Refinishing bar tops for a local coffee establishment. I need to get the entire job done in 5 hours. Sanding to topcoat. This sander not only speeds up the process. The airguard tech is nice. I hook a vacuum up to it and I don't even need a dust mask. It is also nicer on my body.

This 6 inch random orbital sander has power to spare for my sanding needs. I'm working on refinishing a large cedar deck, and this does the trick quite well. The vacume port is a plus and should be used as the bag will fill up very fast with the power and speed of this product. My only complaint is that the auto lock button is in a bad place as its too easy to accidentally hit it and power the unit down. I have become accustom to it however by watching where I place my hands while using this sander.
Otherwise, an excellent product...and with a lifetime warranty on repairs, it's a no brainer.

This is a bit long , but I felt you didn't look here for a comment like, " I just bought it today and it looks great."
I have owned this sander for over a year now. I read the reviews and saw it was close to 50/50 on likes and dislikes at the time. I am restoring a 60 year old rust bucket. I needed to take it down to bare metal and did not have a strong compressor for an air driven DA sander and I'm not having it sand blasted. The sander has worked great for me. I did what some of the online recommendations said and let the sander do the work. It does the job well. I noticed that as the sanding disks started wearing out , I began tilting the sander more on the edge to get better sanding. The problem with that is, it heats up the hook and loop pad which wears it out. I also had to be careful when the sanding pad hit a piece of metal that wasn't smooth. It tears the edges of the disk and exposes the attachment pad. Again this wears out the pad so the disks wouldn't stick along the edge, which ended up being fine because the sanding pads are stiff and still attach in the center and hold fine. I have successfully stripped my car and sanded some wood projects as well. The 1/8 and 1/4 sanding rates are great. It's fairly quiet, compared to cheaper brands. The weight is good for sanding, just heavy when you are doing sanding overhead, after awhile.
I have not had to send anything back for repairs. It has been dropped and I put, down force pressure on it at times. It's been holding up well. You can't beat a lifetime warranty anyway. The slow start is only a pain if you are in a hurry. The slow start is nice because it allows you to maintain control and if you are doing finish work, it won't cause sudden extra sanding in one spot. It only takes a couple seconds to get up to speed. Not a big deal. There is a lock to keep it on so you don't have to hold the button. I hooked it up to a vacuum. It seems to be about 90 percent effective. If you sand anywhere but a flat surface, like going over an edge or rounded projects, some dust escapes. Good product. I would recommend. REMEMBER TO REGISTER FOR THE WARRANTY.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Wetankles Rigid's own midsized vacuum hose does not fit on it!
How is it possible for a company to design the vacuum hose end for two different size hoses and the smaller one does not fit their own brand of shop vacs?
We've had two blow out in less than a year and since Homedepot does not carry the replacement pads you have to send away for them - you also have to send away for most of the 6 hole sanding discs as well.
We have actually gone back to AIR tools - and also Fesstool - just Waaaaaaaay better.

I wrote a bad review before on this sander and was contacted by the company that stood behind their sander and sent me a new one with apologies. The older sander was sent back for studies on how to improve their product. Working to better a product seems like a company that wants only the best for their customers. Just saying,,,

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by NeverUseRigidAgain DO NOT BUY
Returning the 3rd one I had due to breaking within a 3 month period. First one stopped working, second one the velcro for sanding pads stopped holding the pad on after 3 or 4 uses and now this one, the pad that holds the sanding pad on ripped off after 3 or 4 uses. It is only being used to sand deck rails to prep for staining. Costing me time and aggravation to return/replace multiple times. Biggest pile of dung out there DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by JNB Build Quality Has Dropped Tremendously on This Product.
I've owned several (5 or 6) of these sanders. The earlier builds were of good quality and provided a very nice finish for several years of regular use. I recommended the sander highly to several people and they were happy owners. However, the last 2 sanders I purchased became very noisy and the pad would rock after just a few hours of finish-sanding raw wood.
There is a bearing at the top of the drive shaft that gets sloppy. This leads to the sander leaving swirls in the finish, because the orbital action is not maintained on a plane parallel to the surface being sanded.
When this model was introduced I was satisfied with the quality and performance, but I won't purchase this sander again. It was a bargain at the previous price, which was around $129 when the build quality was higher. It's an absolute waste of money now at $114.
