Customer Questions & Answers

is this just a sump pump?

Is this just a sump pump that has to be placed in a pit or trap or can it be placed anywhere on the floor where there is water or a flood? Does it automatically turn on/off in the presence of water or does it need to be turned on and off manually?
Asked by: Anonymous
This is a utility pump that can be placed in a container or a flat area – this pump is not automatic – it is a manual pump

Customer Reviews

1/4 HP Submersible Auto On/Off Utility Pump is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great features but poor operation Ordered this pump because of the automatic on/off self contained water level sensor. As recommended by Ridgid, I installed a check valve I bought at the hardware store to prevent back flow from turning the pump back on after it pumps down (forget trying to find the recommended Rigid check valve). I have used it for two weeks. The pump works great but the automatic water level sensor does not! It causes the pump to cycle on and off. There needs to be a wider range on the water level switch. I have checked and cleaned per the instructions. Buy a pump with a float switch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great performance I previously purchased a similar product from a competitor, however had to take it back after 0ne weeks use due to the product failing. I have used this pump at least 5 times and it has been efficient every time. I also was sold when I saw that it comes with a 3yr warranty. I would highly recommend this product and Home Depot.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pay Close Attention! This pump will not begin to pump water until you have 2 1/2 inches of water present. If you want to place this in an area that is prone to flooding, it will be too late once it begins to pump water. Look at the indicator line on the side of the pump for minimum water to activate. I am pretty sure this pump is made by Wayne for Rigid. I bought the Wayne version at a lower cost and had to return in becasue it would not pump water unless it was already at the 2 1/2 inch level. Wish someone would have told me.
