Product Overview

The Emsco Group RESCUE 50 Gal. Terra Cotta Flat-back Rain Barrel features integrated planter and an easy-to-install, patented downspout diverter kit. The diverter kit fits 2 in. x 3 in. standard or 3 in. x 4 in. high capacity downspouts. The downspout diverter will route water to the rain barrel when raining and bypass the rain barrel when full. This rain barrel kit collects rainwater to be both environmentally-friendly and cost effective by reducing your dependence on municipal or well water. The diverter system does not have to be removed during the winter season and can be by-passed so that water flows through the downspout as usual, keeping water from getting into the rain barrel and freezing. The integrated planter can be planted into directly or a pre-arranged floral basket can be used to adorn the top of the rain barrel.

  • Environmentally-friendly decorative rain barrel collects rain from your downspout to reduce your need for municipal or well water, helping you save money
  • Made from UV-stable, engineered resin for durability with the look of terra cotta
  • Built-in large planter has weep holes to help prevent over watering and root rot
  • Kit includes our patented dual downspout diverter, a 36 in. connection hose, connection grommets, a barb plug, a 48 in. main outlet hose with on/off ball cock valve, 2 hose gaskets and an illustrated installation guide

  • Easy-to-install downspout diverter kit fits 2 in. x 3 in. standard or 3 in. x 4 in. high capacity downspouts

Where to drill a hole in the top of the urn since I have canales

I bought four of these. I live in New Mexico and have canales with a flat roof. The installation guide does not give any instructions as to where to drill a hole in the top of the urn if the water drips from the canales to the urn itself. I do not have gutters and downspouts.

We have large trees around us. Between the whirly birds in the spring and leaves in the fall we can't possibly keep all debris from coming thru the down spout. I'm concerned that the exit hose at the bottom of the rain barrel will get clogged.

Answer:
I guess that theoretically debris could enter, and large debris could possibly block the flow.

Answer:
The rain barrel is a closed system. The only holes are the outflow on the bottom with a hose and shutoff attached and the inflow via the 3/4" tube. Also mosquito larva free.

Answer:
Apparently the water pressure in the tank prevents flow, so it goes down the spout.

Very light and easy to move BEFORE it gets water in it. No idea how much 50 gallons of water weighs but I can't move it.

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 171 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Only a week and we've collected 100 gallons of water We bought 3 of them and we love them. They are nice to look at and easy to assemble. We used a saw to cut the rain gutters but that's the only tool we needed to put these together. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Addition to Garden Easy to install. Very large planter area with good drainage. Having the diverter included made this rain barrel an excellent value. We were looking for an attractive rain barrel that would not detract from our garden. We already use a number of 50 gallon plastic barrels for catching the roof run off. They are extremely functional but not much in the way of landscape enhancing. This barrel fills the bill, along with the hassle free diverter. I recommend this attractive, functional addition to any garden setting. June 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great! Installed easily against porch column. Opted to change water delivery to top of barrel. Used circle-hole saw to cut 4" hole. 4" strainer was installed to filter downspout effluent. Look forward to many years of water conservation. June 7, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice rain barrel This item is made of very heavy duty material and it looks quite nice. The only issue I have with it is that you must use the diverter on it. There is no hole at the top to allow rain to get in. If I had known that when I ordered it I probably would have gotten something else, but that's my fault for not checking it out better. Get yourself a good 3/4" drill bit, this thing is made from very solid plastic. Overall it looks very nice and I believe it will do the job it is intended for and last a very long time in the weather. August 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by No water waste This product was a perfect fit where I wanted to install it. Fit nicely right beside the down spout. Simple installation. Performs well as expected. Would of preferred a facet to turn water on and off vs. just a spout with a lever on it. When elevated water drains well. March 22, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Rain Barrel deficiency The fact that this is not ready to use and holes must be drilled is a big drawback. I have purchased better previously. July 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Filled the need perfectly for garden water storage. I looked at many containers for water storage in the garden. This unit is by far the best looking and practical. I especially like the flat side to conserve space on the patio, the terra cotta color. The planter top is great, a plant helps soften the overall look! July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love the rain barrels Easy to setup. Bought two. Both work great. Look great too July 11, 2016
