Customer Questions & Answers

Does this product offer a satisfaction guarantee? Mine has not trapped a single wasp, and they are all over the area.

Asked by: Amy
This trap will only work for yellow jackets. You would need to know what kind of wasp and then get the right trap. Rescue makes a different variety of trap that is supposed to work for lots of different types, you may want to try that one.

How do you open the thing. I have tried and tried and can't seem to succeed.

There are no instructions on how to open it.
Asked by: PattyD
Hi PattyD, I contacted the manufacture of this product to get you an answer. Okay, first you take the yellow cap on the bottom under the card board off. Next slide the card board off the the trap. There are two little tabs around the rim of the cone. you need to place your hand up in the cone and move your hand around until the tabs snap out of the rim. You then can get to the instruction inside on how to use the product. If you need additional help you can call 1-800 666-6766 direct to the manufacture.

Can I use the wasp and hornet attactant in the yellow jacket trap?

I only figured out after I opened it that I had the wrong type of trap. Most of the bees around my place look like the paper wasp. Will this trap work for wasps if I use the correct attractant or should I return it and get a wasp trap?
Asked by: Kirya
I have the wasp under my shutters on the house and of which are close to my Hornet traps. I have never caught a wasp in my hornet trap. I would return and get a wasp trap if they are available.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great!! I've used these off and on in my yard for the last few years and I'm still amazed at how well they work. I set one up this past weekend after noticing a lot of yellow jackets in my yard and within minutes they were all over it. By the next day, the trap had caught about two dozen. Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from $11 worth of fun In Colorado Springs, CO this thing is bagging 20 a day. How ever it bodes on my character, I take joy seeing YJ's meet their doom.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Traps don't kill the larvae..... These work okay but what you really want to destroy are the larvae in the nests. These just kill the workers (adults) that enter the trap. The nests have 1000's of larvae in them. I used these for years using fruit juice and wet dog food for bait instead of buying their bait. I decided to hit home by using a plastic milk crate, mesh wire, wet cat food, grape juice, and D-Con. I mix D-con into the food and juice (in separate containers) then place it in the crate. I put wire on the top and handle openings so that birds and animals can't get inside. Yellow jackets are not meat eaters but they collect meat to take back to the nests to feed the larvae. They feed the larvae the D-Con from the cat food. They love the sugar from the juice but it's curtains for them. A little goes along ways.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Hornet Trap I placed one trap near my deck where we cook and eat. The bees are more interested in the scent from the Yellow Jacket Trap than my cooking. I emptied it at 9 am and had another 25-30 hornets in it by 11:30am. I bought a second one and placed it in the front yard and within 2 hours I had so many hornets in it that I couldn't count them. Most of the wind comes from the Southwest and so I try and place the trap up wind from the area I'm trying to cover. This causes the hornets to follow the scent back to the trap as the scent drifts from the trap through my seating/eating area. I have used them for a number of years with great success. Some days are better than others and I'm not sure what causes the increase in activity at the traps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite YJ trap I've tried several. This year the yellow jackets are intense and are eating my honey bees. I put out two more of these traps and one was full almost to the top of the cone in 4 days. I am getting hundreds per day. I'll put it in the freezer for an hour then empty it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from saved camping trip It was recommended to bring a trap on our camping trip; picked one of these up on the way there. The first yellow jacket came out as soon as we opened the cooler. Set this up and within minutes, they were swarming the trap and not our table. We had a small problem the second night when a few came to the table, but for the most part, the trap kept them all there. We added a piece of meat and some dog food to the trap to make it more interesting for them. After 2 days, there were perhaps 15-20 dead yellow jackets in there; we left the trap behind as we figured it would help future campers and we didn't need it at home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy & Effective I've been told that the best time to put these out in your back yard is in the spring, right before it starts to get warm. I've kept the trap outside all year long. Even in the chilly months, I'll trap a bee or two. Takes a bit of getting use to taking the contraption apart to discard the carcasses, but you'll figure it out. During the peak season, you'll want to check the trap every other day, as it can fill up quickly. Place it away from the house, and a location that you can see the trap from a window (for convenience). Simple construction, but very effective. Some words of caution - do NOT get the trap-juice on you. If you do, WASH immediately (or else they'll come after YOU). Also, make sure the yellow jackets are "spent" before taking the trap apart to discard the dead.
