I am a wellsite geologist, i used this vac as part of my sample drying system, to dry drill cuttings. The vac usually runs about 20 hours/day, anywhere from 1 to 20 days in a row. The unit sits outside in the some pretty nasty conditions, -50°C to 30°C, covered in ice & snow, drenched by rain. I have never changed the filter, never done any sort of maintenance to it, and it died with the same hose that it came with.
It died on April 20, 2014...it was a sad day.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Allanmancave Great power and portability
I purchased this product for its portability and light weight. It has exceeded my expectations as it has incredible suction. I mainly use it for small jobs including dry wall duct clean up. I use the optional dust bag but found there was little room for the bag and filter. I have remedied this by removing the filter when using the bags and shrouding the filter cage with a fine filter cloth sleeve. This combination works like a charm and no drywall dust escapes the vacuum. As I mainly do plaster repair I have attached a shoulder strap on the handle and am able to sand and collect the dust,as it falls. Ridgid offers a great selection of accessories for this product. I have several Ridgid vacuum cleaners and this is my go to for drywall dust.

I was looking for a small portable vacuum. I have a larger Ridgid 4.25 - 16 gal shop vacuum that I bought about 14 years ago. That baby will still suck the chrome off a Buick bumper. But I was getting tired of hauling 20' of hose for a small job. Hence my quest for a small portable vacuum. Over the years I had come to expect little from portable vacuums. They were terrible for sucking power. Well let me tell you that this little fella is absolutely the best. Small, portable and this little guy will suck the chrome off any bumper. I ended up looking at three Ridgid portables, this was the smallest of the trade name and I do not regret buying this vacuum and I would recommend this vacuum to anyone......you will not regret it.

This vac is outstanding! I went to Home Depot looking for the DeWalt 18v hand-held ($169) and came across this little wonder. I am absolutely blown away! For the price point, this is an excellent vacuum. Suction is almost too powerful, it's light easy to maneuver, the hose is well made and extremely flexible, with a great reach. My only complaint is that it's a little top heavy, and it tips over every now and then with vigorous use. Other than that I'm extremely satisfied with this vac - perfect for the car and handy to have in the garage. For the price, this is one of the best purchases I've made in quite some time. Definitely recommend!

I liked this one overall, nice build quality. For vacuums, Rigid does seem better-built that most of the SV junk I see. Anyway I actually bought this one twice, but both times it ended up returned.
As others state, it's too loud, though not as bad as some I've heard. The 'coil spring' hose, while keeping it compact, is overall annoying because you have to constantly apply force to keep it extended. And what about if you want to put it down for a second as you're using it? Not convenient.
I wish more thought was put into product design in general. A tall design like this, unless it's for a purpose that isn't clear, makes no sense because as everyone says, it tips. Irritating. It will take up less floor space however, which is probably the intention. Not worth it tho.
The side latches actually present a dangerous pinch point. If you pressed your finger or hand into the thin groove beside the latch and then pulled up the latch...well I don't know what would happen because I'm not gonna try it! Again, foolish design.
Lastly, the huge sized filter in a vacuum this size is a bit ridiculous. It appears to take up about 50% or more of the volume. I don't imagine this having much useful capacity for anything other than dust.
All this makes it sound like a bad unit. But like all reviews, it depends a lot on the user. I'm thinking 90% of people are going to use it and not notice anything wrong. Other people are more picky. :)
