Answer:
Dave,
This grinder is a single spd. It does have a locking mechanism on the side that allows you to grind without holding the trigger down, but the minute you hit that trigger...your grinding wheel is moving at 10,000rpm.
Hope this helps,
Deebo

I do not know if this grinder is made in America. I doubt it, because if someone in America made this grinder they would put a huge red white and blue on it. I wish it was. As a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. I wish it was, however, this is a grinder to be proud of no matter who made it.

Plumber,
I haven't personally heard anything in regards to a recall on this particular product. That doesn't mean it hasn't been recalled though. As far as the tape measurer, i would say your best chance would be to contact Rigid customer service at (1 888 743-4333). they may be able to help you find answers to both questions a bit faster!
Hope this helps,

Answer:
Not sure on why the grinders are pulled. If you registered your tape with RIGID online, then you need to contact them to find a place to repair/replace it. If you didn't register the product and it's less than three years old then you are in luck and still contact RIGID. If you did not register the tape and its over 3 years old then you are out of luck.

As for your tape measure you would need to send it to the factory service center for repair or replacement. Please call customer service at #888-743-4333 for a return authorization number and the address of where to send it.

Id like to know why the most ergonomic grinder Rigid made has been taken off the shelves at Home Depot? It was very easy on the hands to use and really powered through tough jobs. Id like to buy another one but they don't sell them elsewhere.

4-1/2 in. Angle Grinder is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 45.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Some nice features, bad execution I generally find Ridgid tools to be a good compromise between quality and price. This grinder is a disappointment. While the size and location of the grip allow for ergonomic use, the trigger is impossible to use with one hand in some orientations. The trigger is difficult to use (especially lock button) and it is prone to jamming when grinding dusty material (even with air cleaning after each use). The small diameter handle is convenient, but in some orientations very hot air is blown out the vents directly on to my hand. So, hot than I have to stop grinding. It would be nice for the design engineers to take some field time with their products before putting them out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best grinder I have ever used This grinder works just as good as the rest in the pile. I have makita's, dewalts and a few other Rigid versions. What makes this one stand out is the grip. WOW, this is by far the easiest grinder to hold on to and control that I have ever used. And I use them alot. I have about 20 hours of use out of this and am very satisfied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wish I'd bought one of these a long time ago I've only used it a couple of times to cut nails from salvaged hardwood flooring. I also used it cut off roofing nails from the eaves to run flexible bathroom fan vent pipes. Worked like a charm. The slim handle makes it comfortable to hold. The other brands I looked at all had much larger diameter handles that will be uncomfortable to use for an extended period. My only complaint so far is that the tool is very long but that is the case with most of the angle grinders. It was not easy getting it intoe the 8" eaves. Also, the trigger lock\release mechanism could be a little smoother to engage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lifetime Warranty/ 3 years if not registered I teach high school welding classes, so needless to say my tools get put through the ringer. I bought 4 of these initially. 1 didn't last one day, and I took it in to get it replaced. The others seem to be handling ok, but sound kind of sketchy at times. My Students seem to like how it fits in their hands, but if you are bigger and have large hands this is pretty cramped together. I bought them for the warranty. If you buy through Home Depot and send in all the information, RIGID will issue a lifetime warranty, and in my line of work I don't have the money to replace and fix grinders all the time. So in all they are a little cheaply made, but if they are willing to back it up then it's worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tool This grinder has the best balance of any that I have used. Less slip off and more control. Less wrist fatigue. The grip makes all the difference. Cord seems to stay out of the way better. Look forward to may years of hard use and well.... abuse. I'm sure it will take it, it is a Rigid.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Grinder! 95 % of my tools are Ridgid and I love them which is why I went with Ridgid when I needed a new angle grinder. Unfortunately, this particular product is garbage! Sure it works and I like the design but it vibrates your hands so bad I can't stand to use it for more than a minute at a time. I have had it for over a year and have been forced to use another brand of grinder every time I have needed one. I now have posted the thing for sale in order to replace it with a better grinder. Probably why the grinder is now discontinued..... I would love to see Ridgid make it right for such a dedicated Ridgid user.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice looking, if you can take the heat. I bought this unit to grind out seats on sculpted wooden chairs I build. It is very light, and easy to hold but you can not run it for more than a minute or so. It gets so hot it burns your hands. If you have really small child size hands, you may be okay with it. My hands are a little bigger than average size and I could not hold it due to the heat from the motor. I took it back the following day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ridgid 4.5 in Grinder A delight to use. Well balanced, ergonomic, one handed use. This grinder is very compact and powerful.
