Customer Questions & Answers

RIDGID 20 Amp T-Blade Adapter

I have a 75 degree refrigerator that needs an adapter to a regular extension power outlet. I found this adapter, but is concerned whether or not this would work with the power outlet. Would this adapter be compatible with any outlet, or would it cause power surges, damage to the refrigerator, etc.
Asked by: Anonymous
Depends on what your unit is rated for. If it requires 20amps, it needs 20 amps, anything less will either trip a breaker, GFI, or cause wear and tear on the unit. The unit I adapted with it was a power conditioner that I knew was not going to be drawing 20 amps and it, (my power conditioner), protects against surges. A standard wall outlet is rated for 15amps. You could loose a lot of food if it shuts off.

My security system won't work in my plug because it's a 15 amp and my wall plug is 20amp can i use this to convert it?

Asked by: Ali
This does not make sense. You are using 'plug' for both ends, so it is confusing. The wall socket is the receptacle; the end of the cord that goes into it is the plug. A 20-ampere receptacle will accept both 15-ampere and 20-ampere type plugs, so if your alarm plug is a standard 15-ampere type, there is absolutely no incompatibility here. It should be working fine. Now if you have a 15-amp receptacle and a 20-amp plug on your alarm, then that might not fit, but I've never seen any sort of alarm system that needed that much current.

my portable heater has 20amp plug, but the vertical and horizontal blades are opposite to any outlet/adapter I've found

Asked by: royal
I am not exactly sure what exactly yours looks like. If just one tab is sideways, then this will work as an adapter for your heater to be able to plug it into a regular outlet. But, remember, a standard outlet is only 15 amps, not 20. If what you have is nothing like you have seen before, then it most likely is also not the type that is used for an electric stove, or dryer. If you do not know what those look like, I would look them up. But, if it is not like either of those, then it is probably a design from a country over seas. If so, then one warning if you try to find an adapter to use. Most, if not all power that is used over seas, is usually 220, not 110, like what is standard in the USA. My opinion would be to do a search on the net, and type in outlet plug designs, or something like that, and then search under the pictures tab, and try to find one that looks like what you need, and then go to that page and see what kind it is, and where it is from, to get a better answer.

will this female portion also accept a standard 15 amp plug (besides a 20 amp t plug)

Asked by: duckman
Yes. The part that has the T side, is made so that you can plug a standard plug in it, or a 20 amp plug with the one flat part being sideways. Overall, the spacing of a 15 and 20 amp plug are the same. The only real difference is the one flat tab is sideways on a 20 amp one.

Customer Reviews

20 Amp T-Blade Adapter is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from T-Blade Adapter Bought a very nice electric pressure washer since I wash my home and sheds every year. Unfortunately, the washer came with a T-blade plug but all of my outside outlets are standard three prong so I could not use my new pressure washer. I could not believe that there were no hardware stores (TSC, Lowes, Home Depot, etc.) that carry this adapter. I had to order it on line at Home Depot and then it shipped to the wrong store two hours from where I live. Had to cancel order and reorder plus pay shipping again. Still waiting for credit on first order. The plug is just what I needed and I used the pressure washer with the adapter on all of my vinyl fencing. Took two full days but it worked well. I ordered two of the adapters to make sure I never have a delay in being able to pressure wash again due to plug issues. It works great but can not understand why Home Depot does not carry this item in stores.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Should be Stock Item in Stores Exactly what I needed for 110v starting of snow blower with recessed electrical prongs. Very difficult to find. I paid more in shipping than cost of plug....this should be a stock item in Home Depot stores.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 15-20 Adapter This is a nice little adapter for quick use of a 20 amp plugged device on a 15 amp circuit. If your device has a 20 amp plug on it and you know it doesn't draw even 15 amps this will be a nice help. Unit is well made and is a nice addition to my electrical kit. I searched the local hardware stores and couldn't find this thing. Then I found one online for $12 from another store, too much for a simple plug adapter. I was glad when I found this adapter at the Depot online. Too bad the local Depot store doesn't carry it. Luckily the shipping wasn't too high. I bought 2.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good product The adapter seems to be well made. It does what it is supposed to do. It is also much cheaper here though other adapters I have seen other places. Great price, good product, nothing to complain about.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect adapter for 20 to 15 It is a good adapter to especially it you don't want to break the wire and put a new plug. That way you can leave it in its original condition.
