RIDGID 20 Amp T-Blade Adapter

This question is from 20 Amp T-Blade Adapter

I have a 75 degree refrigerator that needs an adapter to a regular extension power outlet. I found this adapter, but is concerned whether or not this would work with the power outlet. Would this adapter be compatible with any outlet, or would it cause power surges, damage to the refrigerator, etc.

Answer:
Depends on what your unit is rated for. If it requires 20amps, it needs 20 amps, anything less will either trip a breaker, GFI, or cause wear and tear on the unit. The unit I adapted with it was a power conditioner that I knew was not going to be drawing 20 amps and it, (my power conditioner), protects against surges. A standard wall outlet is rated for 15amps. I know this response is 8 months old, but maybe someone in the future can benefit. This adapter is used to go from a 20 amp T-plug to a normal 15 amp home outlet. Any draw through this must be kept at or below 15 amps. Remember, this is total draw for any circuit. A 15 amp breaker usually supplies more than one outlet, unless it's dedicated and in that case it's usually 20 amps anyway. So, here's what I Read More

Any draw through this must be kept at or below 15 amps. Remember, this is total draw for any circuit. A 15 amp breaker usually supplies more than one outlet, unless it's dedicated and in that case it's usually 20 amps anyway. So, here's what I use this adapter for, I have a 50 foot 10 gauge extension cord with a T-plug end. When I'm on the job and there's no 20 amp plug, I use this adapter. I make sure whatever tool I'm using doesn't exceed 15 amps (preferably 13 amps) and there are no other high draw items on this circuit.
As a side note; Home Depot usually doesn't stock this item in their stores, but they do stock a 30 amp to 15 amp adapter. Go figure!

Answer:
You are able to use the adapter but we suggest that you connect it into a 20 amp outlet. Refrigerators are very high energy users and you should only utilize the selected outlet for the refrigerator only and not plug any other electrical items into the outlet as this could overload the circuit and cause the breaker to trip.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good product The adapter seems to be well made. It does what it is supposed to do. It is also much cheaper here though other adapters I have seen other places. Great price, good product, nothing to complain about. January 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by T-Blade Adapter Bought a very nice electric pressure washer since I wash my home and sheds every year. Unfortunately, the washer came with a T-blade plug but all of my outside outlets are standard three prong so I could not use my new pressure washer. I could not believe that there were no hardware stores (TSC, Lowes, Home Depot, etc.) that carry this adapter. I had to order it on line at Home Depot and then it shipped to the wrong store two hours from where I live. Had to cancel order and reorder plus pay shipping again. Still waiting for credit on first order. The plug is just what I needed and I used the pressure washer with the adapter on all of my vinyl fencing. Took two full days but it worked well. I ordered two of the adapters to make sure I never have a delay in being able to pressure wash again due to plug issues. It works great but can not understand why Home Depot does not carry this item in stores. October 14, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Did the job The adaptor was very easy to install and very compact for my tight situation. December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by perfect adapter for 20 to 15 It is a good adapter to especially it you don't want to break the wire and put a new plug. That way you can leave it in its original condition. December 8, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by 20 AMP T-BLADE ADAPTER It will adapt the plug for a 15amp circuit but by the time you add the adapter to your 20amp plug, and plug it into an outlet you pretty much have to find a way to support an assembly that sticks out of the wall about 4 inches. I ended up changing the power chord with a right angle plug which worked better. I will keep it around for a quick fix if I need one. April 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Should be Stock Item in Stores Exactly what I needed for 110v starting of snow blower with recessed electrical prongs. Very difficult to find. I paid more in shipping than cost of plug....this should be a stock item in Home Depot stores. December 12, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 15-20 Adapter This is a nice little adapter for quick use of a 20 amp plugged device on a 15 amp circuit. If your device has a 20 amp plug on it and you know it doesn't draw even 15 amps this will be a nice help. Unit is well made and is a nice addition to my electrical kit. I searched the local hardware stores and couldn't find this thing. Then I found one online for $12 from another store, too much for a simple plug adapter. I was glad when I found this adapter at the Depot online. Too bad the local Depot store doesn't carry it. Luckily the shipping wasn't too high. I bought 2. August 11, 2010
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Product as described. Great product. Home Depot was the only store that I found that carried this product. October 9, 2014
