It is a common problem for these batteries to just stop working (both lights on the charger indicating a defective battery). This happened to one of my two and I couldn't send it in for warranty because I didn't fill out the warranty papers (company bought the tools and its easier to buy new than warranty)
I popped the top off the battery and found that the 0 ohm resistor had fried, I just soldered in a piece of wire as a jumper and BOOM the battery charges again.

Less than 5 hours on this battery and it already failed. The charger says it's fine and will charge for a few minutes and indicate full charge but will only last a few seconds before it dies. I own many Rigid tools but this is one I wish I would have never bought.

I love Ridgid tools. And I have had great experience with the 18volt Lithium-Ion batteries. But these little 12v batteries do not work at all. I am tired of sending them in to be replaced. They are too small to start with and make the tools under powered. And they fail quickly. D.O.A.
The larger capacity version of this battery DOES seem to have enough power and seems to hold up. In my opinion Ridgid should discontinue this little battery, substitute the larger battery, and anyone going to the trouble to send in a dead little version should be rewarded with a larger capacity replacement.
I think the quality brand of Ridgid depends on action like this.

Finally disgusted with what could have been a good tool to suit my purpose. I through it away and purchased a compact Dewalt. The Ridgid batteries are terrible. A good tool with terrible batteries is a terrible tool. Ridgid customer support and so called lifetime guarantee proved to be as worthless as the tool. My drill had very little use and actually looks brand new.
