It is a common problem for these batteries to just stop working (both lights on the charger indicating a defective battery). This happened to one of my two and I couldn't send it in for warranty because I didn't fill out the warranty papers (company bought the tools and its easier to buy new than warranty)
I popped the top off the battery and found that the 0 ohm resistor had fried, I just soldered in a piece of wire as a jumper and BOOM the battery charges again.

I love Ridgid tools. And I have had great experience with the 18volt Lithium-Ion batteries. But these little 12v batteries do not work at all. I am tired of sending them in to be replaced. They are too small to start with and make the tools under powered. And they fail quickly. D.O.A.
The larger capacity version of this battery DOES seem to have enough power and seems to hold up. In my opinion Ridgid should discontinue this little battery, substitute the larger battery, and anyone going to the trouble to send in a dead little version should be rewarded with a larger capacity replacement.
I think the quality brand of Ridgid depends on action like this.

I bought into the Ridgid 12 volt system around 2009. I have had problems with failures from minimal use and it's a shame as I really like the 12 Volt drill, but the batteries fail before and after the 3 year warranty. RIDGID needs to DEMAND better quality out of China!! At $50, these should last much longer. I have 2 drills and a flashlight with 5 batteries. I will say that their warranty is at least decent although getting over the counter exchange is hit or miss.

Like other folks here I bought my 12v Rigid drill with these smallish batteries and within only a few months they were totally shot- would not charge at all. What's sad is that even if the drill itself had any quality or value the batteries are so lousy it makes the drill useless!! So, I guess I could tell friends and readers here that the drill is a nice color or that it makes a nice paper weight but otherwise totally useless! I have a Makita drill that is over 20 years ond still works! What's up Rigid????

Less than 5 hours on this battery and it already failed. The charger says it's fine and will charge for a few minutes and indicate full charge but will only last a few seconds before it dies. I own many Rigid tools but this is one I wish I would have never bought.

This battery will run twice as long as the standard 12volt Hyper Lithium-Ion battery that shipped with my RIDGID drill. It's a little more expensive but worth it for the extra time between charges. I purchased a standard 12v battery at the same to have a backup. This is was the third replacement battery and they seem to last about 3 years before they die. It's been a great drill however, and it's much cheaper to replace a battery from time to time than a drill.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by NWDIYer bad battery right out of the box
I bought a 12-volt rigid drill set today. It came with two batteries and one charger. One battery works fine (with fairly short life before needing charging) the other battery simply does not work out of the box. I see now that a replacement will be very expensive. HD will need to improve the quality control of these batteries or they will be getting a lot of returns and their rigid brand will begin to see its good reputation get tarnished.

Finally disgusted with what could have been a good tool to suit my purpose. I through it away and purchased a compact Dewalt. The Ridgid batteries are terrible. A good tool with terrible batteries is a terrible tool. Ridgid customer support and so called lifetime guarantee proved to be as worthless as the tool. My drill had very little use and actually looks brand new.
