Bear in mind that you will use more or less product depending on the type of wood you are using. Rough-cut cedar will soak in more sealer than smooth cut. I used a roller. I will be spraying the inside of the fence to ensure all the posts and rails get a good coat, and to make sure I get all the nooks and crannies. Make sure your wood is dried completely - instructions on Ready-Seal's website will tell you how long to wait - or it won't absorb the sealer appropriately. Good luck! Read Less

Answer:
this is only my opinion but I believe that as soon as the wood has a moisture content of less than 15 percent you are good to go. Most people think that there is a mill glaze from the factory but the US Forestry labs could never re-create the mill glaze .

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 22 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful Outcome! I don't usually review, but the customer pictures and reviews were extremely helpful when I was looking to order stain. I used Pecan Ready Stain to complete my fence, and I couldn't be happier with my choice. I ordered this product online because it's not carried in stores, and both times I ordered, it actually arrived earlier than expected. I am so pleased with the color. It lightened some, which is why I am happy I chose to go with the darker of my two choices. (I was stuck between Natural Cedar and Pecan). Hopefully it holds up well through WNY weather. May 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Product Very easy to apply and results look great !!! I will purchase again. Stain was easy to apply and dried quickly. Will have to see how long it holds up against UV rays though. I am expecting I will need to reapply every couple of years. I stained cedar and green treated posts. The final stain looks surprisingly similar. I am pleased with the results. I do not recommend spraying the product, you'll get ghosting. You'll want to use a deck applicator, stain pads, and brushes. I purchased different products from Sherwin Wiliams and Home Depot. The results are much richer and more consistent. It also takes more time. You will also want to apply two light coats per the directions. Remember, spend the time to do the prep work. Protect your house, concrete and everything else. Once the stain hits something that is pourous it can be difficult to remove. June 25, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Poor color The spread rate was spot on with this product. However, the color compared to the sample color given out by the store was not even close. As a contractor that is a big issue when selling one look and it turns out as another. February 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by New Cedar Fence This product is amazing and advertised correctly for once. I bought my home last year and the fence was over 30 years old falling apart so I decided to build a new one. After building it, I was faced with decision of how i'm going to stain it and or protect it. After reading reviews, talking to paint stores, and getting numerous recommendations, I really liked the fact that this product stated it goes on evenly so even if you over spray it on, it still looks pretty blended unlike other products. Needless to say, i started a section of the fence with a garden pump sprayer which put it on way too thick to point it was pouring down it so I stopped, wiped up the access with rag and decided to as my father to come over with his airless professional sprayer and got my entire 280 ft fence sprayed within 2 hours. I recommend airless sprayer for application. I bought 4 of the 5 gallon buckets and had 3 gallons left in my 2nd bucket after spraying the whole fence on both sides. Once I finished building the gates, i used a general sprayer with compressor to spray the gates which uses more than airless and less than garden sprayer. Once it dried after a day, my fence looks AMAZING and evenly sprayed even though 3 different types of sprayers were used and applied by amateur and professional. Totally doing my fence every 4 to 5 years with this product for long lasting and great looking fence. August 25, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great color & easy to apply Bought at my local home depot for $149. It is a beautiful color... all the neighbors also love it. February 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The Best Oil Based Stain on the Market I've used Ready Seal on 2,000 of my clients' decks, fences, siding, and roofs with no trouble at all. -I warranty it for 2 years on decks, and that's never been a problem. -Ready Seal is easy to apply, easy to clean up, and provides a beautiful, long lasting finish. -I've always had terrific customer service from Ready Seal. I recommend applying with a 7" painters pad. 2 coat the floor and top of the hand rail. As with any finish, surface preparation is key. ----No, I do not work for RS, I'm just incredibly excited to see it at my local HD!---- May 8, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far, so good.... Store demo made this to good to be true. To date, no stain I have used am I able to give a thumbs up for longevity. I have a lot of fence and decking to care for, so the ease of application is important. I will gladly update my ratings if the products last as long as they claim; but for now, I like the product and will gladly recommend it. December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Finish and protects the wood from the inside out. No runs or drips! No runs or drips and is truly a great product. !!! October 4, 2014
