Rain gutters are up, just didn't want to use the down spouts, so purchased an awesome rain chain to funnel the water down to the barrel..Do you think this barrel will be able to collect the water?

Answer:
It might. Normal access per instructions is through the side. To use a rain chain, you could probably locate the barrel below the gutter and drill the access through the top instead of the side. This is not what the instructions describe, and would be a jury rig - there might be an issue with overflow when the barrel is full.

Answer:
yes it is a closed container with two holes one at the bottom that comes drilled. One at the top that you drill to connect a hose to your gutter downspout

Answer:
Yes, the barrel is completely sealed. You even have to drill the hole to run the hose into the barrel. Don't forget to drill a small air vent hole also.

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 128 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by awesome way to gather free clean water This is a tall bulky item. It came in a cardboard box that had Zero, 0, zilch packing of any kind. the box was beat up and I thought it was going to be going back as it must be damaged from the box's condition. But much to my surprise the barrel come undamaged and showed no scratches etc from its rough handling. Followed the directions and it was ready to collect water in under 15 minutes of work to get it hooked up to a gutter downspout. First rain and it was 1/2 full, the second rain and it was totally filled. Only thing I would request is a deeper 'flower' pot on the top. It is not deep enough to take a large 1 gallon plant so buy lots of small plants that can grow into the available area that it has. June 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice looking rain barrel. The product has a nice terracotta finish. I tested it by pouring water down the gutter and it did work, no water was pouring out of the rain spout. It was easy to install. The design is clever with the place for a potted plant on top, our main concern was how it would look like on the side of our pretty patio. We are pleased with the look. Only concern is the price... for a big plastic barrel it is overpriced. July 20, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Does not work. Water does not flow into barrel probably because there is no vent or other means for air to escape. Off take mechanism will not handle water in 4" down spout hence it spews out at installation point. This rain barrel set up seems to be made for very small roof areas and small down spouts in areas where rain falls gently. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by it's a Godsend! Very easy to follow instructions helped me to set up my first rain barrel very quickly. It's made a positive impact on my plants, because I use the rain water to fertilize instead of the city treated water. The plants respond so well to the rain water. I also planted flowers in the top and they're doing very well too! July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very good deal We found this product to be very competitive with other rain barrels we had researched. This one is more of a "sealed" system which should cut down on misquotes and other insects. Water will enter in (slowly) from the downspout and supposedly that's how overflow is controlled. We also found that the packaging made it look like it was shipped from Khandahar Airfield during the middle of a firefight and we also had a huge dent in the barrel. I used an air compressor to push the dent back out. The Instructions are straightforward, you have to locate and drill for the water to enter from the downspout. So maybe in six months or so we'll see some rain and test it out. July 21, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Size, Nice Looking, Two Minor Issues This barrel has great size and looks nice. I don't mind that it is completely sealed as others do. This design guarantees that you won't be running a mosquito farm. It does have some issues that are easily resolvable. First, you have to drill a small air vent. After drilling the 3/4" hole for the drain hose to fit into, there is no gaps for air to escape so very little water runs in. Once I drilled a small vent hole, water flowed perfectly. Second issue is that in moderate rain, the 3/4" od hose just can't move the volume of water that it needs to to keep up. You loose as much down the spout as you save. However, it is like that with this volume of rain, the barrel will fill completely anyway. January 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 100% Satisfied I originally bought this same rain barrel three years ago. We loved it so much we bought a second one this year. Now we have one for each side of the house. They work great, and look like real terra cotta pots. Everyone thinks they are just giant planters. Easy to install with a divertor kit you can buy for about $25. No problems at all. I honestly couldn't be happier with them. They are quite big, but I wouldn't want a smaller one. I would rather collect as much rain water as possible. They work great for filling up watering cans, and you an attach a hose if you want to water the whole garden. July 11, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good size for a water barrel The setup went well but when the barrel filled the first time I found out that the base had a soft spot, so the barrel has a decided tilt. It also has no cleanout opening, so anything that gets in will have to come out the bottom drain hole. The unit is OK for the price. I installed a larger inflow tube because I do not think the one provided will fill the tank fast enough in downpours which we seem to be getting more of lately, probably due to global warming.
