I upgraded from an older Ridgid drill to the new hammer drill, but it's a bit heavier and came with the 4AH battery. I wanted a lighter drill with the 2AH batteries, and this fit the bill. Still plenty of power, but much lighter between the battery and drill. I often use these for assembly and the lighter weight is great along with still using 18V batteries so Everything I have is interchangeable. That's why I didn't want to go to the 12v units.

essential for the homeowner/diyer
I honestly thought I would dislike the second trigger for the light, but it doesn't bother me at all in fact I use it a lot. With weak eye sight I don't bend over to get a better look I hit the button and then start driving screws.
The battery indicator light is amazing I never worry about not having power and the charge is less than 30mins.
This is not a masonry drill by any means, but for a few holes it will do it, and no worries with a second battery.
Powerful, comfortable, free battery replacement, affordable, reliable...no brainer

This is a great tool, I've been using mine for a while now and have done a fair bit of work with it and I've really come to like the features such as the LED battery life indicator and the second grip trigger for the tool led light.
It's easy to adjust the clutch and it's a real bit saver for sure.
I've used this tool to drive 2" and 3.5" screws for days one end with out any issues. It's comfortable to hold and the weight is pretty good for an 18v tool. A+

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by IceFisher Great warranty
This seems to work as well as a "popular brand" drill I used, except the Ridgid had an issue of shutting itself off if overstressed. I used both the "popular brand" and this unit it to drill 6" holes in ice for icefishing at the same time. The "popular brand" drilled through without a problem, but when I applied a lot of pressure, the Ridgid would shut off and I had to release the trigger and press again to get it to run. Maybe a safety feature the Ridgid has that the "popular brand" doesn't--I don't know. When I didn't force the drill, I had no problem. I doubt it would do the same when used for typical applications where less torque is applied. It has worked fine for any screws I've used it for.
I would like it to have come with larger capacity batteries, but having come with 2 lighter, smaller batteries isn't bad. I really like the LED charge indicator on the batteries and the charger.
Can't beat the warranty, the primary reason I purchased this over the other "popular brand."

The lifetime battery replacement is a joke. After having the batteries replaced once they went bad again. When requesting replacements again I was asked to provide original proof of purchase. Proof of purchase had already been sent otherwise I could not have gotten replacement the fist time.

Just got the Rigid a few months ago...already have done several projects and it's worked great. Main reason for going with Rigid is the lifetime warranty, particularly on the batteries. Batteries charge very quickly (~20 min) and last a long time when drilling small holes/driving screws. Put this thing to the test drilling through 8.5" of PT lumber with a 1/2" spade bit - I was impressed by how well it powered through, but the batteries overheated quickly and I ended up only getting two holes bored and countersunk before having to change batteries. That task is better left to a high-torque corded drill anyway. Belt clip and work light are two features that I didn't even care about, but I fell in love with both of them rather quickly.

Ive been in maintenance for the past 12+years, Ive used and owned about all of them. This is by far the BEST one I have used, you cant beat the features, the light comes on when you hold the drill instead of waiting till your drilling, (little late then), compact, good balance and feel, plenty of power, and its a RIDGID...This one is replacing a 6mth old PC, and yes you have to register on line and mail that in with the UPC from the box, but come on, its for LIFETIME......how much better can that get...or buy one of the "others", then start buying battery's then see which one is more of a hassle... I give it 10 stars.........

My husband hesitated adding a cordless drill to his tool arsenal. I bought this for him at Christmas. I felt it would come in handy when our new kitchen cabinets came, seeing he was installing them. He loves it. He loves the amount of power it has, the quick charging of the battery, and that it came with a Lifetime warranty and extra battery. No down time when his battery dies, just pop in the spare. It seemed a little pricey, but when you look at the quality and everything you get for your money, it is a bargain :)
