I need to fill a basement crack which is little more than 1/4 inch deep..more like 1/2 - 1 inch deep. Can you suggest what sand should be used before applying Quikrete Concrete seal?
Asked by: bostonguy
I suggest sand sold for play area's. It is a fairly consistent grain size and is very fine. I use a backer rod when possible as it is easier and faster to place in a crack, if the crack is about 1/2 inch or larger.

When using Q.C. sealer on a crack less than "1/2" do you have to chizzle them out to that width for long-term success

Concrete pool deck has lots of little 1cm wide cracks running through it I used the sealer without chizzling what can I expect from that
Asked by: Hezmutsy
No, it works well on cracks that are .25", difficult to use on cracks less than .125" due to product application via gravity feed bottle opening.

The product did not come with a seal under the nozzle screw cap but the nozzle cap closed tightly with a click. Repaired two foot crack in concrete furnace room floor 1/4" to 1/2" wide, 1.5" deep. Cut the nozzle diagonally so it fit most of the crack widths. Placed material in warm water for twenty minutes before each use and shook well. Poured easily with no clogging. Applied in 1-4 layers depending on width of crack. Each application either dried to concrete hardness or at least to a putty consistency by one day and all dried completely by 3 days. Rinsed the nozzle thoroughly in warm water and reamed out with a bent paper clip after each use. There was no change in the product consistency between initial opening and after 4 applications over a couple of weeks. Was not exactly self leveling and was a somewhat different color from the floor but this was not a concern.

Used a grinder to open the seam wide enough to bury the cable. After, I poured Quickrete's Crack Seal over the cable, partially filling the seam. Did a fabulous job in covering the cable. And, no one notices that the area was disturbed. Its color just blends in.. If you exercise some care while pouring, it is self-leveling.

Product was applied in Fall by professional brick mason, but over the winter it developed multiple cracks which allowed water to one again seep into my basement. Very disappointed!

This crack sealer did a good job sealing the seam between the driveway and wall of the house. You need to put a backer material in all but the tiniest cracks or the sealer will seep down to however deep the cavity is. The sealer is easy to squeeze out of the tip- even if cut narrowly. I like this product because it is cheaper and in a slightly larger quantity than other adhesives/ sealers in the 29 Oz. caulk tubes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This is the second time of my using this product.... This is the second time of my using this product. Last time I rated it as 5 star. Last time I had no issue and it did the job as expected. However, this time the product worked inconsistently. It would not come out from the nozzle even I cut it to the biggest diameter. I tried to squeeze real hard still could not get it out. Removing the cap I realized that the sealer became partial-solidified. I cut the bottle and tried to push it to the creak on my drive way, but the surface was rough and would not smooth out like last time. I believe that the product turned bad and no longer be usable. I sent feed back to Home Depot and get response "your feed back was received" and that all. I hope the quality could be ensured and if a product turned bad and did not do the job as described, it should be returned or replaced.

Even after shaking the bottle vigorously, the product was not even close to homogenous -- it was runny, then too thick to squeeze out through the nozzle, then runny again, then normal consistency -- so the viscosity was all over the place. Admittedly, I stored the bottle in an unheated garage through the winter -- so that may have something to do with the problems I had. In general, I would have to say that the product looks good once in place.
