Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Tano Nice drill, but chuck loosens while drilling
Let me start out by saying I have two of these drills and I do like them alot. But, and there is always a but; on one of them the chuck keeps loosening while I am drilling which is really annoying, plus having the drill bit fall out while I’m on a ladder or working in tall grass adds a level of frustration. On the plus side when using it to drive screws it doesn’t seem to happen too often if at all.
Several reviewers have made the same remarks which prompted me to write this. Because I own two of these and only one does this I had the chance to figure out the difference. The one that stays tight has the Jacobs chuck, the one that loosens does not. The Jacobs chuck actually ratchets when you tighten it and Jacobs has been making chucks for heavy duty metal working machinery for years. I don’t know if the older or newer drill has the Jacobs chuck, or whether they are just made at two different plants, but when you buy one it is worth looking in the box and checking it out before buying it.
Here is the second issue, the clutch settings are pretty much non-existent. I have not noticed any difference when changing the settings on either drill so if you do a lot of work that requires a lighter touch, you ain’t gonna get it from this drill. Personally this has not been an issue for me because I am either drilling holes or driving screws and don’t tend to use the different settings.
If you get the model with the Jacobs chuck you are going to be very happy with this drill. I have built several decks and done countless projects and it is still going strong. It has the led light that is trigger operated which is a nice feature when drilling in a dark corner too.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 good tool, poor battery.
I have had the tool for 10 months. I use it 3 to 4 times a week. After 4 months of use the battery started to fail, (would not hold charge). Rigid replaced the battery's, (took three weeks for replcement). Now after another 4 months of use, same problem.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by kcarl Good quality tool - lifetime warranty a stretch
I've had the drill since Dec. 2011 and used it for a major kitchen remodel. It has plenty of power, battery charges very fast and holds power for a long time, keyless clutch works well. The LED light is nicely aimed and very functional. Part of the reason I purchased Ridgid was for the lifetime warranty, but based on my experience, I have serious doubt about it's worth. I promptly sent in warranty information online, but 4 months later I haven't received any warranty registration acknowledgement. So, in summary, buy it because you like the tool, but don't buy it for the "lifetime warranty"', it's no better than any other tool warranty.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Jeff Worst service ever
I bought the predecessor to this drill (with two batteries) about 4 years ago mainly because of the lifetime warranty including batteries. Everything was fine until the batteries died. I thought it would be like Sears Craftsman (where they just hand you a new tool at the store) and I took the batteries to my local HD. They said I had to contact the manufacturer. Ridgid said I had to register the product within 90 days to get the lifetime warranty even though I had the receipt. So I bought another set with this drill and batteries since it was cheaper than buying the actual batteries, and this time made sure to register it. Shortly the chuck on the new drill broke, but I still had the old drill and used it with the new batteries. Then those batteries died. So I thought ok, now I'll get the drill fixed and the batteries replaced. Forget doing that, you have to take it to one of their contracted "service centers" and the nearest one is nearly two hours away. They don't give an option to ship it back to the manufacturer. At this point I gave up and bought a Bosch drill. I'll never buy another Ridgid power tool.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Wabofiur Drill is fine, batteries are terrible
Drill works well. Plenty of torque and speed for any reasonable non-contractor-type use. The batteries are worthless. After only light use for a few months, and being placed on the charger intermittently during that time (Li-on battery chargers are supposed to maintain and condition the batteries), they would no longer take a charge at all. I've seen plenty of other comments to this effect elsewhere as well.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by richinfort Self Loosening Chuck
This is the second cordless drill/driver I've owned. Both have the same problem. The tool stops so fast, it causes the chuck to loosen, and there goes your drill or screw driver bit on the floor from the top of the ladder. Other than that very annoying problem, very powerful, and charges quickly.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Homeowner28 Mines going in the garbage can....
Purchased for $100 several years ago. Even new run time was poor and got worse and wont run at all now. Trigger switch was intermittent near the end. When it ran the drill was ok but I need something reliable. I found myself grabbing my 15 year old Black and Decker Ni-Cd Firestorm to finish the job.
I got nothing but a stone-wall from RIGID customer service,
I wasn't impressed....I wont buy another RIGID product.
