In my opinion, this is a good size nail gun for multiple jobs including the base boards and quarter round. There are a great variety of nail sizes in 16 guage. This particular model is very user friendly and simple to use. Good luck!!

My gun is not shooting nails but only air. It does not have a jam. Any ideas?

Asked by: Tom
It's a common problem. Rigid advertises a lifetime warranty on seals and pistons but they only pay the repair shop $20 to fix it. That's why it's hard to find a repair shop. If changing out common parts (O-rings) doesn't fix it, then the dealer has more into than he will get paid. Rigid says 6-12 weeks for repair. I say I need to buy another nailer so I have one on-hand. Not much of a warranty.

Can this go through 2" oak fence boards

I am about to work at a farm putting up new fences/repairing existing. The fences use 2" x 6" x 16' fence boards. Do you all think that this can handle the task?
Asked by: Charlie
sorry to say a finish nailer is not the tool to nail 2X6 fence boards. 2 reasons, (1) the maximum nail length for this nailer is 2.5 inches. your 2x6 is 1.5 inches thick, that means the nail will only engage 1 inch into the post, not enough. (2) the head of a finish nail will not hold an outdoor fence board in place as it tries to warp due to rain and sun conditions. Two options, a hammer and ring shank galvanized nails 3" long, or galvanized screws 3" long (more initial labor but will outlast any other option).

What PSI compressor is needed to run this nailer?

I was going to get a Porter Cable 135 PSI compressor... is that large enough for this nailer?
Asked by: WoofFromTucson
This model works from 70 to 120 psi.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Quality Trim Finishing One of the few tool lines with a lifetime service agreement. Free gaskets and nail shafts for life. I was shocked that this model did not need oil. I have used other models and for the most part this is very similar, but the lifetime service plan, the extra scuff shoe, swivel air connection, the quick change button for single to bump fire are all essential additions. Can handle 3/4 to 2 and 1/2 inch finish nails. The depth adjustments are perfectly set, and even at the highest setting, allows enough dimple to cover the nail head with filler. And no blast of air in your face. All the bells and whistles for this type of tool. Operates from 70 to 120 psi. And as icing on the cake, comes with a zippered storage case.

My 21 year old Porter Cable 16 gauge nailer finally blew out an internal part (new part is on order). However, I needed to do some work before the parts came in for the PC. The Ridgid was the best price and lightest weight option that had a 3/4 - 2 !/2 inch nail range. The one I bought was an obvious returned nailer, no box no safety glasses, partial used nail container, part number hand written on the bag... but that's okay, it worked just fine, I like the way it loads nails (easier than the PC) and the nail depth adjustment is easier to adjust. When my PC part comes in, I'll fix it and give to my brother in law. So at the end of the day, weight, nail range, ease of loading, and easy depth adjustment are all pros. The belt hook is not a need for me and is kind of obtrusive (not removable best I can tell).

Was looking for a new finish nailer and had a few ridgid nailers already decided to give this one a whirl. What an upgrade over the old nailer the dryfire lock out is a very nice feature but since the nails are loaded into a skeletal magazine i never get close to using it now. Oiless is the way to go no oil to clean up on finished work if you don't oil your guns you don't make a mess. This nailer is light quick and hasn't missed a beat on to large trim jobs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Trim Nailer!! A Definite Must HAVE!! This is by far the best finish nailer that I have ever used!! Tons of great features that were not available on older style nail guns. The weight and balance of the tool in your hand is perfect. There is a swivel air connect, belt clip that turns, and the overall weight and feel contribute to a very comfortable tool to be using. Not that any of these are a necessity, they are just awesome benefits to have!! The exhaust port twists nicely to direct air in a direction that is preferred. Unlike other nail guns, this model is oil free which is nice. With some of my older nail guns, it was always difficult finding the eye dropper of oil prior to use. The actual rubber grip is extremely comfortable in your hands!! There are many adjustments that can be made without tools including: exhaust direction, depth, and trigger function. There is plenty of visibility to see how much nails are remaining which avoids dry firinig. (The nail gun has a dry fire protection mechanism which extends life) The nail gun comes with a nice heavy duty carrying case and a small box of trim nails. I would definitely recommend!!!

This is by far one of the easiest, we'll though out nail guns I have ever used. Ridged really thought of everything when building this gun. The depth adjustment is extremely easy to use, and will allow you to sink nails flush with the wood, or deeper if needed. Just turn the adjustment knob to match the picture of desired depth, and your set. This gun will allow you to shoot a single shot, or rapid multiple shots simply by turning the selector switch. What I really like about this gun is that it is (oil free). I always make a mess when trying to add oil in the male fitting, and end up spraying it on the wood if I add to much, but you will not have to add oil to this ever. As for nails jamming, I have not had one problem, but if you did happen to jam one, there is a quick release that will allow you remove it easily. The 16 gauge nails are extremely easy to load, and they even give you a few straps in the kit just to get you started. The case is large and will fit not only the gun, but a few other items such as batteries or extra nails. As for the build, it solid just like every other Ridgid tool I own. It feels great in the hand, and has a giid light weight to it. I love the hanging hook they placed on this, and the air exhaust can be turned to keep the air out of you face once the trigger is pulled. The male air fitting that comes with this is also great at it swivels in a 360 degree motion to help keep the air line from getting in the way. I cannot here any air leaking out of the fitting, and think that this is one of the coolest parts of the gun. I really like this nail gun, and can tell you it's the best I have ever used. If you are into fine wood working, or looking to hang some molding, this is the gun for you. You can find my video review here

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic nail gun This is a great nail gun !! I have already have this same gun that I use quite often. I got a second one so I could have another person using it at the same time like installing base or casing. I love the fact that I don't have to add oil. My other gun I had to oil and I would always forget to add it. Maybe that's why it doesn't work anymore. Other great features are I can see the nails so I know when I'm running low. If it ever jams it has a clip on the top that pops it open real easy to clear the jam. It has settings so I can adjust the depth of the nail depending the type of wood I'm shooting it into. It also has a rubber tip on it so it won't mar the surface. My other one didn't have this and it was leaving dents in the wood. Great nail gun I highly recommend it.
