Product Overview

The Emsco Group RESCUE 50 Gal. Earth Brown Rain Water Urn features an integrated planter and an easy-to-install, patented downspout diverter kit which fits 2 in. x 3 in. standard or 3 in. x 4 in. high capacity downspouts. The downspout diverter will automatically keep your rain barrel full when rain has fallen and bypass the rain barrel when full preventing overfilling and overflowing which can cause flooding. This rain barrel kit collects rainwater to be both environmentally-friendly and money-saving by helping reduce your dependence on municipal or well water. In addition, your plants will thrive using pure, soft rain water instead of the processed water from your tap which can contain elements harmful to your plants. An added feature about the diverter system is that it does not have to be removed during the winter season. The diverter and rain barrel can be by-passed so that water flows through the downspout as usual, keeping water from getting into the rain barrel and freezing. The integrated planter can be planted directly into or a pre-arranged floral basket can be used to adorn the top of the rain barrel. The planter area includes a weep hole, allowing excess water to drain out preventing plant stress or death due to over-watering and root rot.

  • Environmentally-friendly decorative water urn collects rain from your downspout to reduce your need for municipal or well water, helping you save money
  • Made from UV-stable, engineered resin for durability with the look of brown earth
  • Built-in large planter has weep holes to help prevent over watering and root rot
  • Kit includes our patented dual downspout diverter, a 36 in. connection hose, connection grommets, a barb plug, a 48 in. main outlet hose with on/off ball cock valve, 2 hose gaskets and an illustrated installation guide

  • Easy-to-install downspout diverter kit fits 2 in. x 3 in. standard or 3 in. x 4 in. high capacity downspouts
  • Linkable in groups of two or more
  • Holds up to 50 Gal. of rainwater

Where to drill a hole in the top of the urn since I have canales

I bought four of these. I live in New Mexico and have canales with a flat roof. The installation guide does not give any instructions as to where to drill a hole in the top of the urn if the water drips from the canales to the urn itself. I do not have gutters and downspouts.

We have large trees around us. Between the whirly birds in the spring and leaves in the fall we can't possibly keep all debris from coming thru the down spout. I'm concerned that the exit hose at the bottom of the rain barrel will get clogged.

Answer:
I guess that theoretically debris could enter, and large debris could possibly block the flow.

Answer:
The rain barrel is a closed system. The only holes are the outflow on the bottom with a hose and shutoff attached and the inflow via the 3/4" tube. Also mosquito larva free.

Very light and easy to move BEFORE it gets water in it. No idea how much 50 gallons of water weighs but I can't move it.

Answer:
it is possible. They recommend to drain it during the winter if you leave it outside. I'm on the coast of S.C. so it's not much of a factor here.

Answer:
Probably yes, the instructions tell you to disconnect the hose from the rain spout and drain the barrel for the winter. I have two and will probably add a third in the spring.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 177 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Looks and works great! Rain barrel looks great and is well made. My husband was able to install the rain barrel in about an hour. The hardest part was laying landscape pavers to raise the height of the barrel about 18 inches above ground level so that water would run out of the hose, which is gravity fed. I wanted to water plants in a planter that is about 2 feet taller than the level of the barrel's hose spigot and that doesn't really work - water won't travel up-hill. I'm now investigating an in-line solar powered water pump to give the water a boost. August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Attractive alternative to the typical rain barrel Purchased this for a customer who has an "artesian" type well under her concrete slab inside the home. Solution was to install a sump pit and pump the water under the slab to the exterior wall and into this rain barrel. Works great! I did not use the supplied attachments for the downspout. This barrel is not round, but flat on the back side to sit close to wall. There is a small drain hole in the top planter. Well constructed, heavy plastic May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sturdy Works well, just wished it held more water. Durable. June 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by stylish The diverter portion is not as good as the other brand and much harder to install since you have to cut the gutter in half and remove about an inch. The barrel itself is very nice though and well constructed. Had some rain and both barrels filled up with no issues. Have since added some plants to the top and looks very nice. December 8, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bad Quality First time the barrel filled up the back bowed out and pushed away from the house nearly falling over forward. The diverter hole is way too small and didn't take much to over flow at the diverter dropping tons of extra water at the foundation. The diverter tube diameter is also way too small. Terrible design; would only work with light rains, which cannot be predicted with certainty. I am returning both units. May 28, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Urn underwhelming Stoneware urn was nice color and texture in person. The hose was green and not tan in picture. The spigot pictured is not metal. It is actually a male hose connecter made of plastic and was melted to the urn. Had they not melted the plastic male connector to the urn, there would not have been a small leak that prevented long term water storage. I was not particularly impressed with the diverter. This is the 2nd type that is installed by cutting the drain pipe in half on my house. It diverts about 15% of the water moving down the pipe. I wondered if a small vent hole in the urn would allow more water to flow but I didn't altered the urn to find out. The planter on top does have a small hole to allow excess water to drain. It is nice that it allows you a variety of plant options because of the depth. It's the only feature I cared for that was better than my other rain barrel which is why I ranked it a two star. I returned and ordered a different replacement barrel system. Would have preferred a replacement urn sent but was forced to disassemble. It was a headache with online customer service but at the brick and mortor store they made up for homedepot.com's shortcommings. I wish this product was available instore for visual inspection upon purchasing vs buying online. June 7, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by better than expected Easy to put together, pretty, and perfect size. Planter on top is very shallow, however. October 24, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quality purchase Spent a little more for this rain barrel but it was worth every penney. The quality is great easier to drill and work with and the nozzle setup is top shelf. You will be very happy that you went for this rainbarrel May 24, 2016
