Customer Questions & Answers

How many coats do you recommend?

Asked by: Lorin
I applied 2 coats within 45 minutes of each other as directed by the manufacture. This application typically lasts 2-3 years depending on weather and sun exposure.

How often does this need to be applied to the deck? Every year or every 5 years?

Asked by: rod
I would generally say 2-3 years. On horizontal surfaces likely every 2 max. On vertical, I've been able to get by with 3 years on pickets, etc. It all depends on the sun and weather exposure, but I would say this is pretty typical for most stains that are not solid colors.

I stained cedar and pine and it was thin enough to go through my Wagner pro airless sprayer (2200psi). The last time I used it with stain Flood it just sputtered and spit and I had to hand brush the fence about 12 years ago, not fun. Ready stain was so easy to use pours nice into the canister. This stain contains no linseed oil so that is a good thing I wouldn't want to set my trash cans on fire. Now the cons; has nothing to do with the stain but more the sprayer. I had to refill the quart container often like twice per panel and because of the over spray it was messy on the gun and dripped on the canister which had to be wiped off in order to refill the canister (very slippery). The other thing is the wind, my bad its Oklahoma its always windy; just pick a day that is calmer you will be fine. Use a head sock and mask as well because it doesn't taste good, so masks please. I used Mahogany because I love the rich color, plus the base is red which is my favorite color. As you can see in the photos my son and I built this fence from scratch 13 panels, on cooler days of course. I have attached a few pics you be the judge. We don't do this for a living so if you see my mistakes oh well so did my wife, and she already let me know, cheers and Semper Fi.

Ready Seal says it will cover 150 square foot of a Treated Pine Deck per gal. I have 4 month old 275 square foot deck which took 3 gals.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product and finish Easy to apply, I used the Mahogany color on an old redwood deck and I'm very happy with the finish. .About half the deck boards were replaced and there was a sharp contrast between the old weathered boards and the new decking. I let the new boards weather for a couple weeks, then used a heavy nap roller and applied two heavy coats to the old, one to the new. Even color overall, smooth under foot, water rolls right off, it's a great product. I had to work a bit to even out the overlap areas, next time I'll use an airless sprayer to get the finish farther down on the edges between the boards. It took about a week to fully cure (in the rain) and looks better every week since.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far I am are impressed! The stain stays mixed up. I love the way it soaks into the wood! A little goes a long way. I am staining over a log home of 22 years of cabin brown color. The new color shows just a hint of red. It really added character to the logs by staining up the pine pitch and cracks a very dark color. This is my first use of this product and time will tell if the stain holds up and doesn't peel, like the old product. Plus it was way cheaper. Ordering thru Home Depot saved the shipping too and I got it delivered right to my door is just a few days from ordering.
