Well as good as the device sounds on paper, in practice it is not. I wonder it they did enough beta testing before launching this product. The setup is fairly simple if you are used to mobile apps and basic gadgets. The device is magnetic so you can stick it to the suitable surfaces without screws. It has four sensors: temperature, humidity, motion and light. However, all of them are vague at best. The temperature and humidity are nowhere close to the values on my room thermometer/humidity sensor. The motion sensor works sometime and sometimes it does not and so does the light sensor. I would have been happy if at least one of them worked perfectly as claimed by the manufacturer, but this thing is totally useless. I would not recommend this.

This thing is simply terrible! It doesn't do anything consistently other than not operate correctly. The alerts are haphazard at best and they seem to stop working completely once the thing goes to "sleep"... if that's what its actually doing since the documentation is so lacking one cannot accurately discern what its doing or not doing. Save your money and have a couple of drinks instead.

I am really excited about the partnership between Quirky and GE and the Spotter is one such product to come out of this union. The Spotter is a swiss army knife environmental monitoring device. It connects to your WiFi network and setup is quick and easy using the Wink app for your smartphone. Once connected you have the ability to setup a multitude of monitoring triggers for Temperature, Light, Motion and Sound when connected to AC. Each trigger can be setup to send you a push notification or email. However, when running on the two AA batteries only Motion and Light can be monitored.
I though this would be a easy and affordable way to monitor my front door and receive a push notification whenever the Spotter detected it opening (motion sensor). Once configured and two fresh AA batteries installed it easily stuck to my front door with the double magnets in the back casing. Where it failed to deliver was actually sending me notifications of detecting motion. It was really hit or miss and not reliable. I am not sure why, but the battery mode doesn't provide accurate monitoring.
I then set this up to run as a temperature monitor near my electronics cabinet. If it detects the temperature over 75 degrees I have it setup to send me a notifications. Because it is running on AC now I don't worry about replacing the batteries.
Maybe in the next iteration of this product they will work out the performance issues. I am still a fan though!

Really cool Item, easy to setup. Simply install the App and sync it to the device and you can setup different notifications. I installed on the back of a door to use to notify me if the door opens while out of town. Great item to give as a gift during Holiday season.

Bought this to monitor basement temperature and humidity. Temperature is almost accurate. Humidity is off by 20%. It updates information to the app whenever it feels like it- sometimes days between updates. When it hit a notification trigger (humidity level) it would send me four or five notifications at once. No control over the formatting of the notifications. No means of refreshing information in the App. The App is poorly formatted with font in such a tiny size and light color that it's near impossible to read. Noted a number of readings that made no sense as it reported lights and loud noises all through the night in a dark quiet basement. Readings have no date stamp, so you don't know if any particular reading is from 1 hour ago three days ago. Worthless as a monitoring sensor.
