Product Overview

The RIDGID 12 gallon high performance wet dry vac is designed for pro's and DIYers who want a traditionally styled, medium sized vacuum that delivers the powerful performance and rugged durability required for jobsite clean-up. Its 5.0 peak horsepower motor delivers the suction power necessary to handle tough clean-up chores. This RIDGID vac's 12 gallon drum size results in a more compact design that requires less storage space on a service truck, in the shop, or in the garage. However, it still offers the capacity to handle large messes. Replacement filter VF4000 and replacement dust bag VF3502, both sold separately.

  • 5-peak HP motor provides powerful suction for heavy-duty cleanup
  • Compact size, side carry handles and 4 swivel casters provide for great maneuverability
  • 15 ft. cord wraps around the power head for storage
  • Built-in drain for easy emptying of liquids
  • Accessory storage space on the caster feet and hose storage on the lid allows quick access to attachments
  • Includes 2 extension wands, utility nozzle, a car nozzle, wet nozzle and VF4000 filter
  • Accepts RIDGID filter bag, VF3502
  • Full lifetime warranty against material defects and workmanship
  • Peak horsepower represents a level at or below the maximum horsepower output of an electric motor tested in a laboratory using a dynamometer
  • Gallons indicated reflect drum volume, not necessarily collection capacity; actual capacity dependent upon type of debris collected, condition of filter, and other factors

Customer Questions & Answers

For dry vacuuming, when do I use a vacuum bag vs a filter? Do you ever use a vacuum & a filter at the same time?

The instruction manual says nothing about using vacuum bags yet there are bags for it.
Asked by: Gm
I use mine in a wood shop, mainly sawdust and wood chips. I don't use a bag, just the filter.

Will this vac work well for dog hair? I have ruined traditional vacuums with dog hair. Thank you.

Asked by: MomOf4Dogs
Yes. The way it's constructed, the dog hair will just be trapped by the filter. You'll probably need to clean the filter pretty often, but it should work well on dog hair, better than a regular floor vacuum.

can i find parts or hose for this vacuum in home depot?

Asked by: paco
Depends on which home depot you go to. Most of the ones I go to in San Diego do have extra attachments available as well as replacement parts. If you register with Ridgid for the lifetime service agreement any parts you may need because they have broken should be provided by ridgid through home depot. Nothing has broken on mine but its nice to know I will be taken care of should something happen.

Does it need to use paper dust bags? or could it be used bagless ?

Asked by: Estell
You don't need bags, if you are using it to clean up water or any liquids it would ruin the bags. I only use the bag when I am cleaning up plaster dust from sanding it.

Have had this vac for 3 yrs now...used for everything from bailing out engine compartment on boat to simple garage clean up and always works with lots of lift and suction. Bags and filter are kind of a pain but not necessary for operation.

How about swallowing up saw dust from 20' away? Well this wont do those things, but its pretty darn close. Growing up in the trades my father always used the "Shop Vac" brand. I went to go buy one for my self and home depot only sold these orange things that had a name on them I associated with pipe wrenches. Bummed and lacking time to search out the coveted "Shop Vac" my father always used I got one of these, hung my head and went home. Man was I shocked when this thing really worked amazing. Its been 4 years now and it still works just as well. I used it at work for vacuuming up everything from drywall dust to dirt from footings. At home we use it to clean out cars (wife is currently asking me to bring it home this weekend for just such a task that I am sure will be my task and not hers). I have put this thing through its paces for a few years now and it hasn't let me down. Only bummer is that I did not register it when I bought it for the life time warranty which I now register all my power tools with. I've even sucked up freshly crushed granite from a rock demolition job. As far as Shop vacuums go this thing is a solid buy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Will probably have to return this, only had it a day. Works great when it is on, sucked up eve... Will probably have to return this, only had it a day. Works great when it is on, sucked up everything I wanted, well kind of weak with the one floor attachment piece but then I've never had much luck with that attachment. I don't like the fact they really cheapened out on the build quality when it comes to how the lid (grey part) attaches to the base (orange part). I'm used to the older models that clasped onto the base unit. They now just have little flaps of plastic that you bend back and forth to hold the lid on. This kind of worried me when I took it out of the box but I figured I'd try it out. When the vacuum is on the lid is sucked down to the base so no dust comes so it works nicely. Used it for an hour or so getting some dust and cobwebs out of my basement and it worked nicely. However; once I bent down to pick it up to carry it up the stairs so I could go empty it outside the lid shifts a bit and dust flies out between the base and the lid, and since you are bent over it to pick it up you breath it all in. I thought Rigid meant some level of quality so I am really disappointed they cheapened out and got rid of the clasps that keep the lid firmly attached. Had I seen this in the store I might have bought a different model but as Home Depot has them on display on the highest shelf there is no way you can really see this until you take it out of the box at home. Will probably return it once I have time to go back to that Home Depot. Hopefully they don't give me a problem since I've used it.

I was happy with the purchase.. did the research beforehand.. and used my new wet/dry vac 4 times. And then it quit working. The motor just quit... I would not say I am happy about it AT ALL. It was all very light use...didn't even try the wet-vac feature. I had to buy the bags... and now it wont turn on at all.. Any person considering buying a Rigid wet/dry vac should re-think it.. as a consumer I was skeptical..and after reading some of the reviews I went ahead with it. So.. if you are out there and reading this... PASS ON IT. It might look to be RIGID.. but on the inside it is most-likely built with sup-par components. Good luck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Performance Purchased this over a year ago and have have been extremely happy with the performance. It performs the basic clean up after home projects (sawdust, drywall dust...) with ease but also is great for clearing out clogged drains. I have also used it to clean up large water problems (with the wet filter, of course). The only minor issue is that the hose that comes with it is rather large in diameter (which is ok) but it is very akward to maneuver due to relative stiffness. However, the hose that comes with the car kit is flexible and very easy to use. I also purchased the car cleaning kit and it also has exceeded my expectations

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very powerful when it works Very powerful vac when it works. Used this vac about five times totaling about 30 minutes. Then it suddenly just stopped working. Contacted Ridgid and they wanted me to take it a part and take pictures of the vac. They told me it would take about one to two weeks for them to evaluate the pics. Are you kidding me. I'm going back to Craftsman.
