Answer:
That depends on the age of the wood and outside temperature. Normally it takes 12-24hrs before you can apply a second coat (if needed). With temps above 70 degrees, the wood will be dry in 4-8hrs.

5gal bucket covers 650sqft.. So for a 6ft fence, that would be roughly 100ft of fence.

I almost covered 1980feet one coat(20 6x8 feet panels & some of my 20 posts(2 5 gallon containers), bought a 3rd 5 to finish and give second coat to some areas and posts including where cuts where made.(touch ups)
Now I have about 2 1/2 gallons left for future coats and touch ups!
A little expensive but I believe worth it!

Bear in mind that you will use more or less product depending on the type of wood you are using. Rough-cut cedar will soak in more sealer than smooth cut. I used a roller. I will be spraying the inside of the fence to ensure all the posts and rails get a good coat, and to make sure I get all the nooks and crannies. Make sure your wood is dried completely - instructions on Ready-Seal's website will tell you how long to wait - or it won't absorb the sealer appropriately. Good luck! Read Less

Answer:
this is only my opinion but I believe that as soon as the wood has a moisture content of less than 15 percent you are good to go. Most people think that there is a mill glaze from the factory but the US Forestry labs could never re-create the mill glaze .

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 55 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Over Previous Alkyd Oil-Based For years I have finished my deck with Marine Spar Varnish and was very concerned about whether this product would work over the old beat-up finish, even though I took the time to sand. The Ready Seal (Pecan) soaked right in and the second coat was put on an hour after the first. (I used a block brush.)Then, I let it dry for the full 72 hours and the 20 year old deck looks beautiful. The recent rains bead up nicely and the smell was nothing at all like the old varnish. I will use this again in a few years! October 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product - Easy to apply and stain. Purchased 20 gal. Stained my fence and patio. It was 4yrs old.. Cedar 6"BOB - roughly 2050sqft. Used my 2 gallon pump-up sprayer to apply the stain to the wood, then followed up with a paint brush to ensure evenness and cover overlap. It took me and another guy about 4hrs to complete the job. Very simple process and definitely a great product. Here are Before/After pics. it should lighten up with 10-14 days... depending upon the weather. September 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Stain Sealer Sprayed 5 Gallons on Boat House and Floater came out awesome and was easy to apply. Goof Proof it Is! Wipes off the galvanized brackets and gray PVC pipe with ease. I made a few runs and when I moved the sprayer I spilled some on the walkway sprayed my way down and the spot is gone. October 18, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Coverage I bought this product to cover approx. 108ft. double sided cedar fencing. The product truly is 'goof proof' as they market it. The stain would go on thicker in some places than other out of the sprayer, but it all evened itsself out and came out beautiful. The stain didn't cover as much ground as I thought it would based on their calculations. I ended up having to buy an additional 6 gallons to finish the project. Overall the quality of the stain was worth the few extra dollars you would pay vs a competing brand. August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best stain ever purchased! Thank you so much. I love this product! I'm not experienced with stain or home maintenance at all. As a beginner, I am learning by trial and error. This stain was fantastic to use, definitely Goof Proof! After cleaning and sanding my neglected deck, I put 2 coats of this stain on it less than 2 weeks ago. I love the way it went on and how it looked afterwards. If I can do this, anyone can! Thanks for such a great product!! Now time will tell how well it holds up to the elements. See attached pictures. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A great sealer for a great price I use this stain for all my outdoor needs. Doesn't get any better than Ready Seal. And it's made in Weatherford Texas. September 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent deck sealing product Stripping and cleaning was the lengthy part, but is the most important segment of the job. Call the Ready Seal company and ask questions on your specific type of wood to be clear on optimal procedures for first coat (e.g., hard vs soft woods - IPE or Press Treated Pine). I have pressure treated pine that is at least 8 years old and was in good surface shape. I attached pictures of the after stripping and also post-Ready Seal - Pecan @ two coats. I used an applicator pad on the flat deck portion and hard to reach areas of deck and brushed in the rails and steps. There is no set procedure, the product does work as specified just don't apply more that the wood can absorb and you will be able to tell when you apply the first coat. Be prepared to go back and add a second coat on same day or a few days to a month later if you notice a good absorption rate. Product can withstand rain soon after application. If brushing, best to wear gloves since some stain will come back down on your hands and wrists when angled up on railing and vertical parts of the deck or fence. Product videos on the manufacturer site shows sprayers work equally well for larger projects. You won't be disappointed in the outcome and the overall ease of maintenance/reapplication over the long term. This is an oil based product, so mineral spirits is required if you want to preserve your brush for reuse. A small can of normal or low odor mineral spirits will work to keep your brush soaked in a cut out plastic bottle or something to similar after use will work until job completion and to keep the brush for the long term.. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good stain for deck Stain was purchased after reading many customer reviews on Home Depot sight and several others. Appeared to be the best product out there and after using Ready Seal I agree. Stain was delivered directly to my house with free shipping in about a week. Used on 10x40 deck and 5 gallons covered new treated pine decking but will need more for railings. I would estimate 425 sq ft coverage for 5 gallons. Used semi transparent pecan color and it looked great and showed grain of wood nicely. Applied with roller and brushed between boards and excess stain. Soaked in well and repelled water after rain. Will see how it lasts September 27, 2016
