Can I use this on my front porch, and paint it when complete?

Asked by: homedepotjunkie
That,s exactly what I did and it turned out very nice. On the porch it may get slippery in the rain and snow so be careful.

would this work on a concrete pea gravel surface to make it smoother

Asked by: dundee
No - if a concrete surface is rough due to protruding pea gravel, QUIKRETE® Concrete Resurfacer is not an appropriate product choice to smooth it – it is designed to provide a new surface over worn or scaling concrete. QUIKRETE® Sand Topping Mix No. 1103 blended with QUIKRETE® Concrete Acrylic Fortifier No. 8610 replacing a portion of the water content, for an application <1 inch thick, would be appropriate. If a thicker topping between 1 – 2 inches thick is desired, Sand Topping Mix may be applied after a painted on coat of QUIKRETE® Concrete Bonding Adhesive.

I can see where others become frustrated with this product but if you mix with water per instructions (perhaps a little more water) you can spread a little bit at a time until you get the surface you want. Tip: Having done a project myself, I can tell you it will go a little easier if you have a helper. Tip: Keep a MIST over your new surface as you spread to keep it malleable. Tip: If you dont pour the entire bucket out at once, add a little water to the bucket from time to time and run your paddle bit through it again to keep it from hardening in the bucket. Tip: once you spread this stuff out and you get ready to broom (concrete broom works best), spray the broom bristles with a hose and then shake it to leave just a little bit of water in the bristles. What this will do is make a very nice broom finish and the little bit of water will help soften and knock down any "boogers" that result from the resurfacer setting a little faster that desired. Tip: Just like any other concrete product, the colder the weather, the better. If you work during summer months, its best to do this as early in the morning as possible or late evening to avoid direct sun light. Its all about timing. This makes an excellent product if you do it right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cost effective option Resurfaced a two car garage. Used one box mixed thickly to patch major flaws, then six boxes to resurface. Used concrete binder (glue) about 50-50 with water which I think helps. Looks great when it's done. Pretty darn smooth using a squeegie to apply. One major tip I highly recommend is to thin morethan suggested. The instructions suggest adding water sparingly. I suggest adding a quart or more extra and spray extra water whileapplying. When it is thin it spreads nicely but it will start to dry quickly and binds up making it very difficult to spread effectively. You won't get a perfectly smooth surface but keeping it thin while working helps. My garage was a mess and this did a great job. I coated afterward with rustoelum, not sure how tough it would be to traffic on its own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Money saver I've read bad reviews of this product and the only thing certain is those bad reviews do not know how to install it correctly. I've been using this product for years. I also give a 2 year warranty for installation against cracking and chipping. I have customers from 6 years ago who to this day still have my repair holding. If you follow this process you will succeed. Acid wash then let dry, concrete bonding adhesive and then immediately use Quikrete Resurfacer, broom finish, brick rub after 24-48 hours. Perfect job every time.

For the past 5 years, tried to find someone to fix the front cement area and had no luck. Finally went this way as a last resort. Followed directions by dumping 40# bag into a 5 gallon bucket. Mixed as directed and added water due to it was coming out in clumps. Had to add quite a bit more water than directed to get it to be somewhat movable. Dried very quickly once poured. Remained a solid in bucket and had to keep adding water and mixing. Never did come out of bucket as it was supposed to. The second batch, only did a couple pounds at a time in bucket, with water added as needed. Mixed as directed. Went to pour out of bucket, colored water came out, and cement stayed in bottom of bucket. Had to use a putty knife to get out and spread. It didn't matter how long it was mixed, sat, and remixed, every time it was poured, water came out and cement stayed in the bottom of of the bucket. Very dissatisfied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great and it's not hard to do Decided to resurface my folks 35 year old cracked and pitted patio. First I repaired the cracks etc with the resurfacer, as per directions waited till they were dry then poured on the resurfacer first coat using a floor squeegee to spread it. The stuff dried a bit fast because of the weather but just sprinkled some extra water on it so it would continue to spread easily and evenly. Waited a day then put 2nd coat on. I'm not a youngster, I'm a Grandma and if I can do it anyone can.

Prepped flooring, followed instructions allowed recommended time to complete. After dry and days later hosed patio, product flaked right off in many areas and became "sandy" again. When product gets wet and you walk over it it will be on bottom of shoes. Waste of money.
