and want to install a cork underlayment under the new engineered hardwood. what is the difference in sound absorption between the two thicknesses of cork?
Asked by: lovemypiano
+/- 30% more depending on the sub-floor & flooring you are going to lay on top... Cork is a great sound reducer... The thicker cork will give you a softer feel (barely noticeable though)

Can I glue down solid 3/4" oak floors on it?

Asked by: chris
Thank you Chris for your inquiry. Yes, our 1/4" Cork underlayment can be used with 3/4" oak floors as long as the flooring manufacturer specifies that this type of underlayment can be used with their product. Always check with the flooring manufacturer. It is recommended that the finished flooring be installed at least 24 hours after the application of the Cork Underlayment product. If you have any further questions please call our Customer Service (866) 435-8665. Thank you for your interest in our product.

what is the sound rating for this product?

I'm using over 3/4" plywood and under new 3/4"hardwood. My project is in a condo building and requires a min. rating of 55 for sound transmission.
Asked by: Jimm
We don't have any STC rating for this product when installed over plywood. Below link is for product's PDS including STC and IIC rating for industry standard testing over 6" cement slab with and without suspended ceiling. http://www.qep.com/files/support/PDS_72000_1_1.pdf Thank you.

This Material had a few chipped edges when it came in, but was otherwise in good shape. Has a nice feel to it, but make sure you let it acclimate for a few days before installing the flooring if you are going to use it as an underlayment like I did. Depending on what kind of (RH) humidity your house has the cork can grow or shrink substantially. Shrinking is not really an issue, but growing can make the edges of your floor buckle if its a floating floor. Its ok to walk on the cork (but no furniture) while you wait for it to acclimate and even feels kinda nice. This cork does have an insulating factor as well, we noticed a 2-3 degree rise in temps on the main floor (over an unfinished basement) when we put it down. Part of that was probably from covering any air gaps.

After mixed recommendations for the correct adhesive to use on "walls" ( this company had already had a failure with different installer), we used cove base adhesive troweled onto the walls. Worked beautifully. Painted later.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good stuff, easy to work with Very easy to work with and to trim to your needs (especially when a room/wall is not exactly square. A previous post has a problem with curling, since this comes in a roll. But if you follow the directions and place the curled side down, you should not have a problem.
