radiant flooring & paper bag flooring

Can radiant flooring be used with cork underlayment rolls? If so, is it used under or over the cork underlayment? Is there a DIY video on YouTube? Would also like to do Paper Bag flooring is that possible? I

It's unfortunate to see that the 'QEPSupport' answered not once, but twice, that the radiant heating should go *under* the underlayment. Incorrect. That runs counter to the whole idea. Also, check out the product pics; there's a cutaway example showing the proper location of radiant heating.

Can this product be used under self adhesive vinyl tile (like item # 202191236) ?

Asked by: gyl
Thank you for your Roberts inquiry. Unfortunately this cork underlayment is not designed for self adhesive vinyl tile. We do not have a product for this type of installation. We would recommend that you contact your local Home Depot store or Home Depot.com Customer Service and see whether they can recommend another product. Thank you for your interest in our products.

The cork had an overwhelming moldy smell that persisted for over three months of airing. I finally had to rip it out. Now, 6 months later, the plywood subfloor that was underneath still has an odor. HomeDepot stood behind the sale and obtained a refund for the product.

Product is excellent - dense and solidly packed when compared to 2 X3 sheets that were a much darker material with lots of open holes and spaces which was thinner and lighter in weight so it was much softer and might absorb more sound but the rolled product felt solid in supporting a floating flooring so I felt like there would be less potential for joint separation if the flooring joints above were heavily loaded in one spot. Buying it online turned into a disaster, it took two weeks to arrive plus 2 out of 5 rolls were lost in shipment plus the store has no way to replace the product because the online sales are a totally separate business from the retail store locations.

I would not recommend for a floating floor of any kind. I chose 1/4" cork to add an extra layer of stability and sound dampening to the subfloor, given that I was installing in a high traffic 2nd floor area . If used in a glue down application it may have accomplished that. I installed Solid Click Bamboo and the result is somewhat spongy and creaky as you step on some of the joints. I have the exact same floor installed in 2 other bedrooms on the 2nd floor using traditional 1/8" underlayment and neither have this issue. It would be too much work to remove and reinstall at this point so I am hoping it "settles in" over time.

It was easy to carry the roll upstairs and lay the product on top of the vapor barrier. Because of the curved shape of the roll , I opted to place the concave shape toward the floor substrate for better stability. The material had minor breakages on the outside edges, mostly due to transportation. I did not found this to be an issue, especially because the hardwood plank used were 5 " wide. After installation I noticed the sound of the footstep was nicely muffled for a listener on the first floor. Overall very satisfied

This Material had a few chipped edges when it came in, but was otherwise in good shape. Has a nice feel to it, but make sure you let it acclimate for a few days before installing the flooring if you are going to use it as an underlayment like I did. Depending on what kind of (RH) humidity your house has the cork can grow or shrink substantially. Shrinking is not really an issue, but growing can make the edges of your floor buckle if its a floating floor. Its ok to walk on the cork (but no furniture) while you wait for it to acclimate and even feels kinda nice. This cork does have an insulating factor as well, we noticed a 2-3 degree rise in temps on the main floor (over an unfinished basement) when we put it down. Part of that was probably from covering any air gaps.

It's very easy to work with and cuts easily with a box cutter. I'm a weekend warrior.. and was able to install 400 sqft alone. It feels great. Sounds great. This is the best value I found.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super! I changed the second floor from carpet to hardwood. I didn't want so much noise on the first floor coming from walking on the second floor. It is amazing. You hear very little. I'm super satisfied with this cork.
