Can the Rigid Tube Cutter model 151 cut mild steel tube that's 1-1/4" O.D. and 11 gauge (1/8") thick?

This question is from 151 Tubing Cutter

My steel tube is 1/8" thick (11 gauge). It's mild steel. I've tried to cut it accurately with a DeWalt chop saw but those things don't provide accurate cuts. They end up about an 1/8" off. I think those 14" cutting disks flex too much. I'm thinking maybe these Rigid tubing cutters might give me better results?

Answer:
1/8” wall thickness is going to be tuff to cut with a tubing cutter. Keep in mind, these are displacement cutters, so the really push the material out of the way, more than cut thru the material.
You would be better off using a Pipe Cutter, like the Model 1A or 202.
Thank you

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ridgid Tubing Cutter I had a really old, but in very great shape Sears Pipe cutter, the cutting wheel was finally getting dull. Think I could one, no way no how. So off the Home Depot and looking for a new cutter. What I liked was the release or quick take up on the cutter. They also store an extra blade screwed into the turning handle. Has a good solid feel and so far has cut all the copper pipe I needed without any issues. HD also sells the replacement cutting wheels, so I may pick up a set and this way years from now I won't have to replace the cutter because I can't find the wheels. May 11, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Too large to use Too long to actually twist around pipe and not hit something. A Ratcheting tool worked better for me. March 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by its rigid it has to be good all my cutters ,pipe wrenchs are ridgid have some other rigid tools as well when you buy ridgid you know you are getting a great product. December 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best in the industry Rigid has the inside track when it comes to tubing cutters - period. They hold up for years and years and offer the best 'overall' pricing in the market - when you consider how long their tools last. Buy it once, and unless you lose it, you will never need another. The fast-acting tubing cutter is so much quicker than using a traditional style tubing cutter. This innovation speeds up tube cutting exponentially when changing sizes of copper pipe. Highly recommend. Awesome product. November 24, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great tool, don't waste your time with other brands I own lots of ridgid tools. When I find something I like, I buy a second one in case they delete the product line. My backup tool is still in the packaging eight years later. Cuts straight and fast. I decided to buy a lennox cutter to do stuff over 2 5/8, complete junk. Lennox sent me another one after the flimsy screw stripped. That one stripped too. Buy ridgid, buy once, and have it for life. November 24, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quick action makes it easy I use this product for work. When i need to make cuts for plumbing this product gives me the ease to do so. I can quickly adjust to different size pipe without having to grab another pair of cutters. The quick action makes it easy. I would definitely recommend this product. November 24, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice improvements, could use a little more You cannot go wrong with the 151 tube cutter. The nice improvement of a larger handle helps out tremendously from fatigue and slippage when turning it to clamp tighter onto the tube.. Would like to see an actual deburring tool integrated onto the cutter. All in all a good, reliable tool. November 24, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The quick action is very useful Very smooth cutting action, and requires little to no maint to continue to feel as good as the day I bought it. I only wish they made a smaller one to keep in my tool bag . Overall great tool November 25, 2014
