Questions & Answers

what about sand, grit or mud in the water?

I vacuum out my garage in winter. Sand and grit in the slush collect in the bottom of the vac over time. If sand gets into the pump, can I at least clear it out or is the pump ruined?
Asked by: jimh
There is a strainer so any large material will get caught in the strainer. Find silt and sand will be pumped out with the water.

Can the pump be used without the vac? Debris in water?

Can this pump be used independent the vacuum unit? What I am looking for is a pump that I can use to clean debris out of my koi pond. i.e. removing leafs and dying algae.
Asked by: TPS123
You can with a little tinkering, female thread of the pump's quick connect is an ISP 1" thread. I don't recommend using the pump in debris applications. It's to cheap it will break.

Can this be used on other shop vac's or only exclusivly on a Ridgid Shop Vac?

Asked by: GreaseMonkey3393
To the best of my knowledge this can only be used on ridgid vacs. If the drain spout is the same thread then it will work that is all that maters when it comes to the attachment of this product

Vacuum and discharge rate.

Will this pump discharge water while vacuuming? If so will it keep up with the volume of water the vacuum picks up?
Asked by: DHEDRICK
No it will vacuum the water until the container is full, first you need to have the right filter for vacuuming water, then when it is full, empty the container

Quick Connect Pump Accessory for RIDGID Wet Dry Vacs is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 86.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Every homeowner with a basement should own one As many homeowners know, the presence of water in the basement is a terrible experience. Compound that with a basement that isn't a walkout and it becomes a real nightmare getting the water out. Having a wet/dry vac is very helpful, right up until you need to carry 16 gallons of water up the stairs! Not a trivial task! Enter the Rigid quick connect pump! This little add on for a Rigid wet/dry vac was a life saver during a recent storm. We were in the midst of getting our basement repaired and a storm rolled through and dropped over 5" of rain in a short time. If I had been left with only the option of carrying the full container up the stairs and outside, I would have fallen way behind the inflow of water. Fortunately, this little pump was able to pump the full container up and out the window in the basement in about a minute! Because of this little pump I was able to keep the seepage of water in the unfinished part of the basement and away from the carpet and drywall. If you don't have one.... Get one... By the time you need it, it could be too late!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I had bought one of these about 3 years ago.... I had bought one of these about 3 years ago. I dropped it and broke it. I really liked having this to use. So I went to Home Depot and purchased another one. When I got home I opened the box which it looked like it was retaped because it was previously opened but anyhow I pulled it out of the box and this one was broke, put back in the box and resold to me. I could not believe that this was put back on the shelf in the condition that it was in. Someone obviously purchased this item prior to me and returned it to the store with pieces missing and broken and it was just put back out for sale by customer service! I returned the item telling the associate the condition of what I bought and she agreed with me that it should have never been back on the shelf. If I ever buy anything from Home Depot again I will make sure I open the item in the store before leaving to ensure is was not previously used.

The write-up never says it cannot be operated while the vac is running. So each time the vac fills up you have to shut it off, then turn on the pump, then turn off the pump, then turn on the vac Shop Vac has a line with built-in pumps so you just turn it on and the pump removes the water from the tank as you go. Also, to tighten the hose enough for it to work, the on/off adapter also turns. Try to get the hose off and the adapter unwinds with it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Better than nothing The threads on the connector with shut off valve would not accept the hose properly and I had to buy a replacement. It takes a while to completely empty the vac. This should have been built into the vac. The vac is too heavy to lift when filled with water in order to empty if you are using it indoors in a basement. So i didn't really have an alternative to buyimg one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from External pumps I am familiar with the VP2000 pump. That is why I bought two of them to use with both WD14501 wet and dry vac's.. These pumps I guarantee are high end pumps. They will pump 14 gallons from the vac in 1 1/2 minutes. They are also very durable and well constructed. They are worth every penny I paid for them

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why did I just discover this? Once in a while you find that jewel to add to your arsenal that makes life easier. This was it for me. Working in a basement pressure washing floors is difficult with putting water everywhere. To just vac and then push a button to get rid of the water made life so much easier.

This pump along with my Ridgid shop vac made short work of draining all of the water from the spa. No more having to drag my vac over to a drain, just run a hose and let the pump do it's thing.

Basement flooded and I am now too old to be picking the shop vac up to empty it. I didn't have a Rigid shop vac, mine is a different brand, but the pump fit and I was able to get my job of pumping out the water done.
