Answer:
Hi DTMD, I would not use this sand for a vegetable garden. This sand is a general purpose building sand and may contain crystalline silica, which you don't want around your vegetables.
You can use play sand, its is clean and safe around kids. Here is a link below.

A 50 lb bag of QUIKRETE® All-Purpose Sand contains ½ cubic foot of sand. A 10 foot by 12 foot area at 2 inches (0.167 feet) thick will require 20 cubic feet of concrete, or 40 bags (of 80 lb each) of QUIKRETE® All-Purpose Sand.Yields will vary based upon waste, uneven subgrade, compaction, etc.

Answer:
Hi Boston11.
Thank you for your question.
To achieve your desired depth of 2 inches of sand, you will need at least 41 bags of 50lb. sand. This is assuming that the area you are covering is an even two inches across the board. If it is not, you will need more than 41 bags of 50lb. sand.
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not sand This product had no sand in it. It was dusty dirt mixed with small gravel. After adding water it turned into mud with small gravel. April 11, 2016

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works to start my Mittleider garden I picked the best ten bage off of the skid that was at sholder height. no one around for help at the matteson store at 0900. I hand loaded them one at a time onto a tarp inside my car. when I drove the 4 miles and unloaded them 4 had leaked out of the ends all over my tarp. I never handled the ends that leaked. I handled a lot of heavy machines and daily lifted 100 pound plus items during my last job for 24 years the bags are only paper. as I will need to buy at least 20 more bags, I will need to buy a roll of duct tape to secure the bag seams. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by loved this product I used this sand under the bottom of an in ground pool for leveling and softness. It worked great. I found only 2 stones in 30 bags of sand. It was close to the quality of playground sand. My pool is level and the pool bottom is soft but compact. I'm planning on getting more for a paver project. September 20, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Sand for Patio pavers The first sand I purchased was in the garden department and contained many small to large stones. This Quik-Crete sand was course and uniform which was perfect for my patio project. I love this product. September 30, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Sand Sand is of descent coarseness. It's not like beach sand or pure sand but as a soil addition or general purpose use it does fine. July 2, 2014
