Per Ridgid Customer Service:
"Thank you for your interest in RIDGID!
We regret to inform you that your vacuum is not designed to have filter bags.
We do not recommend that you use one on the (WD1636) vac since it will interfere with the lid. Also, it would not fill up very much and would not overall be a huge benefit.
Regards,
RIDGID"

No, this model does not appear to accept bags--note the inlet is on the top with the motor assembly. The bags appear to work on models with the inlet on the side of the canister. It does look like you can use higher-performance air filters (3 layer or 5 layer)

Bought new on black Friday and recycled the box. Later found out I would need the package model number to complete the registration. Tried to look on Rigid's website but they do not sell this particular model as it was only for black Friday at home depot.

Look at the back of the motor assembly, near the exhaust port. Mine has a sticker there with the serial and model numbers (see my photo for location on my unit). If not there, check around the motor unit, there should be a sticker with this info (maybe near the power cord).

Hi Lampard813, the one I found was model WD1636, as the Black Friday deal on Home Depot's website.
You can also go into your local Home Depot, and see if they can look up the model number they sold on Black Friday.
Also you can contact RIDGID at 1-800-474-3443. They are on EST.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 231 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by You get what you pay for... Purchased this on Black Friday sale, regretting it ever since 1st use. Extremely, and I mean extremely loud! Also, whenever I vacuum anything, debris (not all but some) will come out the blow port. And this is with a brand new filter. Defeats the purpose of vacuuming to me. After calling customer service, they say it's normal and suppose to blow debris. They suggested I buy a muffler/diffuser for the blow port to keep debris and lower the noise. (And then I read those reviews...) I owned a competitor's vac before, completely different quality - should of stuck with that brand. August 18, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Vacuum Works, attachments incompatible We purchased this vacuum for around $40, black Friday. It came with a small hose and small attachments. I used it to clean up Christmas decorations. The vacuum seems to work fine, the body seems durable, and it has a large capacity. I didn't appreciate the lack of attachments. If you want a wide variety of attachments, you'll have to throw away the hose and all attachments that came with the vacuum, since smaller attachments are not available in the store (see photo). My wife purchased the brush attachment before she saw the size of the substandard hose that comes with this vacuum. December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Vac, Good Value This is a powerful shop vacuum and more than meets my needs. At the Black Friday pricing, it was a no-brainer. That being said, be well-aware that you'll likely need to add the crevice and brush tools as well as a hose extension. Even with those extra expenses, getting a Ridgid shop vacuum (with lifetime warranty) for this price was not a difficult decision. January 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 16 gallon shop vac It's a Powerful vacuum and was surprised on the suction. The only disappointing thing was the attachments. Purchased during the holiday's at a great price but now I need to purchase more attachments. January 5, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by classic example: ya get what ya pay for To flimsy, only one attachment! The only two things that are good about this; low price point...and good suction. December 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very strong, high capacity wet/dry vac with IN/OUT blow ports, hose, two extensions and attachment I saw this item advertised in a pre-Black Friday email from Home Depot. As my dad purchased the smaller 11 gallon Rigid wet/dry vac, I knew this one would perform 100% to my expectations as it has a stronger motor and 5 gallon larger capacity. And for $40 you can't beat the price with the vacuum and accessories that are included for that price! Assembly is really straight forward as all you do is unlatch the top motor section, flip the tub upside down after removing hose inside there, insert wheel mounts to tub bottom and firmly push wheels in their slots until they click into place. Flip tub right side up again and put motor back on and latch closed to tub. Put extensions on wheel mounts and accessory attachment on another of 2 empty wheel mounts. Plug in hose paying attention to locking clip on end of hose and port on vacuum. November 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by chmn very good for my firm. I truly recommend this for all customers to purchase a wet vac. November 26, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Can't use bags!!! Picked up this on Black Friday sale for the price of a low-end shopvac thinking that I was getting a deal. I bought this to cleanup drywall dust and so I picked up some high efficiency bag filters. To my surprise there is no way that a bag filter can fit! Also the proprietary Rigid cartridge filter means I can't use Teflon coated cartridge for shopvac. Returned this thing the next day and bought a shopvac. December 7, 2015
