Bought this fan to relace and 30 yr old unit. I knew from the spec sheet and description I'd have to reframe and rerock part of the ceiling because old unit was longer and narrower. There are other ways to install fan. All went well and I used the old 3 switch wall control to operate fan, light and night light (bottom switch was for heat so I just relabled it for night light). Used an LED lamp for night light. Also, don't forget to buy a 6 in. duct for exhaust outlet. The fan comes with 2 bulbs for main light that are very bight. We decided to use just one for now. This unit works well. I intend to buy another one for 2nd bath.

This fan worked great for three weeks, then it just stopped working. The light still worked, but the fan wasn't running and no ventilation was taking place. If you are like me, once you finish the "new vent" project, you move on to the next project. It is very irritating when you have to revisit a project because of a lousy product that you paid a premium for because of its supposed quality. I see others have had better luck than I, but for this price it shouldn't be a gamble. Not to mention, my shower condesation has nowhere to go until this issue gets resolved.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jim21 A quiet fan with great features
I purchased and installed this fan about 6 months ago. The quality of the unit is excellent. The fan is quiet enough for me. The light and night light allowed me to upgrade my prior fan/light combo with night light capibility. The look of the face plate gives a very updated look. It was straighforward to install with the wire color coding matching the instructions in the booklet.

I would like to say that this is a great product but I can't. This not because it was damaged or faulty. Rather,
I can't turn it on because it needs a special wall switch to make it function. It didn't tell me on the box or on line that you need to buy this wall switch. As you are reading the instructions going step by step and you get to the very end and it says Must be purchased separately. Ugh! All done and back to the store to by this special wall switch to turn it on. Why didn't they put this bit of info on line or on the box? More wasted time.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MrTinker The Quiet is worth the extra.
I chose this unit primarily for the quiet feature. We have a small windowless bathroom (60 sq ft) with a high sloped ceiling, so it tends to echo. This fan is very quiet. The two bulb ceiling light is very bright. I installed an LED night light bulb (2W Equivalent Soft White (2700K) C7 Night Light LED Light Bulb from HD) and it provides very good night illumination. Nutone recommends the use of 6 inch ductwork to maintain the lowest noise level operation. The unit is furnished with a 4 inch reducer should one desire to use 4 inch ducting. The unit also includes mounting rails that allow positioning the housing anywhere between to joists if needed.
Access from above made the installation somewhat easier. I was replacing an old style Nutone unit, which was noisy and suffering from water damage due to the installer/builder using white vinyl dryer duct (uninsulated) to go from the unit to the roof cap 10 feet above. It was necessary to increase the size of the opening in the ceiling for the larger housing and run another electrical wire for the night light function. To reduce potential vibration I used DAP Alex caulk to bond the flange of the housing to the back of the ceiling. I chose to go with the 6 inch and purchased the heaviest insulated flexible ducting available at HD for this and ran the ducting to an outside wall rather than the roof.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Russ This product is super quiet.
Product was easy to install. It is super quiet and looks great in the shower. The price was reduced which was a major plus. The fan was shipped immediately and I received within 3-4 days after the order was submitted. Customer service reacted very quickly.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RichS Great Fan, silent and efficient
Great fan. 80 cfm is too small per the specs, so we just leave the fan on longer. The mirror remains fog free upon exiting the shower. We turn the nightlight on with the fan, to remind us the fan is running; very quiet.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by OregonBob My primary criterion for a bath fan is noise. This unit is “acceptable”. There is certainly enough noise so you know that it is working. There is also an annoying buzz from the florescent light bulbs. I can also hear a “fluttering” sound, probably from the back draft flap. The unit is certainly not “ultra silent”, but it is better than the 50-year-old unit that it replaced.
