It's sleek and narrow like not many others out there, really a handy and nimble design. Sign up for the Lifetime Warrany too! Doesn't include a case and finding one to fit is somewhat of a small challenge. The plug light is a cool feature too. You can keep looking and looking and pricing and comparing and always end up with a plus here with that brand or a negative with that other brand, it's a good quality item, just get it! Ha!

I purchased this sander while I wait for parts to fix my beloved Bosch 1274 DVS, (discontinued, why?). I live in Hawaii and was not able to purchase this product even online. I had to get my sister to purchase it for me online in PA. Even my cousin in CA couldn't purchase this sander but I like the specs and it has a lifetime service contract that they will honor here in Hawaii, but you must purchase the sander through the Home Depot. I've been remodeling homes for 25 years and I can tell you this is the most powerful and smoothest 3x21 belt sander I've ever used, I really like it. Now here are the negatives. 1. I just completed my first project with it, a set of stairs. All the wood had to be milled and sanded so it was a fair amount of work but my Bosch did half the work before the toothed sprocket wore out. Now I already I have to replace the timing belt (drive belt) on this sander. I can't believe it wore out so quickly, I hope this isn't a constant problem with the tool. 2. I thought the top of the sander was flat so that I could use it upside down on my workbench, but it is slightly domed, so close to a perfect design but no, fail. 3. The dust collection is great when it's hooked up to my shop vac but without a vacuum, the air vent for the motor blows right in your face. I guess engineers do their best to think of everything before production but they blew it, so to speak, on this one. Now it's in production and I guess it's too expensive to do a redesign so soon. Maybe that's why it's so cheap. It's obviously a heavy duty sander and I suspect it will last me for the rest of my life.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by EGinCA Great sander
I've used this sander on several projects needing heavy stock removal. Removing damaged/old veneers is fast and effiicient with few or no grooves as long as you do not rush. Removing old stain is a snap. It has plenty of power and a very useful speed range to adjust to your work piece. The dust collection is good but the vacuum attachment is much more efficient. The tool has never overheated, and the motor and moving parts have never clogged with either dust collection method. A great deal with the free 1/4 sheet sander. I would buy this tool again without the free sheet sander, which also works very well.

Overall I am happy with this until it stopped working. I did not fill out the appropriate stuff online to get the lifetime warranty. After a year of owning and using the sander, I opened up the sander and to my surprise there was the motor covered in dust. I understand that the bag fills up and I empty it but I never would have thought there would have been so much in the motor itself. I was disappointed to find it needless to say.
I give it three stars due to the fact that I do like the soft start and variable speed and if it does offer the lifetime warranty I will feel it out in time on the next one.

This is a real nice belt sander and the price was great. A popular magazine reviewed some belt sanders and said that the only thing stopping this one from getting a five star rating was not having variable speed. Well these new ones do. I first tried it out on an old chopping block that was probably as old as I am and was coming apart due to glue failure. I was able to pry all the pieces apart without damaging the wood but the dried up glue needed to be removed and I was amazed at how easily this new belt sander got down to fresh wood. I have bought a number of Ridgid brand tools over the years and I think I'm going to be as happy with this new belt sander as I am with my other Ridgid tools.

I'm a remodeler contractor and I think this is the best sander for the money you can buy in this category.Plenty of power and stable sanding. The variable speed is goodish. Made with pre set speed steps A to F (used letters instead of numbers) and the trigger is basically a glorified on-off switch in that speed range you pre set it. Speed is fairly stable. The machine is heavy ,something is good in this case because it's own weight keeps it against the board. All you have to do guide it around.Front Track roller is adjustable in order for the belt to keep it's track. A bonus feature cheaper sanders don't have .I wish the trigger would give variable speed as you pull it in the preset speed but ,hey then would be a perfect sander

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by JoeO Tool is OK - Warranty not worth the hassle.
The price of the tool was a little higher than similar brands, but the prospect of a lifetime warranty seemed to make it worthwhile. Unfortunately, after spending about 30 minutes on the computer trying to activate the warranty and jumping through all their hoops, I received a letter stating they could not confirm the information and provided a whole new set of demands for copies, proof of purchase, etc. Sure wasn't worth my time to complete. Should have just gone with the Black & Decker.
