Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by billy Worthless on cutting black gas pipe
I bought this pipe cutter in preparation of running a gas line off my furnace, to my laundry dryer. First of all, this thing wouldn't cut the black pipe at all. I ended up using a sawzall and that barely worked, but I was able to get the pipes cut. I have a harbor freight threader, and that was not effective either.
Regardless, this pipe cutter is not worth it to me.

This was my first experience with these cutters. I used them on PVC tubing and they worked beautifully. Clean cut. Easy to use. I definitely recommend. They're great for the price too! At other companies around town, they can get up to $30-70+ .

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by willrob27 Great for what is supposed to be used for.
This is supposed to be used for tubing that is rubber/vinyl or PEX.
Pipe cutter may be bad name for the product, but use some common sense. Why not try to cut copper PIPE with it, or Black iron PIPE. Just because it is a PIPE cutter doesn't mean all types of PIPE??? This is definitely not for Schedule 40 PVC PIPE???? Anyone using this tool for that purpose shouldn't be doing those types of projects.
A ratcheting cutter (like Model 50500) or a pvc saw (like Model 50522) is used for sch40, not this tool.
I have used this many times for 3/4" PEX, 1/2" PEX, rubber tubing and vinyl tubing and it works great!
Remember, there are right and wrong uses for every tool ;D

This product clearly states that it will cut PVC pipe. As another reviewer said, it should be called a tubing cutter. While it can get through SCH 40 PVC, it requires rotating the pipe (as per the instructions) and is nothing like the ratchet cutters. I'm sure it has no problem with PEX, hose, or vinyl tube. I thought being a Ridgid brand that it would be good even if it looked unconventional. I was in for a big disappointment, and took it back. Even as a tubing cutter it is not as good as the pliers type with the pointed blade. Give this one a pass.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by marty48 Won't cut straight, blade dulls quickly
This tool is a waste of your money. The blade dulls quickly after about 40 cuts, of ordinary Sched 40 3/4" white PVC in my case, and Home Depot doesn't sell the replacement blades! The Home Depot clerk agreed they don't sell the blades and it gets dull quickly. As hard as you might try, the pipe always is cut crooked due to the blade twisting as you start the cut. HD will however refund your money when the blade gets dull if you ask.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Verified Reviewer Cutting tool served its purpose, but...
I used this tool to cut 1", 3/4", and 1/2" PEX tubing and 3/4" CPVC pipe. Cuts were square if the tool was rotated while cutting. The tool itself doesn't feel very durable, though, and Home Depot doesn't carry replacement blades. If you want a tool for the occasional cut, this one is sufficient.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by kmdennis Hacksaw worked just as well
Purchased to cut a length of PVC that was at the top of the limits of the tool. It was miserable to use. I ended up using a hacksaw and it worked just as well. This tool was the most expensive thing for the job (tool, pipe, glue) and used the least.
