Hi PattyD, I contacted the manufacture of this product to get you an answer.
Okay, first you take the yellow cap on the bottom under the card board off. Next slide the card board off the the trap.
There are two little tabs around the rim of the cone. you need to place your hand up in the cone and move your hand around until the tabs snap out of the rim. You then can get to the instruction inside on how Read More

I only figured out after I opened it that I had the wrong type of trap. Most of the bees around my place look like the paper wasp. Will this trap work for wasps if I use the correct attractant or should I return it and get a wasp trap?

I have the wasp under my shutters on the house and of which are close to my Hornet traps. I have never caught a wasp in my hornet trap. I would return and get a wasp trap if they are available.

Rated 3.3 out of 5 by 23 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Catches them Bought one 2 weeks ago and have caught 7 queens in the front yard. Just bought another for the back yard and already caught 2 more queens. If you follow the directions it works just fine. I do not understand how people say it does not work. It works for Yellowjackets. May 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by trap is horrible hung it in a shed with 100s of wasps flying all around.closed doors for three days not a single wasp in trap.got stung taking it down!!!! DON'T BUY THIS TRAPP!!!!! April 24, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not Recommended They're too cheap to include a piece of string in the package, so if you might not have an easy way to hang it up. We returned ours. April 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great!! I've used these off and on in my yard for the last few years and I'm still amazed at how well they work. I set one up this past weekend after noticing a lot of yellow jackets in my yard and within minutes they were all over it. By the next day, the trap had caught about two dozen. Highly recommended! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A must if you have Yellow Jackets! If you have yellow jackets you will want to get a couple of these. It may not take care of every one but it is amazing how many if does catch! September 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Hornet Trap I placed one trap near my deck where we cook and eat. The bees are more interested in the scent from the Yellow Jacket Trap than my cooking. I emptied it at 9 am and had another 25-30 hornets in it by 11:30am. I bought a second one and placed it in the front yard and within 2 hours I had so many hornets in it that I couldn't count them. Most of the wind comes from the Southwest and so I try and place the trap up wind from the area I'm trying to cover. This causes the hornets to follow the scent back to the trap as the scent drifts from the trap through my seating/eating area. I have used them for a number of years with great success. Some days are better than others and I'm not sure what causes the increase in activity at the traps. August 14, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DOES NOT WORK! Don't waste your money! They are currently 22 yellow jackets in the window around the trap...and not a single one inside! October 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by These traps work wonders! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We've used these traps in the past, and totally freed our yard and surrounding area of yellow jackets. We haven't had yellow jacket problems for years, so we finally got rid of the one we had laying around.....and this year we have them again. I searched until I found the same kind we had used before, and this is it. Almost immediately after hanging it up, with the attractant provided, there was a yellow jacket poking around it. Now, 2 hours later, there are 5 yellow jackets caught inside (yes, I went out and counted them), and there was one on the outside trying to figure out how to get inside to join the party. When we had one of these before, I discovered that meat I had grilled over a fire (charcoal or wood) attracted the yellow jackets even better than the attractant it comes with or that you can buy. Just put a small piece of grilled meat where the attractant goes, and it works even better. September 1, 2015
