I have a large void area (12 cft) under a concrete stoop that is structurally supported by cinder blocks in line every several feet with the voids between them.. I would like to fill the voids as it appears it has been there for some time to avoid rodents and or erosion to weaken the structure blocks. I was wondering if I compact this gravel between the blocks and grade the soil away from the stoop, this would prvent any issues down the road. If not, any suggestions. The dimensions of the stoop are 128" x50" and the void is about 6" high. Any help appreciated if I am taking the right approach.

Answer:
Compacted QUIKRETE® All Purpose Gravel may be used to fill the void and it may help to prevent rodent passage through the empty space. In general, sloping soil away from buildings is advised, and you may also check to see that gutters are diverted away from the house. The gravel will not be a permanent solution, as it can be moved slightly in a heavy rain. If you are concerned about the structural Read More

A 50 lb bag of QUIKRETE® All Purpose Gravel contains approximately 0.5 cubic foot of gravel. A 128 inch (10.67 foot) by 50 inch (4.17 foot) by 6 inch (0.5 foot) void will require 22.2 cubic feet of gravel, or 45 bags (of 50 lb each) of QUIKRETE® All Purpose Gravel. Hi Jim in Mundelein, Il.
Thank you for your great question.
I think your idea is sound, but if you have access to a full sized pickup truck, you may want to consider getting the 1/3 cubic yard bags of the aggregate gravel instead of buying by the bag.
Each 50 lb. bag of the Quikrete All-Purpose Gravel is ½ cu. ft. The 1/3 cu. yd. bag of gravel has 9 cu. ft. or 18 bags of the Quikrete 50 lb. Read More

To complete your project, you will need to purchase 24 bags of the Quikrete Gravel. If you get one large 1/3 cu. yd. bag and 6 of the smaller ½ cu. ft. bags, you will be able to reduce the cost of your project.

Answer:
QUIKRETE® All Purpose Gravel can be used as the drainage base at the bottom of a fence post hole. It is not recommended to use alone for setting posts for a fence. QUIKRETE® Concrete Mix (No. 1101), QUIKRETE® 5000 Concrete Mix (No. 1007), or QUIKRETE® Fast Setting Concrete Mix (No. 1004-50) would be more suitable for setting posts for a privacy fence. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Used For Split Rail Install I had to fix a split rail and post that was destroyed due to the storm. I used these to fill about 2 inches in the post so water would drain and then back filled with soil. If you need all purpose gravel, this is it. August 26, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by All purpose I used this product to fill in the base of a few post holes I cemented in over the weekend. The smaller stones made leveling the posts a breeze. I really appreciate the manageable 50 lb bags. I own a minivan so getting a truckload of gravel was not an option. I still managed to get the project done thanks to Quikrete gravel. I am happy Home Depot had this in stock and will gladly use it again. April 8, 2013
