No. It's broom handle is mostly powder-coated metal, fitted into a plastic tube fixed into the brush.

The handle is metal and the broom is well manufactured.

I researched brooms for two weeks before buying this one. I thought because of the metal handle, steel wire in the body, and extra stitching of the corn straw, that this broom would last three decades like my last broom. Boy, was I wrong. To understand the engineering problems of the broom, you need to understand it's construction. The powder-coated metal broom handle is placed inside of a thin (2 mm) tube of SILVER-COLORED PLASTIC and attached into another thin plastic tube on the brush. The picture above makes it look like a regular broom with wire wrapping around the top of the brush. It's NOT. There is NO wire, just plastic. My tale: I put the broom up against the wall, but it slowly fell over onto the floor. POP! The broom cracked between the brush and handle. Because it's a hollow plastic, it's impossible to get the pieces to stick together. I've owned it a whole 5 months, the old receipt has faded, and it too late to get my money back. So, now I have to try to find a big enough dowel to cut down, jam into the two hollow pieces, epoxy it, and try to fix this mess. To say it didn't meet my expectations is an understatement. If you MUST buy this broom, don't ever drop it. It's a pity they didn't use the wire from the broom's body to attach it to the handle.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what was expected I love the study feel to this broom. The head is made of corn strands, carefully secured with 4 rows of stitching backed by a metal ring for additional support. The handle is tall and thick which provides for a really nice smooth grip. Unfortunately, the screw tip is plastic and not metal. The tip has broken on my broom more than once. Each time I have to exchange it out for a new broom. I like this broom. I just wish there was a better, more sturdy tip built into it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Impressed This is not your Dad's corn broom. The steel handle has a plastic tip that is raggedy. It may have metal wound around the handle to secure the broom but it has a plastic screw and some sort of grey plastic glued on to either finish it or secure it. The handle was made in Italy, the broom head was made in Mexico and the broom was assembled in US. Maybe less shipping parts in from all over which costs freight, and more quality control would help My Home Depot had only two corn brooms and I bought the more expensive. Totally disappointed and will return. Wish Home Depot would carry one of the better brooms shown on the web page. Went to a hardware store and got the classic heavy duty corn broom with a wooden handle and good quality control.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Clean Sweep The first thing you notice is the hefty handle...easy to get a grip skinny little stick. the bristles are on the coarse side...a benefit for larger, heavier debris as it has more "spring" to keep the pile of dirt moving. It appears to be well made.. four rows of stitching in addition to a steel retainer, located above the stitching. The wire wrapping around the upper part of the bristles looks like it will remain secure for a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all purpose broom This broom is sooo much sturdier than the nylon bristle stuff found in stores.
