What is the best way to absorb excess oil from deck surface after application?

Asked by: Red
I tend to add stains and sealers every couple of years to our cedar decks. When I have areas where the wood is more dense and does not allow deep penetration into the wood fibers I use a paint roller with a long handle. The rollers are cheap and absorb the excess oil from the surface. This method also avoids the need to walk on the deck surface while it is drying.

1 gal. Natural Cedar Exterior Wood Stain and Sealer is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 213.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I am a senior woman and had no trouble applying this product with a small roller and china bristle brushes on 110 feet of fence. I used the cedar color which is nice but knots do stand out since it is a medium shade. I liked the rustic look. The stain goes on nicely and seemed to dry quickly on my new dry pressure treated soft wood. I have had several compliments .

I stained my cedar deck with benches being stained first. I got a little bit a dripping but once the deck was sealed no problems what so ever. I brushed the stain in just to make sure I got in every nook and cranny and did not have a single issue. I have had it stained now for three weeks and have had many compliments on how beautiful it looks!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY THIS USELESS PRODUCT Bought August 2016. After extensive research we decided on this product for our 500sf wood deck. Our deck is 4 years & is sealed regularly. We just wanted to not need to seal every year (using Thompsons) My Husband cleaned the deck then hand painted it on TWO COATS & this took several weekends of hard work. We attempted to do our research to get the stain that will last the longest. This product got amazing reviews. Once it was all applied as per instructions the stain COLOR itself looks good. High hopes at this point. Now we noticed at the first rain 1 month in that the water did NOT bead off at all. Weird? Even the Thompsons the water beads for a few months. Its now October...2mo after & its growing algae already & its wearing off in most areas as well. We are so disappointed in this product & waste of HARD work & the $$ spent. We dont know how so many others had such a great experience? Maybe we just got a bad batch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old Fashioned Quality My cedar fence is now sixteen years old, and have been told it looks as good as a new fence... We never got stingy with the application of a good oil stain and over the years, this has proven to save us the cost of new fencing. This is the only oil stain I've been able to find that is comparable to what I've used through the years. The cost at first was a shocker, but then I had to stand back and consider what I was buying. All products made with petroleum are expensive. This stain is still the cost of a good paint... and if it's applied until the wood can absorb no more, it will last. The color is awesome, and have received nothing but complements from everyone who sees the finished job!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this Stain I bought this stain from the manufacture in 2013 after putting a redwood cedar fence around my back yard. I received so many compliments and the UPS driver even asked me what stain I bought. So glad Home Depot now sells it online. I had to restrain the backyard fence this year (2016) and the fence looks like I just installed it. The back yard is a rougher cut of board. The front fence which I installed in 2015 is a smooth cedar and I have had to stain each year. The front also is in full sun which I think contributes to having to restain. I am extremely satisfied with this product!
