My vac did have a manual inside the vac. (I had the same concern when I first received it.) It's about 5x7 and 8 or 10 pages. FYI: To remove the filter - press the center rubber piece ("button") that protrudes from the filter. It will pop off pretty easily. (Good design.) Vac works best if one knocks the dust from the filter frequently. Do not use the filter with liquids. Read Less

Pretty simple. There is a plastic handle on each side....lift up from underneath to release...then lift off top to empty. Snap down handles into place to secure it. Good luck.

I would recommend you remove any bag or paper filter inside the vac then just use as normal. empty water and leave the vacuum open so it dries before you reassemble.

I believe you can leave the filter in place... but best would be be to pull the blue filter off and get a we filter for the unit. Then just suck up the water!

Answer:
I have not used it for rugs but expect it would be just fine, The suction power is strong. It does not have a "beater brush" so it's really intended for loose debris. It would be quite good at getting some extra water out of the carpet after wet/"steam" cleaning. Be sure to clean the hose well before touching it to carpet.

I would use a typical vacuum clean to do that job. Rugs have grains, and texture. Therefore, The typical vacuum works better. This vac is better suited for industrial usage.

Unclip the top from the bottom of the vac. Remove the paper filter (this is located on the top half of the vac under the motor). You are ready to go. Remember to replace the filter once the inside of the vac is dry.

Sorry I couldn't answer the question earlier. I have been in a 2 day training session. To answer the question, this vac is about as noisy as any other it size. The best thing you get from it is it's suction ability. For the money, I say it' the best you'll buy. Also, I did not realize it was a blower. My yard vac broke. So, I'll be using it to blow off my driveway.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 624 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Portable Wet/Dry Vac It's a great vac with lots of suction. It's small enough to carry around from job to job. The height of this vac is listed wrong. It is listed as 14.5" but is actually more like 16" without the extension tube stored which would make it even taller. Rigid Web site lists it as 16.75" You can use any of the 2.5 inch hoses and attachments. The hose that is sent has a built in reducer on the end. The hose that comes with it, is a bit stiff as some of the other reviews have said. There is a place to store all of the attachments, power cord, and even the hose. The pictures never show the hose stored. Maybe because it's not the greatest storage of the hose. According to the instructions, you wrap the hose in a loop twice and connect the two ends together then wrap in the same location as the electric cord. The problem is that the hose is made so cheap that it will collapse and kink if it's rolled that tight. So I do almost the same thing but just don't connect the two ends so that the loop is not as tight as to start kinking. May 18, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Handy! I needed to replace my old shop vac went it decided to quit in the middle of a job. I headed to HD and found this one for a decent price and the best part is I was able to find a hose extension attachment so I can reach my whole job site without having to move the vacuum all around. It was easy to set up and use. The only down fall about it is that the hose attachment to suck in tight cracks etc doesn't stay attached to the hose very well and I am constantly having to push it back down to secure. If they made it so the attachments had the buckle like it does to connect to the vacuum itself I don't think there would be any problems with it falling off. Other than that it is great...way better than the old shop vac I had! April 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great vacuum This vacuum is small, but just as powerful as the bigger 16 gallon versions. Easier to move around and transport. If you don't need the bigger capacity, I would recommend this vacuum. May 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great vacuum! I needed a shop vac and decided to try out this smaller vac. Power is great from this unit. I have bought another for back up since May 17, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by I buy 6 vacumms like this and only 3 are working I buy 6 vacuums like this and I have 3 down, suddenly stop working. the other 3 are fine. good suction and blow. I need replacement but I don't know how. May 2, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Stiff Hose and Expensive Bags Recommended with these caveats: 1) The hose is so stiff that it interferes with storage; it can't be wound around the vacuum body for storage; it makes a big loop that takes up a lot of space. The stiff hose also makes it less convenient to use. 2) Check the cost of the bags before buying; it costs $6 each time you empty this vacuum. The bags are essential in a wood shop; if not used, the filter clogs up quickly, and is very messy to unclog. (Are all brands of bags this high-priced now?) I sewed a cloth bag, using half of a king pillow case and a 7-inch zipper. The hardest part is connecting the bag to the vacuum cleaner; my first attempt leaks. June 17, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great vacum I have the biggest shop vacuum that Rigid makes and have had it since 2007 and never had a problem with but I remodel a lot of bathrooms and I needed something smaller. I was a little reluctant to buy this vacuum because of the price but I new it would be a good vac and it was the perfect size. After using the vac I was really impressed with it's power I really didn't expect it to be that good. I wish it had a couple different attachments that would fit this vacuum and also a vac silencer to quiet it down but other than that this vacuum is great. April 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great purchase - reasonable does the job well for such a small unit reasonably priced; quality made, light weight. A small unit but with great vacuum suction. A bit too loud. I'm purchasing a noise reducer. I would recommend it to anyone who can use a versatile, quality machine. thanks April 22, 2016
