Customer Questions & Answers

Is there any type of adapter to connect the VT2570 Universal Hose with this 4 gal vacuum?

Don't like the original supplied hose, used this orange universal hose with a large canister vac and it was so much easier to use!! I am surprised that it's not standard equipment with all Ridgid vacuums.

• The VT2570 hose can be connected to the WD4070. The customer needs to use 2 adapters from the VT2570 to make it work on the 4 gal vac. The black locking clip adapter to lock the hose the vac and the 1-7/8” swivel end adapter on the other end so that the accessories can be connected to the hose

The VF3700 Wet Filter is not listed on your site?

The VF3700 Wet Filter is listed in the 4070’s information above, but your site shows no such product. The VF7000 Wet Filter is too big for this vacuum. The Mullti Fit Foam Sleeve VF2001 is too small to fit around the paper filters and too big to fit on the vac’s filter “carrier” itself. ??

I haven't tried the wet filter for my vacuum. Have you tried going directly to the manufacturer's site for the filter?

How to remove the filter

Asked by: Gil
Hi Gil. Below are the steps to remove the filter. Removal and Installation When Using the Qwik Lock™ Stud Filter Removal: 1. Hold the filter tabs of the Qwik Lock™ filter in each hand. 2. With one thumb on the Qwik Lock™ stud, which protrudes through the integrated filter plate, lift up on the filter tabs while pushing down on the stud. 3. This action will cause the filter to release from the filter cage. Slide filter off cage. Also here is the link for the instruction manual

I have been using my unit mainly for cleaning up kitty litter that gets on the floor right around the litter boxes. I am using the fine dust filter VF3500. There is a lot of fine dust accumulating inside the canister. The collection bag does not seem to seal as tight as it should because there is fine dust accumulating around where the bag attaches to the unit. I changed the bag but I am still having the issue. I have been noticing a lot of fine dust in the room and am wondering if this is coming from the unit when I vaccuum. Is it normal to see the dust inside the canister? What can I do to resolve this issue?
Asked by: SusanC
With most shop vacs dust will accumulate inside the tub and dust will blow out the exhaust. The best way to stop dust blowing out the exhaust is to run a hose from exhaust to the outside, you would need a spare hose to do this. Shop vacs don't make the best vacs for in the house.

Customer Reviews

4 gal. 5.0-Peak HP Portable Wet Dry Vac is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 791.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Could be much better 5 months ago I purchased the RIDGID 4 Gallon 5.0 peak HP shop vac after reading all the positive reviews. I buy tons of great products from H. Depot but this is NOT one of them. Here's Why: *The kit hose is extremely stiff cheap plastic which makes the vacuum unwieldy. *The stiff hose protrudes straight out the side making the storage footprint much larger. (Unless you disassemble the main hose every time when not in use...) *The included wand attachments are also cheap & clunky which makes getting a good air seal between surface and wand a frustrating experience. --- I admit there are a few positive aspects worth mentioning: *Price is great compared to competition. *Actual suction force can be very good (but inconsistent). --- It's rare that I buy a product that frustrates me EVERY time I use it. The RIDGID vacuum consistently succeeds. Since I don't want to disassemble the vacuum after every use...It's difficult to find a convenient "spot" for it to live. The RIDGID gets kicked & shuffled around the garage on a daily basis. I plan to replace this shop vac very soon.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent value I purchased this unit for the dirty work in my small shop. I was going to go with a larger unit but after seeing the demo models I went with the 4070. It is easy to move around and stow. The 1-7/8" hose is large enough for my purposes and easier to handle than larger hose. It is light enough to carry but heavy enough to drag on the floor and remain stable. I purchased bags for it as well so it will be a snap to convert to wet applications. I also have a high end dust extractor that is super convenient (and pricey) so I didn't give this vac an excellent performance rating. However, I am extremely pleased with this vac.

On the positive side, I appreciate the compact size and power it provides. It's form factor is great because it is something you can easily carry with one hand and makes it more likely to be taken out and used. On the negative side, I wish they offered this vacuum with the 2 1/2"diameter hose (this one has a 1 7/8" diameter hose). A 2 1/2" diameter hose is much better for picking up construction debris without frequently clogging on the small jobsites I use it for. However, to purchase a a RIDGID vac with the larger diameter hose, you have to move up to a 12 gallon bucket size, which isn't necessary at all on jobsites that are cleaned up at the end of each day (or multiple times per day).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The on/off switch failed after 1yr of homeowner use and HD will not exchange for a new unit. Disappointed. I purchased this unit about 1.5 years ago and used it lightly every couple of months for small tasks. A very handy compact unit. Today, the unit failed on me during a job without any indication. I diagnosed the cause of the failure to a defective on/off switch, which was confirmed by a very helpful & knowledgeable HD tool rental employee, Dana @ Miamisburg #3857. He also informed me that there have been several other units returned to the store for defective on/off switches. Taking into account the unit has a "lifetime warranty" and a store employee confirmed the switch was defective. I expected HD to simply exchange the unit for a new one and send me on my way. Unfortunately, this was not the case. I was informed by the CSR's at Miamisburg #3857 that the unit must be sent to the manufacturer for repair or replacement. After lengthy debates with the CSR's regarding my interpretation of "lifetime warranty," a store manager came over to hear my story and took guilt , eventually sending me on my way with a new unit. A substandard unit prone to failure - Disappointing 45 minutes of my time spent convincing HD to honor the warranty of said unit - Insulting

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for small jobs ! 4-gal. 5.0-Peak HP Wet Dry Vac. This product is light weight, powerful, low profile and easy to use. I actually turned the motor on( with no attachments connected) and the force of the air discharging propelled the unit across the concrete. The vacuum hose is long enough for most most jobs...if not it's light enough to lift into the cab of a vehicle or bed of a truck. The filter extends fairly deep into the tank, so don't expect to get 4 gallons of liquid. The filter is smaller than those of higher capacity water vacs and will need to be cleaned more frequently than those with 5 or 10 gal capacities. It's always a trade-off; Big vacs for big jobs and small vacs for small jobs. The attachment holder and long cord are quite convenient as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful and Portable! I bought this as I needed a smaller vacuum then my larger shop vac as often I'll just take my car to a site where I need less tools for a small repair. I was worried I wouldn't get the same power and despite being rated less, this little guy does a great job cleaning up. It comes with a few accessories and a hose. The power cord is extremely long and makes it versatile throughout a job site. And like I said earlier, it's smaller so it could fit in the trunk of your car and be put away in a smaller space. Good quality and worth every penny.

Worked well until it didn't..... after very light use, the motor started to smell as if it were burning. When I called the company, they informed me I had to mail it to them in St. Louis to determine the problem. Seriously? I can't imagine how much it would cost to mail this beast. And they don't guarantee I'll get a replacement. Maybe I just got a lemon, but I won't be buying from Ridgid again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Portable Wet/Dry Vac It's a great vac with lots of suction. It's small enough to carry around from job to job. The height of this vac is listed wrong. It is listed as 14.5" but is actually more like 16" without the extension tube stored which would make it even taller. Rigid Web site lists it as 16.75" You can use any of the 2.5 inch hoses and attachments. The hose that is sent has a built in reducer on the end. The hose that comes with it, is a bit stiff as some of the other reviews have said. There is a place to store all of the attachments, power cord, and even the hose. The pictures never show the hose stored. Maybe because it's not the greatest storage of the hose. According to the instructions, you wrap the hose in a loop twice and connect the two ends together then wrap in the same location as the electric cord. The problem is that the hose is made so cheap that it will collapse and kink if it's rolled that tight. So I do almost the same thing but just don't connect the two ends so that the loop is not as tight as to start kinking.
