Why would i buy this attachment over buying a separate cordless jig saw (corded or cordless)

The Ridgid corded and cordless jig saws are about $100. The Ryobi Lime Green jig saw is about $60. It just seems like the separate tool would be better than this attachment. I currently own a set of Ridgid products and a job max. I also have lithium drill Ryobi set. So batteries are not the issue. I just want the better product that will give me the best results at a sub $100 price point. I am not a pro.

Answer:
Cutting 3/4" plywood with the attachment is a lot of work. A corded saw performs much better.
But if you typically work with thinner materials and lots of curves, the attachment is a very valuable tool. I prefer it because the JobMax handle is small and very easy to control. It's also very comfortable to work with for long periods of time. I like its lower profile too.

It does the job well without requiring a separate jig saw, plus you have the main body for other very well designed attachments.

Answer:
Thank you for contacting RIDGID.
The JobMax jigsaw attachment head would be bought in order to add that cutting capability to your JobMax multi-tool system. Whether or not to buy that attachment verses a standard jigsaw, would be something the you would need to decide on based on the items and capabilities you want in your tool collection.

Just attach it to a Jobmax console and it becomes an easy to use, hand held jigsaw that cuts perfectly. It comes with 1 blade, Tool-free blade clamp, and is compatible with T-shank and U-shank blades. I used it to cut/rip laminate floor planks where I needed to cut around floor vents and around the fireplace bricks. Much easier than breaking out my corded jigsaw that's bulkier to use and having to be near an outlet. Also, does not use a lot of battery power, so I can use it longer and longer. It was not carried at the store, so I ordered it online and had it shipped to my house for free. Excellent condition when it arrived. Love that it comes with the LSA as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool I got this for small jobs to be portable and still do a professional job and coupled with the other interchangeable heads it is awesome. Dont expect tge strength of a stand alone tool and expect to go a little slower it shouldn't be put in a bind but you can carry six different tools to a job with the weight of about two skill saws. The jig saw works extremely well and had a quick change blade system that makes it fast and easy to use any blade you need and change in between parts of your job like metal cutting to paneling and then large wood in only seconds I have had to cut 2x4 metal pipe and moulding and its worked without any problems. I have read before buying that the 12v system is a little underpowered but I can't testify to that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Loved this tool. Paired it with my Ryobi JobPlus multi tool base. Made my first chair seat. Pop it off and attach the sander and you have yourself a finished product. Easy to use, store and change blades if needed. Good weight and balance and perfect for home projects and personally I have no plans of buying a stand alone jigsaw.

It is simple to set up and operate. The only detractor is the overall length once assembled limits it use in tight spaces.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not well suited for battery powered jobmax handle. The jigsaw consumes so much power that it basically runs the battery down ~three times faster than I can charge a 18v battery. Batteries are <12 old with light use. Nifty concept and all but I returned it and bought a dedicated (corded) jigsaw (for only ~$10 more than this attachment.) It did seem to work fine otherwise., It is Just not well matched with a cordless device. Ridgid really should somehow recommend this attachment be use with the corded handle only or risk more dissatisfied customers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Jobmax and Jobmax Jig Saw head I have had the Ridgid 12v system and all the Jobmax heads for several months. I have managed to find an application for almost all the pieces. I love the 12v lineup from RIDGID, especially the Jobmax! A few small issues I have the jig saw head are it cannot bevel as some jig saws do, there is no place to put a fence, and why is there a safety switch? I guess to prevent it from tearing up your tool bag if the main switch is pushed or worse a young person picking up this tool. This jigsaw head is not as balanced, powerful or adjustable as a dedicated jigsaw. However that's the beauty of the Jobmax it seems to not do one particular thing exceptionally well but it is versitile and does many things well. I used the jig saw head yesterday to cut 1/4in off of a countertop and it went ok. The jobmax sometimes would bind up and shut off at the handle. So I would back it out and start again. No big deal. After I used the jig saw head I came back and cleaned up with the oscillating head, wide wood blade, and sanding attachment. Very happy with RIDGID. By the way Lifetime Service Agreement rocks!
