Product Overview

The RESCUE 50 gallon Solid Brown Flat Back Whiskey Rain Barrel features an integrated planter and an easy-to-install, patented downspout diverter kit which fits 2 in. x 3 in. standard or 3 in. x 4 in. high capacity downspouts. The downspout diverter will automatically keep your rain barrel full when rain has fallen and bypasses the rain barrel when full, preventing overfilling and overflowing which can cause flooding. Both environmentally-friendly and budget-conscious, this rain barrel kit collects rainwater to help reduce your dependence on municipal or well water. In addition, your plants will thrive using pure, soft rain water instead of the processed water from your tap, which can contain harmful elements. As an added bonus, the diverter system does not have to be removed during the winter season. The diverter and rain barrel can be bypassed so that water flows through the downspout as usual, keeping water from getting into the rain barrel and freezing. The integrated planter can be planted directly into or a pre-arranged floral basket can be used to adorn the top of the barrel. The planter area includes a weep hole, allowing excess water to drain out and preventing plant stress or death due to over-watering and root rot.

  • Environmentally-friendly decorative rain barrel
  • Collects rain from your downspout to reduce your need for municipal or well water
  • Made from UV-stable, engineered resin for durability

  • Kit includes a dual diverter, a 36 in. connection hose, connection grommets, a barb plug, a 48 in. main hose, a ball cock, two hose gaskets and an installation guide
  • Automatic diverter system redirects water down the downspout when the rain barrel is full
  • Easy-to-install downspout converter kit fits most 2 in. x 3 in. or 3 in. x 4 in. downspouts
  • Can be connected to a soaker hose for convenient, automatic watering of nearby plants
  • Holds up to 50 gallons of rainwater
  • Can be connected to a soaker hose for convenient automatic watering of nearby plants/gardens
  • Rainwater is ideal for watering gardens as it contains no chlorine or other chemicals; plants thrive on water at ambient temperatures

Answer:
It's supposed to hook up to the gutter, however the planter area on top does have a very small hole that leaks into the barrel. You could enlarge this hole and it would collect more rain water (you'll need a screen if you keep soil/plants in the top as well.

Answer:
Since the water flow from the hose is gravity fed, the higher off the ground it is the better flow you'll get. Mine is on the ground, but I have the hose running downhill to the garden.

Answer:
To allow for a consistent flow when using the hose, I would recommend elevating the barrel 8 inches or more from ground level. I've done this and the water flows easily from the hose when required.

Hose Install in Back?

Can the hole for the connecting tube be made in the rear? I want to install this perpendicular to a downspout and am wondering if that is possible. This would also mask the tube and allow the barrel to disguise its flat back better based on the placement of my downspout.

Answer:
You can put the hole anywhere you want on the barrel but keep in mind that the diverter can only be installed onto your downspout one way, which puts the tube to the right or left of the downspout. See pic. This means you'll have to snake the tube around to the front of the down spout

Answer:
You're probably getting settlement from your gutters. I'd recommend that you put some type of screen on the gutter hole feeding the downspout that the barrel is attached to. I believe That Home Depot sells a ball type screen that can fit in the gutter hole.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 119 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good value The barrel has authentic wood grain planking, I threw some paint on the strapping to give it some contrast. Looks very nice and comes with everything you need to both attach it to a downspout, and spigot/hose assembly. Easy to install and the planter cavity on top includes a drain for the plant (potted or soil). Very pleased with the quality, accessories, ease of installation, and versatility of the unit. The rain diverter is both ingenious and simple, easily capturing even the slightest rain. I actually bought two of these, for the side and back yard. January 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great looking way to save water The barrel looks great and was easy to install. I would highly recommend it. Don't forget to check if you have rebates in your area. My water company gave me a rebate of $75 back which made the barrel just about free. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good value Very easy to install, with excellent instructions. August 13, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Rain barrels are effective tools I am a firm believer in individuals making a difference. Living in drought based CA and having rain barrels can have an impact and play a role in still keeping plants and trees healthy. This is my 2nd barrel. I like that it had a planter on top which helps to make it a more attractive part of the yard. It is light weight and was not difficult to properly set up and connect to the gutter....( however putting the diverted into the gutter is the most difficult part...proper tools can make it easier) it is surprising how little rain is needed to help, fill the barrel I like this barrel and would recommend it... Home Depot delivers for free and it came on time.... May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to Install The diverter was easier to install than I expected. Materials are of high quality. I would recommend this product. June 24, 2016

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job I needed I installed, very easy to connect, to retain water build up from gutter drains and it doing great! If fills nearly every good rain and then you have good rain water for plants. May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great! Easy to install and put in place. First rain hit and it worked great. Captured alot of water and the attached spigot hose worked well with filling up my watering can! November 24, 2013
