Answer:
It depends on what type of stain you used and how you prep the wood. I used it on my deck that had previously been stained with a water based stain. I had to use a deck stripper because water based stains leave a coating (think of them as latex paint without a pigment). If you used a good 100% oil bases stain you probably could apply it without stripping.

Yes, my deck was previously stained. However, I did pressure was my deck. I did not use a bleach solution like Ready Seal recommends ( 1 part bleach, 3 parts water). Perhaps it would have brightened up my old treated wood a bit more if I did; but I am completely happy with my results.

Answer:
This product penetrates the wood so complete removal of old stain is imperative. Good luck with that. After 20 years of staining an old deck (with less than satisfactory results) I finally replaced it and used this stain and sealer on the new wood. While the appearance is beautiful, the horizontal boards do not hold up well over winter. (Wisc) I'm still searching for the best product.

I had a 600 square foot treated treated deck added to our home in central Alabama. We like the natural wood grain appearance and would like the best recommendation on how to treat our deck. It was built in October 2015. Would you recommend a clear sealer or stain? Best method of application?

I too was in your situation a few years ago. I like the natural wood look, but if I understand correctly, clear finishes offer very little UV protection. I went with Ready Seal (Golden Pine). This changed the natural color very little and offers good protection from all the elements. Application is effortless and mistake free. Mine has been on for three years and still looks great. Just my 2 cents.

Always a trade off it seems. Beautiful appearance, easy application and clean up, poor UV protection. Still better than all of the other products I've tried. I chose this because it requires very little prep work to reapply. (no sanding, scraping, etc.)
Good luck

Yes, if the picnic table is unpainted. This stain must be able to penetrate the wood pours.

Answer:
I don't think it is. There is a warning on the label about ingesting. This oil base dives deep into the wood but as such, never really dries like a water based stain or paint. Which are of course inferior to oil based products for decks. Would need to shellac over which defeats the purpose of using this product in subsequent years. (have to remove the shellac)

You may like a darker color than natural cedar. Their website states the darker colors have greater UV protection and their product is safe for the environment. If you still have a question, their contact phone number is on their web site. I had called them and they recommended ordering the product from Home Depot because it was cheaper! I originally purchased 5 gallons and I think it was $20.00 cheaper and had no shipping charge from Home Depot. Sounds like you will definitely need 5 gallons for your project. Hope this helps. Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 48 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ready Seal Stain is Goof Proof This is a great product!. I purchased Ready Seal Natural Cedar for my entire stockade fence, which is approximately 1/4 of an acre on my property I have used other stains on my old stockade fence, which I replaced last year and by far Ready Seal is the best on the market! It's easy to use and an amateur like myself can be a pro at using this product. The color is beautiful and allows the natural wood tones and grains and to come through the stain. I used a brush to seal my fence even though I had many individuals telling me to use a sprayer, but on my first coat of stain I wanted to make sure I got each picket coated well and didn't miss any portion of the fence. I think using a brush, even though it's time consuming allows more coverage and allows each gallon to go further then spraying - just my opinion. Ready Seal is a little more expensive then other brands, but the product is definitely well worth the cost! Excellent product and Highly Recommend it!!!!! June 14, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product! Applied as advertised. Would buy again. Great product. Was easy to apply and worked as advertised. Like the color and ease of use. So far good stuff and recommended. Note - It would have been great to have stain samples available at our local Home Depot. Product was shipped well and like it. thanks August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great oil base exterior stain I needed oil base stain for our summer home in the Adirondack Mtns and Real Stain did the job of repelling rain. The coverage was great easy to apply either by roller or spray. We were very satisfied with the product and will use it in the future. August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far, so good.... I used this product on some 15 year-old, outdoor redwood screen frames. I sanded the old finish off of the frames, wiped them down, and applied the first coat with a brush. It penetrates well. The product is described as being "goof-proof", and it pretty much is. As long as you apply it somewhat evenly, there will be no brush strokes to contend with, etc. The next day, I applied the recommended second coat. Now, I'll wait 72 hours to thoroughly let it dry before finishing the screen repairs. The test of time will be the real proof of quality, though. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product Goes on good and covers well. Just what they described. Will buy again. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Truly is 'Goof-Proof' I had never used stain before using this product.Thankfully, it truly is goof-proof! It was easy to apply and it covered well. I was only able to apply one coat, with help, before the rainy season arrived, but it is beading up nicely and we will apply a second coat in the spring for optimum protection. It's a little pricey, but worth it for the ease of application. I used the natural cedar color and it is a little darker than I anticipated, but it looks really nice and I'm very pleased with the results. I would recommend this stain to anyone wanting to protect a wood surface. October 25, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good stain The stain was very easy to use very happy with it it is a lot better than some stains out there July 6, 2016
