Customer Questions & Answers

can it cut 2x4s?

Asked by: Ricinfl
This saw will definitely cut 2x4's, it is both large enough and has plenty of power. I regularly cut 2x6's.

What does 'Dual Bevel' mean with regards to a miter saw?

Asked by: Hopper
It means the head of the saw can tilt both to the right and the left. Typically saws only bevel one direction.

Why does this say the maximum cut thickness is 3.5in while DEWALT's 10 in Miter Saw lists their maximum at 6in? Is the overall clearance smaller in the RIDGID?
Asked by: JP
I'm looking at the right DEWALT. If you look at the comparison chart or go to the product page, DEWALT lists their cut thickness at 6in. My purpose in asking is exactly because I found this confusing.

What is the fence material made of?

Asked by: DIY
I believe the fence is made of the same material as the cutting service. It looks to me like cast aluminum.

I decided to purchase the Ridgid over the similar-priced 10" yellow one after looking at both in the store. I'm not partial to either brand, as I own a few power tools of each, that all work well. At first, I was really trying to find a reason to get the yellow one - mostly because of brand recognition. The main reasons why I chose the Ridgid saw (in order of importance to me) are: Dual bevel with easy to read gauges (vs. single bevel; and the bevel gauge on the yellow one seems more prone to parallax error); the lifetime warranty, the work clamp, laser and price. The reason why I went with the 10" model is that the sliding types and the 12" ones were heavier and bulky, as portability was an important factor in my decision. After reading some of the reviews and Q&A's, I was concerned that the right bevel wouldn't be able to reach 45 deg. However, the saw that I received does no problem. Simply remove the right fence to allow clearance for the motor, and it reaches 45 and even 48 deg easily. The setup was square out of the box. I didn't need to make any adjustments other than a slight tweak to the laser - which wasn't a big deal. Even without the laser, it’s easy to see where the cut will be once you lower the blade. Within a couple hours after taking it out of the new box, I made a nail polish rack for my daughter which makes her just as pleased as I am!

So I read the reviews and decided to give Ridgid a try after hearing good things about the warranty and quality even though my Dewalt served me well for many years. It started out fine - I did a couple jobs and the saw did fine. Then the engine started sounding weird and had some wood kickout on me because the blade didn't get up to speed. Then the brake stopped working. I brought the saw in to Home Depot - I told them I had registered the saw on the Ridgid website (kind of a hassle but whatever) and submitted the receipt info and everything. Well I threw out the receipt after all that because I thought my product was registered and good to go. Home Depot tells me no receipt, no return. They can look at it and fix it under warranty (I just wanted to return/swap it out). But that store can't do it, I have to drive 20 minutes to a different store (they can ship a .10 screw from a store an hour away to buy but not a $200 saw that needs to be looked at...). I get to the next store, same story. They'll look at it. They call me back a week later and tell me the blade just came loose. I pick it up, they wanted to charge me labor $ for warranty work, I said no way and brought my saw home. Engine still sounds funky and doesn't sound like its hitting full rpms (but the brake is working fine) - have to hold the trigger for a few seconds to get it up to speed. So that's my experience with Ridgid. I would have understood if there was an issue and they took care of it, but not the case. Now I have a saw I don't trust, can't sell, and can't return. Not a great experience.

Have had it a couple months, and it cuts everything I need it to. I am a hobbyist/DIY, not a contractor. This saw was recommended to me by a professional. I chose the 10" for the reason I can swap table saw blades with this beauty. This is a value-packed saw that runs with no issues. Bevels slide and work beautifully, making accurate angled cuts a breeze. Install is a no-brainer, and switching blades is very easy. For me, I had never owned a miter saw so did not know what to expect. The manual is clear and very easy to read and the features on the saw are obvious. I definitely recommend it for any DIYers. I can't find anything I dislike about this saw - the expanded features on the other models might be a draw to go back and buy another saw from Ridgid though!

My previous review of one star was for Ridgid's reaction to my review, not for the saw, which I decided wasn't fair to the tool. The Home Depot website won't allow editing or deleting my own review, which is disappointing. This saw served me well for many years. Home Depot and Rigid have helped me to resolve the problem I was having and that is why I am adding to my original review and giving the saw five stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One of best saws I have ever owned Out of the box this thing is dead on. Only had to adjust the laser a little. Its heavy enough that it doesn't have to be attached to use it. The bevel and miter adjustments are smooth and easy to lock in and release. The only dislike I have is the clamp that comes with it. I wish it had a quick release. That is the only dislike I have.

It worked okay for a few straight cuts but once I started to try and make angled cuts it was impossible to guess where it was going to cut based on the laser. Might as well have not come with a laser. Poor quality and returned after a few uses. The saw worked fine the few times I used it.

Awesome saw. cuts a gazillion angles and you can cut paper thin, so accurate. It has a laser on it but I don't care to use it, can't see it unless you shade it with your hand, that's the only reason I didn't give it a 5 star. But that's not a big deal, I am really happy with my purchase.
