Yes, of course you can vac up water with this vac, but remove the internal filter first before picking up water. The internal filter is for dry vacing only.

I would recommend you remove any bag or paper filter inside the vac then just use as normal. empty water and leave the vacuum open so it dries before you reassemble.

I believe you can leave the filter in place... but best would be be to pull the blue filter off and get a we filter for the unit. Then just suck up the water!

Answer:
I have not used it for rugs but expect it would be just fine, The suction power is strong. It does not have a "beater brush" so it's really intended for loose debris. It would be quite good at getting some extra water out of the carpet after wet/"steam" cleaning. Be sure to clean the hose well before touching it to carpet.

I would use a typical vacuum clean to do that job. Rugs have grains, and texture. Therefore, The typical vacuum works better. This vac is better suited for industrial usage.

Unclip the top from the bottom of the vac. Remove the paper filter (this is located on the top half of the vac under the motor). You are ready to go. Remember to replace the filter once the inside of the vac is dry.

The vac works very well for picking up water from surfaces. Remove the filter first, however. Empty the vac before sucking up liquids. The liquid capacity is only about 1.5 gallons - NOT 4 gallons.

Answer:
Only a limited amount, but it does have the suction power to do it. You want a taller vacuum with a deeper tank for best water pickup of any volume. No vacuum will actually dry out the carpet, only pickup the water easily sucked off the top. The moisture that soaks into the carpet will need a continuous flow of dry air to dry out of the carpet.

FYI: To remove the filter - press the center rubber piece ("button") that protrudes from the filter. It will pop off pretty easily. (Good design.) Vac works best if one knocks the dust from the filter frequently. Do not use the filter with liquids. Read Less

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 676 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Portable Wet/Dry Vac It's a great vac with lots of suction. It's small enough to carry around from job to job. The height of this vac is listed wrong. It is listed as 14.5" but is actually more like 16" without the extension tube stored which would make it even taller. Rigid Web site lists it as 16.75" You can use any of the 2.5 inch hoses and attachments. The hose that is sent has a built in reducer on the end. The hose that comes with it, is a bit stiff as some of the other reviews have said. There is a place to store all of the attachments, power cord, and even the hose. The pictures never show the hose stored. Maybe because it's not the greatest storage of the hose. According to the instructions, you wrap the hose in a loop twice and connect the two ends together then wrap in the same location as the electric cord. The problem is that the hose is made so cheap that it will collapse and kink if it's rolled that tight. So I do almost the same thing but just don't connect the two ends so that the loop is not as tight as to start kinking. May 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by daily best vacuum easy carrying , quiet, good for maintenance perfect cleaner September 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by surprised My old shop-vac died over a year ago. Wow has this product changed. Better suction and all around better features. Everything is easily kept on-board so no more missing parts. Much more stable on its wheels, no tipping over! August 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GREAT VACUUM A tradesman had one of these when doing work at my home. I was so impressed that I went to Home Depot and purchased one. It does a way better job than the $450.00 Miele that it replaced. Only complaint is that it lacks a few accessories straight out of the box. I got purchased separately a vacuum bag and a attachment to do floors. All in all not bad for under $100.00 for everything. I really gives this product a very high rating. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better than expected. Very easy to use. The suction is very good and it does a great job cleaning up. September 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect size and lots of power! This Vac has lots of power. I like the fact that it has a small tank with a 5hp motor. It rolls good and does NOT tip over every time you pull on the hose like other brands tend to do. Would have been nice if it came with a bristle brush. I have used it a couple hours and have zero complaints. August 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Vac We work in the Hearth industry and use this vac for chimney cleans and ash clean up. Have not noticed any ash getting through the filter and out the exhaust port. We clean the filter often which is not a difficult process, just a few minutes each time. I love rigid vacs and plan on buying another one. August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This Shopvac Sucks I have owned a few shopvacs. This one cost $80. Do not buy a cheaper one. They are near useless. I love this one. Lightweight and powerful. Easy to empty and clean filter. I do not plan to use it for water. Uses are garage, patio, and truck cleaning. Powerful; it just kills my regular house vac. August 16, 2016
