I bought this combo unit to replace a current primary pump. The installation was simple; remove old pump, adjust discharge pipe for length, glue back into place.
The only gripe I have is that the intake area for the back-up pump is much higher than that of the primary. By the time the back-up float is triggered, the water level is completely above the primary pump.
Overall, the pump has been installed for a couple weeks and is working as expected. Other reviewers are not exaggerating... this pump will drain the water out in just a few seconds! No loss of power yet, but I have tested the back-up and everything is in working condition.

Had this system installed for nine months and use this system as a duplicate to my primary. In other words I have a separate primary pump in addition to this unit. I have a 11.5 foot lift that eliminated most back up pumps since they would not discharge at that height. After a very heavy rain I tested the pump by unplugging my primary. The pit filled until I could hear a humming noise until the water reached the back up pump flow switch. I drained the pit and noticed smoke coming from the primary unit. This is the first time I used the pump since I installed it and it did not function like it should. The back up worked properly but the primary did not turn it all.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by FiguredItOut Water Sensor Pumps that won't shut off
You people that are dissatisfied with the water sensor equipped sump pumps that won't shut off pay attention.
True, the water sensor does need to be periodically cleaned depending on your ground water cleanliness, however, if the sensor is cleaned, and the pump continues to run, move the pump in the sump hole away from the falling water. The instructions indicate that water can not fall directly on the water sensor. The sensor continues to "read" water, and thinks that the sump is still full. Divert the water, or move the pump in the sump pit away from the incoming water. Water sensors are very reliable if used correctly.

Installation was not difficult, replacing a broken pump. This unit is more powerful, but very quiet (we used to gage the flooding conditions by timing the intervals between pumpings; now we cannot hear it at all!). I'm not crazy about the auto-switch. It is a non-contact switch, and is not completely consistent as to when it starts. It is keeping the water level low, so it is doing its job. I can't test the backup pump, as the water level won't reach that high until spring. Great product; I was planning on doing a slightly more elaborate backup systme myself; this makes it much more simple.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lori All in one and easy to install
My husband and I are from Florida and didn't have the first clue about sump pumps. After a big storm and losing power for 26 hours we realized we probably needed a battery back up system, I showed this pump while researching back up systems to a handyman working at the house and he was intrigued. He said he always used Rigid sump pumps and they were a good brand.Even though our pump worked fine, I liked the idea of an all in one unit. My husband with some guidance from our neighbor put it in in less than an hour. Our neighbor who has put in many sump pumps and back-up systems, really liked the design and the ease of installation. It works great though we haven't tested the back up battery yet. Would definitely recommend it.

This pump has a sensor that is very very touchy. You're supposed to clean it once a month. Kind of a pain to get to every month.
During the first 2 weeks of use the pump wouldn't shut off. I cleaned the sensor off each time. The first time I was lucky and it started to work. The second time, not so lucky. I couldn't get the pump to stop. Back to the store I went and bought a much cheaper unit and it works much better with a float switch....
The pump itself is top notch but the electronic switch design they use is a total joke.. very very poor idea..

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JUSTINH Perfect Primary/BackUp combo sump pump
This was exactly what I needed. We get a lot of drainage/rain water so need a reliable sump pump, and my old one was grinding (plus I didn't have a back up in case of power failure). It is compact, has a strong motor and high flow rate, and it was very easy to install. All I had to do was cut a piece of 1.5" PVC and glue it to the pump discharge and my outlet line. We just had our first big storm and it worked like a charm. It's also much smoother and quieter than my old pump.
A couple of things I learned after ordering: no need to install a check valve (like most sump pumps) because it has an internal one built in. Also, the only additional cost you will have is buying the "car battery" necessary for the battery back-up ... budget about $70 for that.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by MdMoose Water sense sensor does not shut main pump off
Our sump pumps daily rain or shine - in a heavy downpour almost continuously. Purchased this unit to pump lots of water when the power goes out through the single discharge pipe. Back up pump has very limited capacity and pumps much less than a 1/6 hp utility pump. Agree with others, main unit pumps a lot of water fast. Hooked up main with mechanical float because I cannot keep the sensor/float working. Yes, I've cleaned the sensor several times. Probably returning unit after this weeks storms pass.
