Customer Questions & Answers

Can this extension cord be used in a wet location where it may occasionally sit in water.

I am using this product on a sailboat
Asked by: MAKS
There is nothing special about the ends that would protect against moisture, so keep that in mind. However if just the cord part is going to be exposed to some water I wouldn't hesitate there. The sheathe is really heavy duty so I wouldn't imagine there would be any issues.

Can this be used to plug in a window a/c unit to a single circuit 15 amp breaker? The a/c unit says its 12 amps 1330w.

Asked by: Tivomkc
Thank you for your inquiry in our 100 ft. 12/3 SJTW Extension Cord with Lighted Plug. The rating for this cord is adequate. Running a window air conditioner on an extension cord for an extended period of time is not recommended. Extension cords are temporary use devices hence the name “service cord”. Local codes may prohibit the use of an extension as a mean to power devices for an extended period of time inside a building. Due to the nature of an extension cord temporary power purpose, there is also a risk a cord end may become separated from its mate. You will also need to make that any excess cord is laid out flat and not coiled up. This can melt the jacket and may create a fire hazard if left unattended.

Can it be used to full power an RV?

Need a cord strong enough to run a mobile grooming trailer
Asked by: Celeste
To: 'Celeste' {....use this to FULL-POWER an RV?} Not really a Great Idea! ...FAR better to acquire a legitimate 'RV' Power Cord, of 10 Ga & 10'-25' maximum length. F.Y.I - whenever parked & connected @ any RV Camp Site, that usually supplies a minimum of (30) amps, which your Question Cord can NOT handle at all. eli2

Melted/Burnt Plug - Warranty Service?

I purchased this Ridgid 100ft 12/3 ext cord a couple of years ago from Home Depot to use with a 12amp Toro blower. The lighted female plug at the end of the cord is now burnt and melted. Is this normal? Is this eligible for warranty service? If so can I take it to Home Depot for warranty service?
Asked by: bargainhunter
RE: Ei2 Pro I appreciate the effort in replying with an answer however I believe you misunderstood some facts in the question. This wasn't used for an "electric snow blower" as you incorrectly stated, this was used for a "Toro blower", my mistake was not mentioning it was a 12amp Toro LEAF blower. Also, per the Toro user manual it states min. of 14gauge at 100' length. Considering I was using 12/3 I was above the manufacturer requirement. This burnt plug is either due to a defect in the Rigid power cord or to the Toro leaf blower. Again thank you for your efforts.

100 ft. 12/3 SJTW Extension Cord with Lighted Plug is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought this to power a 13 amp electric snow... I bought this to power a 13 amp electric snow blower. It worked perfectly. The cold didn't cause it to become too stiff to manage either. I especially like the way the plug lights up. Since blowing fuses is easy with this type of tool, it's nice to be able to know right away you have power.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Flexible and High Quality Extension Cord It’s past time to replace my old, frayed and undersized extension cords. I bought a Ridgid 25 Ft 12 Gauge Extension Cord a few years ago and have been very satisfied with its performance, so I decided on a new Ridgid 100 Ft 12 Gauge Extension Cord with Lighted Plug. This is a contractor grade cord and is rated for 15 Amps. It also stays flexible from -58 to 167 degrees Fahrenheit and uses three 12 gauge copper stranded wires. The lighted plug is a nice feature that is very handy at night. \ As a general rule, an extension cord should be as short as possible to avoid excessive voltage drop under load. This Ridgid 100 Ft 12 Gauge Extension Cord is the perfect solution for using power tools, shop vacuums and other high power consumption devices at a long distance from the power source. Highly Recommended!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect for yard work This power cord uses 12 gauge wire - which is heavy enough to drive a 15 Amp device. If you use a lighter cable you may be overloading the cable resulting in lower being available to the appliance. We use this for powering our electric lawnmower and it works perfectly for that purpose. The appliance end socket has a small light in it to show you when the cable is energized. This is really useful when you are 100' away from the wall socket and you need to know if the power is on or not. It is a grounded cable as you would expect and is a full 100' long (I measured it!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flexible and Heavy Duty This is a heavy-duty extension cord. You can tell it’s higher quality than cheaper cords just by picking it up – it’s much heavier than its cheaper counterparts and its rubber insulation feels more robust. Despite its sturdy construction, it’s still very flexible and easy to coil. It works great for powering shop vacs, lawn equipment and power tools. The lighted plug is also a nice feature. If you are regularly powering devices with high power consumption, you can’t go wrong with this cord!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The last cord you’ll need! This is my second Rigid 12 gauge extension cord. While I use extensions often around the shop and yard I’ve oftentimes went with cheaper cords because I didn’t want to spend the money. I love this cord – it’s so much better than a cheaper cord. For one, the construction is excellent, with heavy rubber insulation and a beefy plug and receptacle that are firmly attached. I’ve had my first cord for two years now and have put it to good use restoring my barn. 12 gauge is not only heavy duty but also supports higher current (15A), which is great for power tools. The lighted end is great, of course, letting you know if it’s powered up. By the way, 100 feet is exactly the limit for a 12 gauge cord to carry 15 amps without a significant voltage drop, so again, this is a no-brainer solution in my opinion. Unless you physically damage the cord it will last for many years and serve you well. I’m not lying when I say that every time I grab this for a task I feel spoiled.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome I've been heavily using this cord over the last several months as we go through a remodel/addition and power wasn't yet hooked up in the new space. I wanted something heavy duty and long enough so that I could run higher draw tools without issue such as my table saw, miter saw, and compressor. This has been great to have around, no issues at all, light is a nice feature. Just prepare yourself for 10-15lbs of heavy duty-ness. (thats a good thing)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It was not as good as I thought. Something wrong with material on outside the cord. There is one spot getting soft and air bubble and going to come a part so I might take it back for exchange.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wouldn't buy another brand of extension cord. This cord stays soft in all temperatures. Very durable around the jobsite. Will take getting run over by anything and keep on working. Lighted ends make knowing you have power a snap.
