I've used name brand orbital sanders and am happy they have found a new home after using this sander. Although the switch may be a little awkward to turn on and off, this sander did everything I want in a sander. The soft start motor gives you sufficient time to get your grip on the sander and go to work. The dust collection bag with the sander is about as good as it gets without going to a hose and vac. Very little dust was remaining after changing through 100, 150 and 220 grits of paper. If I was operating a business requiring orbital sanders, this would be the sander everyone would be using.

This is the second-smoothest running sander I've ever used next to my Festool, which cost me $200. I can't speak to the longevity as I just purchased it but it blows my old PC out of the water. I've read some negative comments about the power switch and vacuum hose hitting the work surface. Honestly, one shouldn't use a 2 1/2" vacuum hose in the first place. Too much vacuum actually makes the sander fight you. The smaller hoses clear the work surface easily, and I've never had a single problem with the power switch. So far it has been a great sander for me.

Today was the day I finally bought a random orbital sander.
I had planned to get the Bosch but my store did not have any.
After looking at what was on the shelf it came down to the Ridgid or the Milwaukee.
I liked the power switch on the Milwaukee better but I liked the simple dust bag and $20 less price tag of the Ridgid better.
Picked up 100-150-& 220 grit pads and headed home to sand some cherry I am building domes boxes out of.
The closest tool I have to compare this too is an old Makita 1/4 sheet sander, the Ridgid random orbital is much smoother and quieter. The 1/4 sheet sander wears me out but this one is real easy to control and it doesn't shake my hands to death.
The dust collection of the sander going into the cloth bag works better than I expected, very satisfied with that.
The soft start feature is very nice.
One of the selling points was the variable speed, after using it once the speed control will most likely live on max, if I had bought a single speed tool with soft start I would like it just as well.
The sander works very well.
I dislike the power switch even more than I thought I would, turning it on is not a problem but turning it off requires using both hands for me.
I will have to ponder the power switch a little bit, I used the tool and its functioning as designed so I don't know if returning it is really fair to Home Depot....that off switch is really annoying though so play with the display model a good bit before you purchase.
Other than that one complaint the tool operates smooth and quiet, the dust collection works well, soft start is great, and it is variable speed.

Best sander of this type - variable speed, good dust collection with the bag and can also take a 2 1/4 inch hose or a smaller one. Quiet relatively and comfortable in the hand. Excellent product.

Like it. After My PC finally died, I looked at all in the price range averaging 65.00. This one so far is better in some ways than my old PC. Yea the switch is a little different but guys should not under rate for the things they do. It's a fairly priced tool with a life time warranty. I like mine and hope it lasts a long time. For now I'll be fair about the great performance and service so far. To complain about the pad wearing out reminds me of a renter, that expected me to buy and physically replace his light bulbs. All sanders have pads that can wear out. Especially if the tool isn't used properly. I have a Fein sander and if you "hot spot" it, it will ruin the pad. Abrasive sanders generate heat and if you don't keep the sander moving while in use and keep it off the corners and edges with pressure , it will damage the pad. Also if you push your sander hard, you should change the sand paper a little more often. Buy a belt sander (with no pad) if you want to remove lots of material quickly. These ROS are made for a little more than finish sanding.
