I'm considering this product to treat cedar I'm using to build raised beds for my vegetable garden. Is this a safe product for that purpose? Are there any toxicological concerns for veggies or soil?

Answer:
I don't know about the chemicals in the stain, but since it is oil based, it killed any grass under my fence and anywhere I sprayed the stain. So . I would cover any plants or soil to prevent any contamination. The stain worked well on my flowerboxes, with good results if you protect the soil. Hope this helps.

Answer:
Depends if it is a B/B, picket, solid etc. Sq ft is in the specs. If you are doing a B/B, then you can plan on using 50-75% more to get all sides. Let the fence age at least 6 months to dry out and put it on heavy.

Answer:
Multiply your fence height by your fence length and then multiply that number by two. Then look at the specifications for the stain and see what it says is the coverage area for the stain. Take the product of your height x length x 2 calculation and divide it by the coverage area for the stain. This is the number of cans of stain you will need.

Answer:
Yes, it is in stock in the paint area with the other staining products. I found that it was best to perform an online search to make sure my local store had the color I selected in stock. I purchased 3 5-gallon buckets which was all that was in stock at that time. My next purchase of 6 5-gallon buckets was performed online and had I had it delivered to my door by UPS.

Answer:
I think some stores carry it, I have 2 Home Depots close to me in the suburbs of Chicago and neither one stocked it. I had to order it online and have it shipped to my house. I have a summer home in Wisconsin which is where I used the product on my deck, porch, and picnic table.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 133 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ready Seal was very forgiving. I stained my cedar deck with benches being stained first. I got a little bit a dripping but once the deck was sealed no problems what so ever. I brushed the stain in just to make sure I got in every nook and cranny and did not have a single issue. I have had it stained now for three weeks and have had many compliments on how beautiful it looks!! October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product! Good color goes on easy and covers great October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product I am a senior woman and had no trouble applying this product with a small roller and china bristle brushes on 110 feet of fence. I used the cedar color which is nice but knots do stand out since it is a medium shade. I liked the rustic look. The stain goes on nicely and seemed to dry quickly on my new dry pressure treated soft wood. I have had several compliments . September 18, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by The stain was quite a but darker than I wanted, and much more red. Best to get 1 gal and try out the color, then blend in as needed. October 25, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good stain for the price So far, the stain is holding up but i am sure i will have to re-stain in two years time. the Redwood cedar is new and does have some mill type waxy feel to it, some parts of the stain did not stain well but i knew this going in, i just wanted it protected. i will power wash the deck this fall and will re-stain. the color is right on ( Cedar ) and it goes on great with a staining pad. Don't use too much, it will cover easily. Something to note, the stain does take some time to dry, and when it is dry you do feel some oiliness when you walk on the deck but after a few days you no longer feel that. July 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best stain ever! We purchased this product to stain our newly built fence after receiving a quote for $2000. The stain was so easy to use. One coat and beautiful! A year later the fence looks just as good. We purchased more this year for our deck. We used another stain several years ago on it and it began flaking immediately. The deck turned out equally as good! Very happy with this product! July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So Far So Good! After doing quite a bit of research, I finally settled on Ready Seal for our deck and railings. I've tried several acrylic products in the past, and they inevitably peel, despite proper preparation and application. After getting frustrated over the years, I decided to go back to an oil based product. I was pleasantly surprised by this stain. It goes on VERY easy, (I rolled the deck and brushed the railings), and it has excellent coverage. The color is rich, but it definitely needed a second coat to get the true color. The stain has only been on for about 2-3 weeks, and as expected the water is simply sitting on the surface of our 20 year old deck when it rains. We'll see how long it lasts, but so far, so good! It looks great and was super easy to apply! June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This is the best for a great looking cedar fence Hands down the best for a natural looking (non-painted) cedar fence. Goes on super easy with a sprayer. I used a basic Wagner and did 3 coats on 300 linear feet of fencing, front and back, in about an hour and a half. The product looks amazing and since it actually soaks into the wood you don't get any peeling or cracking. Still looks amazing almost 2 years later. I don't anticipate having to re-stain for a while.
