1 HP Stainless Steel/Cast Iron Primary Sump Pump and Reinforced Thermoplastic Back Up System is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from sump pump combo I bought this combo unit to replace a current primary pump. The installation was simple; remove old pump, adjust discharge pipe for length, glue back into place. The only gripe I have is that the intake area for the back-up pump is much higher than that of the primary. By the time the back-up float is triggered, the water level is completely above the primary pump. Overall, the pump has been installed for a couple weeks and is working as expected. Other reviewers are not exaggerating... this pump will drain the water out in just a few seconds! No loss of power yet, but I have tested the back-up and everything is in working condition.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Water Sensor Pumps that won't shut off You people that are dissatisfied with the water sensor equipped sump pumps that won't shut off pay attention. True, the water sensor does need to be periodically cleaned depending on your ground water cleanliness, however, if the sensor is cleaned, and the pump continues to run, move the pump in the sump hole away from the falling water. The instructions indicate that water can not fall directly on the water sensor. The sensor continues to "read" water, and thinks that the sump is still full. Divert the water, or move the pump in the sump pit away from the incoming water. Water sensors are very reliable if used correctly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Primary/BackUp combo sump pump This was exactly what I needed. We get a lot of drainage/rain water so need a reliable sump pump, and my old one was grinding (plus I didn't have a back up in case of power failure). It is compact, has a strong motor and high flow rate, and it was very easy to install. All I had to do was cut a piece of 1.5" PVC and glue it to the pump discharge and my outlet line. We just had our first big storm and it worked like a charm. It's also much smoother and quieter than my old pump. A couple of things I learned after ordering: no need to install a check valve (like most sump pumps) because it has an internal one built in. Also, the only additional cost you will have is buying the "car battery" necessary for the battery back-up ... budget about $70 for that.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Solid main Pump but backup failed in under 9 months Purchased this unit in late November of 2010 after having my basement flood due a few times due to faulty pumps and power outages including once while being gone on vacation. The fact that the main pump and backup pump are separate was comforting to me in addition to the battery backup for power loss. Installation was pretty easy and took under 30 min. I tested the main pump and backup and they both worked well after installing it. The main pump gets quite a lot of usage probably kicks in once every couple of hours. The backup was never needed until we lost power in June 2011 for 36 hours due to a heavy storm just before I was due to go on a 3 week vacation. Luckily I was at home at the time and after an hour or so went to check on the pump. Much to my horror the sump well had filled up 3/4 of the way, well above the backup pump which failed when I most needed it. I tried checking the leads to the battery and they were well secured, the fuse on the battery which was fine and the indicator showed it to be filly charged, checked the fuse and it was fine. I tried manually lifting the float but that did nothing. Luckily I was able to borrow a friends generator and plug the main pump back in. I called the company and they said they would send me a new backup pump which means I now have to disassemble it and replace the backup pump. For the kind of money spent on this and the battery ~$600 I could have just bought a generator instead and gone with a regular sump pump. Moreover the peace of mind that comes with knowing the backup will work for sure is now lost which was what I was really paying for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THE "plug and play" sump pump + battery backup I cannot believe how easy this new sump was to install (as a replacement). My old sump already had a check valve, so I just detached the lower end of the check valve, cut the discharge pipe off the old sump to match the new sump's higher discharge port, popped the pipe in the sump, and reattached it to the check valve. I got the recommended Wayne maint. free battery (based on a prior comment about burning thru regular car batteries every year), which arrived fully charged, so the whole set-up was up and running within 15 minutes! Yes, it's a little more expansive than putting the components together yourself, but the peace of mind knowing everything works together perfectly is worth a few extra bucks - not to mention the time savings with this pre-assembled system. And (as others have attested), the water pumping speed is very imnpressive; even the back-up sump works as fast as my old electric sump.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really moves water fast! So I just installed this sump pump, as my wife has really been requesting that we get a battery backup. For the cost of a back-up, and the difficulty of installing an add-on to the existing pump, I opted to spend extra to buy this integrated pump which is 1hp instead of the 3/4 hp I had installed a couple years ago. Installation was very easy, as you only have one pipe to connect! This pump really moves water. I have about a 10 foot elevation. After dumping in several buckets of water, the pump emptied the contents in about 2 seconds. Much faster than the 3/4 hp I had. It is also very quiet. I am going to wait for a few days to make sure the battery is fully charged before I test it, but am sure it will work as well. Seems to be built very solid. I look forward to knowing that my basement will be dry even if my power goes out! Would recommend spending the extra money for the ease of installation and quality (considering what it costs to fix a wet basement).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great performance and easy installation As easy as installing a single pump with a quiet ,high volume discharge. The only thing I would have liked, was a longer lead for the battery connections. I had reservations about the switch, but it works great. Two friends saw it and bought one, even though one had purchased a new pump less than a year ago.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great!!! Have had this sump pump running for about 2 weeks. Really easy to install. Has been running flawlessly with all the rain we have been getting. I used the Basement Watchdog 7.5 hour battery. It can be picked up at Home Depot.
