Customer Questions & Answers

Interior?

I know it says exterior, but can it be used in interior settings? If so, does the floor need to be sanded first? Thanks!
Asked by: EFW
Ready Seal is an exterior stain. However it has a very low odor and with lots of ventilation it may just work. I would stain a piece of wood bring it in and see how it goes. I would NOT recommend staining in an Occupied home. The floor surface has to be free of any previously applied sealers.

How long do I need to wait to apply stain after pressure washing my deck? Hours? Days? Weeks?

Asked by: Palmyrita
Generally, two to three days. If it's hot and the deck is in direct sun, I'm sure you could get away with 24 hrs.

Is this a good product for use on pressure treated wood?
Asked by: tk
Yes! Give the wood at least 3 weeks to dry first. Two coats is what I recommend for treated wood. Ready Seal is thinner than some stains and will penetrate the wood better but I have found that 2 coats a few min apart gave the best results.

Why I can't get the online price at my local HD?

This product is available at my local HD but they won't give me the online price or online with not let me pick-up at local store. This item is not an online exclusive in my area.
Asked by: DIYer
That is not a sufficient answer Home Depot. You can match competitors prices but not your own? Also, you have a customer in store willing to buy the product but will not honor YOUR online price is insane. I went the other day and tried to buy 10 gallons but they would not honor the price. I was told I would have to buy it online and have it shipped to my house. Aren't you losing more money for the cost of shipping?

This stain is great . Just applied 17gal (more than suggested) using a pump sprayer and a brush to apply. 2000sqft of Fir log siding was the target. We unloaded siding and stacked about 5 wide side by side .Applied with the sprayer and brushed out. I did this to speed the process of just dipping and brushing. Since you can pile Ready Stain on and spread it out without darker and lighter spots ,that's how I did it. No matter how I applied the stain it all came out looking the same! Yes you should get this stain.Hint: higher pressures on pump sprayer give better results.

I used a roller to apply the stain and was happy to find no streaks whatsoever. The pigments in the stain are amazingly strong, thus it went on smoothly and gave me perfect results with 1 coat. The dark walnut is a very rich color and made my cedar deck look beautiful and expensive. I need however to comment on the idiotic white seal that comes on top of the can. It is probably great at keeping the lid on, but it is an absolute nightmare to take off if you do not have adequate snippers. It took me a good 10 mins trying to get it off and I ended up piercing the lid by mistake...

I applied this to my new deck and fence 3 years ago and it WORKS JUST LIKE THEY ADVERTISE. No brush overlap. Can be applied in a wide temperature range. Looks beautiful ALL the time. Just follow the application frequency as recommended and your exterior wood will be protected and beautiful just like mine is. My neighbors have noticed that my fence and deck look WAAAAY better than theirs does. I never recommend products online except for this one. THIS IS IT!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent! Good choice for the weekend warrior We used the dark walnut Ready Seal on our new pressure treated wood deck. Be sure to follow instructions to remove the mill glaze and allow the recommended dry time (2-3 months) for new wood. We applied 2 light coats. The color was a little lighter than I expected for dark walnut. Good coverage (2 coats on 400 sq ft took about 4 gal). I do not think we reach full saturation. Our plan is to wait for spring (when the wood will be a bit drier) and apply an additional coat or 2. The deck board color differences in the photo are an optical illusion; they are all stained the same color. I think it looks fantastic.
