Answer:
I almost covered 1980feet one coat(20 6x8 feet panels & some of my 20 posts(2 5 gallon containers), bought a 3rd 5 to finish and give second coat to some areas and posts including where cuts where made.(touch ups)
Now I have about 2 1/2 gallons left for future coats and touch ups!
A little expensive but I believe worth it!

Bear in mind that you will use more or less product depending on the type of wood you are using. Rough-cut cedar will soak in more sealer than smooth cut. I used a roller. I will be spraying the inside of the fence to ensure all the posts and rails get a good coat, and to make sure I get all the nooks and crannies. Make sure your wood is dried completely - instructions on Ready-Seal's website will tell you how long to wait - or it won't absorb the sealer appropriately. Good luck! Read Less

Answer:
this is only my opinion but I believe that as soon as the wood has a moisture content of less than 15 percent you are good to go. Most people think that there is a mill glaze from the factory but the US Forestry labs could never re-create the mill glaze .

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 39 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Coverage I bought this product to cover approx. 108ft. double sided cedar fencing. The product truly is 'goof proof' as they market it. The stain would go on thicker in some places than other out of the sprayer, but it all evened itsself out and came out beautiful. The stain didn't cover as much ground as I thought it would based on their calculations. I ended up having to buy an additional 6 gallons to finish the project. Overall the quality of the stain was worth the few extra dollars you would pay vs a competing brand. August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great looking stain and sealer! The stain was easy to apply and preparing the wood was fast, as I washed the patio with a water/bleach solution and that was it. We love the color of the pecan stain and EVERYBODY that has come over our house loves it, too. I highly recommend Ready Seal. June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The other ratings for this stain tell the truth...best stain ever The stain is wonderful. Easy to apply and goof proof as promised. I did my older (last stained 7 years ago) pressure treated wood deck and railings with the pecan color and it turned out so beautiful. Everyone who comes to my house always asks what kind of stain it is (no one commented on my deck before). I think I have sent a lot of people to Home Depot for Ready Seal Pecan Stain because it sells itself. The color and tone are so rich and warm. I highly recommend this product. It has been on my deck since last fall with another coat going on this spring. Still looks great and no obvious issues like peeling or chipping. September 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ready seal We just used it so we can't say how it looks over time. I can tell you so far it is great and like it says " goof proof". It is easy to use, easy to clean up looks good so far. We just bought more August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best stain for decks. I was very impressed with this stain. I am half way done staining my deck that is a year old. The wood has never been stained or sealed before. This product goes on easy and you really can't mess it up. I used a deck pad for the flat part of the deck and "deck stain" brush that I got at a local hardware store. Make sure you get a brush that is for decks and oil stains. I had a cheaper brush I used at first that was for latex paints on the label. It didn't work at all with this stain. Once I got the deck brush it was a breeze. I got the pecan color because I didn't want an orange look. The color was exactly what I wanted...a light brown. The best part about this stain is that it soaks right into the wood and reveals all the wood grain and knots. Really looks sharp. Other stains are a like a paint that just go on top of the wood which hides all the beauty of the wood grains. The biggest thing that bothers me is that Home Depot doesn't sell this in stores! Seriously, what is the problem?? I bought this online and had it shipped to my house based on the good reviews and the product is great. The stores sell the cheap Behr garbage that will literally wreck your deck in my opinion. Home Depot, get this in your stores please. September 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best stain available After many hours of repairing and cleaning an older deck I searched the internet for the stain with the best reviews. Ready Seal was the clear winner. It is very easy to apply and "goof" proof as advertised. The pecan color is beautiful on older wood and the wood grain really stands out. Very pleased with this product. August 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ready Seal Wood Stain I and three neighbors purchased this stain product to apply to cedar wood backyard fences. This was by far the best stain I have ever used. The penetration of this seal is excellent and the fence looks absolutely beautiful. I did happen to get a little stain on my hands/fingers and it cleaned off completely with one wash. Cleaning of the brush was a snap as well. I was able to stain the fence with just one coat. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Cedar siding Went on easy used a sprayer then brushed in. Need to mix well otherwise sprayer will clog.house looks great August 16, 2016
