How do I get the water from spewing out of the gutter and get it to fill the barrel thru the tube!!! I'm very upset with this right now!!!

Asked by: jad13579
I'm going to get an actual downspout and run it directly into my rain barrel after cutting a tight fitting hole in the top of the barrel for the downspout to fit into. That way the water will flow into it directly and have a nice large access from the gutter, preventing gutter spillover and splashing. Hope this helps!

can i attach a regular garden hose to this so that I can take flood water from elsewhere into it with a pump?

Asked by: Jonny
the urn is very easy to drill into so if you find the hardware that could be mounted in an additional hole that you drill even with the hole you have to drill to hook up the downspout to the urn you can fill it however you want.

85 Gal. Terra Cotta WaterUrn Decorative Urn Rain Barrel Kit with Integrated Planter is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 132.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from awesome way to gather free clean water This is a tall bulky item. It came in a cardboard box that had Zero, 0, zilch packing of any kind. the box was beat up and I thought it was going to be going back as it must be damaged from the box's condition. But much to my surprise the barrel come undamaged and showed no scratches etc from its rough handling. Followed the directions and it was ready to collect water in under 15 minutes of work to get it hooked up to a gutter downspout. First rain and it was 1/2 full, the second rain and it was totally filled. Only thing I would request is a deeper 'flower' pot on the top. It is not deep enough to take a large 1 gallon plant so buy lots of small plants that can grow into the available area that it has.

It blends nicely with the brick of our house. There are two drawbacks -- (1) the method by which it fills from the downspout is not very efficient, as most of the water bypasses the narrow hose that leads to the barrel, and (2) it was quite expensive!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Large size and volume of water I just recently ordered and installed two water urns. Easily installed in two hours, but they need to have a level surface. After two short rainfalls they were both full. The capacity is fantastic. The only issues I have are that the top of the urn gets so warm that the flowers I planted in the tops keep wilting so it needs more water than a normal potted plant. Also the urn is huge to it looks a little out of place on my patio with the other pots around it. But, I am willing to live it for the amount of water it holds. I have two other barrels that each hold 65 gallons and I am always running low. Wish I had bought the 85 gallons the first time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful! Absolutely Beautiful with a capital B. It is 4 feet tall & the base is 20 inches in diameter with the center being wider. It looks great on the corner of my one story house. the planter on the top is great - very decorative when planted. We did not experience problems with installation - the directions were clear & it can be installed on either side of the down spout (but not in front of the down spout). Be sure that you have a solid base to set it on (this is mentioned in the instructions). It weighs 700 pound when full of water. I used a 20 inch concrete pad, a bag of paver base & a bag of sand - all bought at Home Depot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Would be better if it had a large opening for cleaning This rain barrel looks great and holds lots of water. With some nice flowers in the planter, I am able to put it in the front of my house and it doesn't even look like a rain barrel. It was fairly easy to install. I would like it much better if the top came off for cleaning - there is really no way to clean it and rain barrels tend to get lots of leaves and other debris from the gutters in them. I have had mine installed for a year and a half and it has held up well. I disconnect and drain all of my rain barrels in winter to make sure they don't freeze (which can cause cracks), and that helps them last longer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from after modification... The description should include the fact there is only a pilot hole on the side of the rain barrel with no water entry from the top. One drain hole for the planter is nicely finished. In order to use our existing rain chain we had to modify the top and create an opening. The included gutter diverter wouldn't have been sufficient, even if the tubing could have fit into the hole provided. This barrel arrived with a huge dent in the side... which popped out on it's own with the help of the hot weather. I was worried that it wouldn't pop out since it has thick outer walls. For the price, this is a good value. I would recommend purchasing a different diverter if you are planning to use one. There are several out there to choose from. Overall we like the look of this rain barrel... even with the added work to accomidate our needs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good barrel, drill breather hole for proper filling This barrel installs fairly easily. I did mine in an evening after work. Make sure you have a solid footing to place it on, the instructions say it weighs 700 lbs when full. I built a base out of packed gravel, sand and some cinder blocks I had lying around. The instructions don't mention adding a breather hole, but if you don't the barrel won't fill properly and most of your rain water will just run down the drain. I drilled a 1/4" hole in the top of the barrel and that seems to do the trick.
