When vacuuming does it blow air out the back

When vacuuming, does this blow air out the back? If so, is there a part I can buy like an air diffuser or muffler, not sure what to call it. I just don't want dust being blown all over

Also, is there another smaller vac (like a 4 gal) but has the same high horse power (6). I"m assuming that is the suction

Answer:
yes, the vac has a intake and exhaust port on the vac. So you can either have it suck air in or move the hose to the other port and use the blowing air to clear stuff as well. The blowing function an work good for doing things like cleaning out your computer from all the dust and gunk that collects inside a PC and the PC power supply and/or PC fans.

Yes it does blow air out the back, but remeber, it is going thru the filter inside the unit first! And yes, you can get the "Diffuser" or "Muffler", to help with trying to filter more air, but, it is designed for noise reduction, not air filtration.

It does blow air out the top of the back. I use a RIGID filter with a RIGID dust bag and have not noticed any dust getting blown out. Also, because the exhaust is located on the top of the vacuum, the amount of dust blown around by it is minimal. Just start on one side of the room and work your way to the other.

As far as size and power, there are a variety of models. The car kit can be bought separately and the hose in it has a standard 2 1/2 inch inlet connector so it will fit any other vacuum that has a 2 1/2 inch inlet. But be careful, some of the smaller Ridgid vacuums (and others) have 1 7/8 inch hoses and inlets, so the car kit won't fit those. Read Less

All of our RIDGID® vacs are designed to blow out air in the exhaust port. Air will be drawn into the vacuum through the suction port and exit through the blower port. The debris that has been picked up by the vacuum should be captured by the filter. With the correct filter properly installed, only clean air would be exiting the exhaust.
There are a number of reasons why the vacuum may have dust discharge out of the blower port. Let me give you some of the possible causes and the solutions.
• The most common reason for dust discharge is a clogged filter. Please check the condition of your filter – you may need to either clean or replace your filter.
• The filter plate is missing. – If you have an open-ended filter, please make sure that you have the end cover on top of the filter. This filter plate holds the filter in place and is screwed on by the filter nut.
• The filter has holes or tears. – Make sure that you check for any holes or tears that may cause the debris or the particles to fly out of the filter.
• The filter that you have installed is made for standard dirt pickups. – You might be using the standard VF4000 filter for fine dust pickups. If you are trying to vacuum up fine particles, such as drywall dust or cold ashes, you need to use the VF5000 filter. This 3 layered paper filter is specifically made to filter fine dust and should prevent any dust to shoot out of the blower port.
• The filter is not installed correctly. Please take note that the rubber part that holds the pleats of the filter should touch the lid of your vacuum.
On the other hand, the air diffuser or muffler (part number VT2525) would help diffuse the strength of the air and reduce the noise from the vacuum.

If one of your dogs is a golden retriever you need two shop vacs! haha. Claudia, make sure you get the optional hepa filter for indoor use otherwise you may be blowing dust about your house while you're cleaning. Shop vac should work well but if you have two levels it could be a pain to carry upstairs.

Of couse using a stong shop vac like this with a smaller hose does make it louder than the larger hose (2 1/2 inch). But it's still very usable. just louder since it's still trying ot keep sucking the same amount of air thru a smaller size hose.

The sound pressure (dB level) of the machine likely doesn’t change much, but the tones (low verses high) can change from hose to hose. Most of the high dB noise is created by the machine but, again, each hose and the air rushing through it may create their own separate tones.
Additionally, there have been some instances where a given hose may create a “harmonic whistle.” This noise is normally very high pitched and includes a higher dB reading than the vacuum. This isn’t normal for most hose/vacuum combinations, but there’s something in the way the hose was molded, the way the hose ends are attached, the length of the hose, the diameter of the hose, the why that hose is held or is laying, the way the air is moving through the hose and at what rate that air is moving that all combine to create this “whistle”.
If you’d like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact Travis.Miller@Emerson.com.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I'm now a Ridgid Man I have had nothing but Craftsman Vacs for the last 30 years. Purchased my first Ridgid Vacuum and also my first online purchase from Home Depot. I am extremely pleased with my new Ridgid vacuum and also very pleased with the Home Depot purchase and online experience. I will be doing more business in the future. This is an awesome vacuum and Home Depot ROCKS July 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Shopvac Much better suction than my old shopvac, all the included accessories are nice as well. I would suggest purchasing the collection bags if you plan to use for drywall or other fine particle dust. Assembly took less than five minutes, basically four screws to secure casters. July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Deal It's hard to review something's quality that is brand new since the only test of quality is durability over time, but this unit is a big improvement of my old shop vac. The Rigid is much more quiet than I expected. I chose this unit specifically for the "Auto Detail Kit" which came included but only available for online purchase. The extra length of hose makes vacuuming the car or boat much more convenient. The original hose remains connected to a dust collection system on one of my saws. I'm very pleased so far. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Vac This vac was an upgrade to a 4.5 hp shop vac. The Rigid vac has great pick up power and is slightly quieter than my older lower power vac. The standard attachments all store nicely on the vac with spots for each, as well as hose management, and the power cord wraps nicely around the handle while still allowing the lid to be removed for emptying or changing filters/bags. My vac came with the auto detail kit which has worked very well for my cars. I believe that I get better results with this than the car wash vacs, and I don't have to feed quarters into it! August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Rigid shop-vac I ordered this shop vac online for a great price. The online and customer experience was second to none. The shop vac got here earlier than what they told me. The shop vac was everything that I had hoped for. Getting the car detailing kit was a nice bonus and well worth it. I have used the vac alot since getting it. I would highly recommend getting. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by No brainer over WD1450 for same price No brainer to get this WD1451 over the WD1450 for same price, since this has the auto detail kit (hose/attachments). Since this is online only, go check out the WD1450 in the store and if you like it, order this online:) Cord is long and I can link the smaller diameter auto hose to the main hose with the included adapter to make for an incredibly long range! I will admit it's a big shopvac for my use, but one can never have enough suction power so 6hp it is! If you have the space, this is a must buy. Picked up 2 more attachments which can get pricey, but they know to leave the best ones out, lol. The wide floor sweeping one with brush, and the round angle with brush. Cost more than quarter of this WD1451, so gives you an idea of how important it is to buy the shopvac with the most attachments included. This WD1451 is a great value. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good shopvac Wife ordered for me. Detail kit was great for the vehicles. The smaller hose was much easier to use in the confines of a car. Needed to clean up laundry tub overflow. This worked as expected. Comes with an attachment so you can use car attachments on big hose. August 11, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works great I picked this up on sale and I'm really glad I did. It's very quiet but still powerful. The blower also work well and is s nice feature to have if needed. In hindsight, I could have probably gone with a smaller capacity wet dry vac (i.e. 8 gal) to be more portable (I just didn't know much about it when I was purchasing online).. Overall, this is s solid machine and I'm very satisfied with my purchase. August 9, 2016
