can I connect two 12 gauge 50 foot extension cords together to supply power to a tool

reeling up 100 feet is a pain thought maby 2. 50 footers would be easier

To: 'neal' - Re:{use of two @ 50' instead of (1) @ 100'?} Try to watch an Electrician-on-the-job for the manner in which they always 'LOOP' long lengths of extension cords! ....very effective as well as quick! NEVER a good concept to utilize 100' of (12Ga) ...."IF" the need is of that great-a-distance, lots better to go to a { 10 Ga } cord, to minimize the appreciable Voltage Drop!....eli2

Will this cord run an electric heater for an RV

Asked by: Gerryh1
To: 'Gerryh1' - Re:{ will this cord run Heater in RV?} Be very cautious, please? - - -read that Data Plate of the Heater. "IF" it does require only 15 amps on a 120 volt Circuit, then, this 12/3 @ 25 feet cord will do fine, assuming that zero other ITEMs are operated.....eli2

Can this extension cord be used in a wet location where it may occasionally sit in water.

I am using this product on a sailboat
Asked by: MAKS
There is nothing special about the ends that would protect against moisture, so keep that in mind. However if just the cord part is going to be exposed to some water I wouldn't hesitate there. The sheathe is really heavy duty so I wouldn't imagine there would be any issues.

Would this be better to use with a 7 amp angle grinder than a 14/3 cord?

I was thinking that the grinder wouldn't really need that thicker gauge. But I don't know if that's how it works.

25 ft. 12/3 SJTW Extension Cord with Lighted Plug is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought this to power a 13 amp electric snow... I bought this to power a 13 amp electric snow blower. It worked perfectly. The cold didn't cause it to become too stiff to manage either. I especially like the way the plug lights up. Since blowing fuses is easy with this type of tool, it's nice to be able to know right away you have power.

The off-brand 16 awg I'm using right now is about 15 years old and will probably do it all over again as they're so easy to fix. Notwithstanding, I needed a thicker gauge. Honestly, I don't need a little light to tell me when the wire is hot. It strikes me as a gimmick that will break long before the cord would naturally expire. I found the $40 US Wire & Cable equivalent on this website and will be returning this disturbingly expensive Rigid one to the store so I can put that $50 savings towards a new tool to plug it in to. They're both SJTW, UL listed, and were probably made in the same factory. It even notes "distributed by Rigid" on a tag. Rigid is okay but the name doesn't command a 125% markup. I probably would have let 5% slide.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Flexible and High Quality Extension Cord It’s past time to replace my old, frayed and undersized extension cords. I bought a Ridgid 25 Ft 12 Gauge Extension Cord a few years ago and have been very satisfied with its performance, so I decided on a new Ridgid 100 Ft 12 Gauge Extension Cord with Lighted Plug. This is a contractor grade cord and is rated for 15 Amps. It also stays flexible from -58 to 167 degrees Fahrenheit and uses three 12 gauge copper stranded wires. The lighted plug is a nice feature that is very handy at night. \ As a general rule, an extension cord should be as short as possible to avoid excessive voltage drop under load. This Ridgid 100 Ft 12 Gauge Extension Cord is the perfect solution for using power tools, shop vacuums and other high power consumption devices at a long distance from the power source. Highly Recommended!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what I want I have a 100ft. cord, and it was just getting to be a problem, when all I really only need was a smaller cord. This one has done the trick.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect for yard work This power cord uses 12 gauge wire - which is heavy enough to drive a 15 Amp device. If you use a lighter cable you may be overloading the cable resulting in lower being available to the appliance. We use this for powering our electric lawnmower and it works perfectly for that purpose. The appliance end socket has a small light in it to show you when the cable is energized. This is really useful when you are 100' away from the wall socket and you need to know if the power is on or not. It is a grounded cable as you would expect and is a full 100' long (I measured it!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flexible and Heavy Duty This is a heavy-duty extension cord. You can tell it’s higher quality than cheaper cords just by picking it up – it’s much heavier than its cheaper counterparts and its rubber insulation feels more robust. Despite its sturdy construction, it’s still very flexible and easy to coil. It works great for powering shop vacs, lawn equipment and power tools. The lighted plug is also a nice feature. If you are regularly powering devices with high power consumption, you can’t go wrong with this cord!
