This generator ran like a top and still starts no problem. I've had less than 100 hours on it over the past 5 years. Stored inside and carefully maintained. Recently I took it out to use with my power tools. Started right up but no power. I brought it to a registered Ridgid service center where they informed me it needed a new generator head assembly! That was bad enough but then the generator head assembly is obsolete and no longer available! So now I have a $1,000 metal brick that cost me an arm and a leg per hour to use! Ridgid has not offered any help toward the purchase of a new generator. I'm done with them. I'll spring for a Honda that costs twice as much but at least I can count on it. Maybe Ridgid has improved on the generator head with the new model but how can you trust them? What will happen in 5 years? It blows my mind that they no longer have the main part that makes a generator a generator!

Got this about three years ago after about 12 hours of use the regulator went hay wire and the thing wouldn't put out so I made a call to the home depot where they told me they'd have to send it to Atlanta Ga. to have it checked at the repair center , I did Not like that at all. I also didn't like home depot at the time couldn't supply me with the service location phone number where I could keep tabs on the repair process but I managed to fine it with out their help AT ALL, Just didn't seem right spending that kind of money and rely on their word alone anyway I got it figured out. When the unit was repaired they called me to come pick it up after about a week and a half, I had to look at my unit's numbers to match it up to be sure I got mine back because it was so dusty and several tags on it, so after I got it home I put fuel in and tested it out while it was operating after about 15 min's the engine shut off so I restarted it and after a few min's it again shut off then I checked the little filter and it had apparent dirt in it. I then cleaned the filter drained the fuel from the line into a large clear clean jar and dirt wan in the tank but after I cleaned the tank and filter then went to town for a new oil change just in case dust got in the oil. After my cleaning and oil change the unit functions as it is apparently designed. When the storm(s) and heavy rain fall come here in Louisiana the utility power was gone for about a week and this unit pulled it's weight very well. So far we've used it around eight times ranging from 4 hours to running days at a time just stop to refuel and check oil and no problems. My biggest problem was with the apparent unclean sloppy conditions at the repair location because home depot can't repair these even tho they charge you like 18 dollars to check em out but they can't do that it's just a charge they do but you get that back when you pick up the machine after it's been repaired. Other than that with having to clean up my unit and servicing it out it's been working very well. I use a treatment to counter act the harmful effects of the gas they make / sell these days and wouldn't run it without the treatment or the real gas if you can find it because I can hear and see the benefits of proper fuel treatment. Oh I used the so called stable fuel for storage and it ran bad so I don't use that type stuff, had to drain that stuff out and put and used Lucas E-10 E-15 E-85 FLEX FUEL ETHANOL fuel conditioners with stabilizers it works great and don't gum it up.

I got an amazing 28 hours out of the generator before the problems began. Idle control issue and the materials used for the gas tank and fuel cap are pure trash. Properly used fuel condensation preventive additives and the tank completely rusted after 3 months. It gets better, after I resolved the rusty tank by the end of the year the gas cap itself had rusted to the point it fell apart in pieces. Found several forums explaining the less than desirable cheap gas tank used. So currently attempting to find replacement parts and check the Rigid site or aftermarket and no sells a tank or the gas cap because of the know issue. Wasted $1000.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Prepared Great purchase
Purchased two years ago after moving into a all electric house in an area that's notorious for extended power outages, also wired in a transfer switch at the same time. First year we never lost power and every time I looked at it all I could see was a $1000 paper weight. Second year of ownership we've had a number of extend outages since October putting 83 trouble free hours on it, It's powered my entire house (High efficiency green home) including a mini split heat pump, hot water heater and stove although I wouldn't recommend the stove and hot water heater at the same time. The generator is stored indoors and operates in an open but covered area and haven't noticed any rust or oxidization that other reviewers have mentioned. Overall this is a great product!

I have had this generator for a few years now. Starts every time almost instantly. I do however take better care than most people would. I only use ethanol free fuel as ethanol is horrible on gasoline engines and renders stabilizer useless, I stabilize the fuel, when storing I drain the carb, and I put a battery tender on the battery once every few months. I noticed some of the reviews say you cant get parts for these and all I can say is a quick web search and you can buy every nut and bolt on the thing.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by HeyOldMan RIDGID Genset Standing Hurricane Alert
Starts first time - every time (rope or battery), instructions (package) clear and accurate, 'Idle-down' keeps noise level comfortable, controls simple and convenient to operate, carries 6-7K with no problem (will handle anything I have to put on it), compact - weight well balanced - easy to move around, convenient to service.. . . and good looking, too. I'm running it wired direct to home main frame (30 amp) and using it for public utiities back-up (hurricanes). As a test (unintentionally), I ran the RIDGID Genset four hours (local power was actually off) washing two motor vehicles, which required use of a 1hp-220 pump as well as an electric power washer (+ 3 refrigerators, a freezer, and misc fans, lights, etc.), without a problem.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Harold Well engineered and manufactured
Generator, Yamaha engine (China) and control panel seem to be well engineered and quality manufactured. Control panel is full featured showing voltage, power, cycles per sec, hours. Idle down is great engine feature. Engine speed (CPS) is adjustable as well as idle speed although this is not advertised or shown in the manual. Engine cranks and runs smoothly. Electric start works well. Frame is well made and sturdy, good wheels. Unit is fairly noisy but no problem for running outside with distant neighbors. Review written with about 12 hours on unit including test loads.
